Dark clouds rolled in, staining the sky like thick ink. Within the leaden clouds, lightning streaked through like silver snakes, as if a torrential downpour was about to fall. The air was frozen in silence, without a breath of wind, as if even the flow of water had stagnated.
Dozens of young boys and girls in linen clothes walked on the rugged mountain road. They kept their heads down and hurried on, as if there was a flood or a beast behind them, and they didn't even dare to look back.
"Hurry up! It's almost time!"
"Only two quarters left."
Such voices were heard everywhere in the team. These young children were so anxious that sweat covered their faces. They kept speeding up their pace to try to cross the mountain road. However, it seemed that the mountain road would never end and they could never see the end.
Surrounded by towering cliffs, there was only a narrow path through the broken cliffs for the children to walk on. Soon, many girls collapsed from exhaustion, but many more gritted their teeth and struggled to move forward.
“Boom—”
A bolt of lightning, as thick as a water jar, struck the mountain road ahead of the group, carving a deep crater in the ground. Thunder roared louder and louder in the sky, and the flashing lightning illuminated the sky and earth, causing the tall young man at the front to tremble with fear.
"I'm not going! I'm not going! I'll die if the thunder strikes!"
"I'm not going either. I don't want to cultivate anymore. I don't want to join Mount Taihua. I want to end the trial!"
"I want to end the trial too!"
As soon as the words "End Trial" were spoken, those people would glow with silver light and quickly disappear from the mountain road. The others would then rush forward to continue their own trials.
Taihua Mountain, the premier sect in the world of cultivation, opens its gates every ten years to accept trials from children under fifteen years old. By passing three trials, these ordinary children gain entry to Taihua Mountain, and even ascend to the highest heavens, becoming the most revered immortals in the hearts of mortals.
Of the three trials at Mount Taihua, the first two were harmless, but the final "Thunder Road" saw children die in every session. These lightning bolts were real, and with these children's mortal bodies, any strike would surely kill them. Furthermore, there was a time limit for walking this "Thunder Road," and if they exceeded the time limit, they would not have passed the trial.
With only a quarter of an hour left, there were only thirty-one children left on Thunder Road.
They were still more than a mile away from the finish line, but the thunder in the sky was getting more and more fierce. Every time it struck, it shook the sky and the earth, and seemed to be able to split a mountain.
A little girl in the middle of the team turned pale with fear and said timidly, "Brother Chen, should we give up? This thunder will kill people..."
Walking in front of her was a boy who looked about fourteen years old. After hearing this, the boy turned his head and looked at the girl.
The young man wasn't particularly handsome, but he was quite attractive. His eyes gleamed with shrewdness as he looked at the little girl with a strange expression. Finally, he suddenly laughed, "Sister, you're too timid. Don't worry, we can both become immortals. Just hold my hand and walk forward."
The little girl wanted to say something else, but seeing the boy's determined eyes, she had to swallow her words.
In a flash, just as they continued to walk forward, a thick bolt of lightning rumbled down, striking the boy directly. The girl trembled with fear, but somehow she mustered up all her courage and suddenly stretched out her hands to block the boy, shouting, "Brother Chen, be careful!"
The lightning was only ten meters away from the girl, but she didn't see it. The young man she was protecting raised his lips slightly, revealing an expression of expectation. His eyes were full of pride and anticipation, as if he had suppressed something that was about to stir.
However, just as the lightning was about to strike the girl, a green sword light broke through the air!
The sharp sword energy collided with the fierce lightning, stirring up silver sparks. The sword light was cold and merciless, piercing through the thunder. The blue sword light spread out with great power, shocking all the children on the mountain road and falling backwards. The lightning disappeared in an instant.
All thirty-one people widened their eyes and looked in horror at the person who suddenly appeared in mid-air.
Between the thousands of feet high cliffs and broken walls, there was an immortal in white clothes with wide sleeves standing in the midst of countless lightning and thunder, looking down indifferently at the group of trial-takers who were slumped on the ground.
He had phoenix eyes, long eyebrows, a prominent nose, and thin lips. His narrow eyes lifted slightly, then slowly spread out like ink, making all the children hold their breath. His black hair fluttered in the air, unable to move. Behind him was a silver serpent of lightning, but he didn't mind, single-handedly resisting these thousands of thunderbolts. He did only one thing: lowered his eyes and looked at the group of children with a calm gaze.
It is truly noble and elegant to the extreme!
Another bolt of lightning struck down with ferocious force. He flipped his hand and raised his sword, shattering the incoming lightning into pieces. The silver sword danced in the air, creating a beautiful sword flower. The sword gradually shrank into a streak of silver light, and with a whoosh, it flew between the man's eyebrows, leaving a silver pattern in its wake.
No one dared to say a word on the entire Thunder Road.
The trial time had long passed, but no one thought of this issue.
Not long after, three monks in white robes flew over in a hurry. When they saw the man, they saluted and shouted, "Senior Brother Luo."
Luo Jianqing nodded gently to the three of them. He then turned to look at the children on Thunder Road. After a quick glance, he quickly spotted the brother and sister-like trial participants.
