Chapter 126

Yuanzhou, Rongguo.

Rong State was located in the eastern part of Yuanzhou. The Luoqi Mountain Range ran from the northwest to the southeast, dividing the vast state into two parts. The eastern part was close to the Mengsha River, which was shrouded in thick fog year-round. Fishermen could only travel a few dozen miles east and could not go any further.

For cultivators, crossing the Dream Demon River will lead them to the cruel and terrifying Dream Demon Land.

The four most dangerous places in Xuantian Continent are the Far North, the Pleiades, the South, and the Dream Demon Land.

The dangers of the Dream Demon Land are somewhat similar to those of the Pleiades Land. The Pleiades Land is mostly swamps that can be enchanted into the ground, testing and tempering the will of the cultivators who enter, and refining their spirits. The Dream Demon Land, on the other hand, is home to a strange mythical beast called the Dream Demon.

Dream demons have no fixed form. They are like a cloud of purple mist. When they float silently to your side, they will lead you into layers of illusions. This illusion is far more terrifying than the bottomless pit in the far north, because everything that happens in this illusion is a true test for the cultivator.

Mengsha is extremely bewitching and poisonous. If inhaled into the mouth, it is inevitable for those who are not in the Mahayana stage to be poisoned.

Moreover, according to legend, Mengsha are the abandoned children of heaven. They were the masters of Xuantian Continent many years ago. Just like the human race and the demon race, there is also a Mengsha clan on earth.

Each Dream Demon is inherently dangerous, yet they are also excellent ingredients for alchemists. For a master alchemist, obtaining a Dream Demon offers the possibility of refining an eighth-grade or even a ninth-grade divine elixir. For millennia, countless Mahayana masters have braved the dangers of entering the Dream Demon Land to capture it, seeking to obtain what they desire from the alchemist. Many have perished in the illusion.

The narrow and graceful Mengsha River is like a silver jade belt, winding and twisting between the mountains, sparkling in the sun.

Beside this beautiful river lies a peaceful and quiet little village. Wisps of smoke rise from the chimneys of every household, the white smoke being blown over the Mengsha River and blending into the thick fog.

This is Dream Village.

The people of Meng Village have been fishing for generations, and the Mengsha River is the mother river they depend on for survival.

It was early morning, just as the sky was getting light. Every household had cooked their meals and sent their children off to the village school to learn to read and write. The women would send their husbands to the Mengsha River, watching them board their boats to fish, and then wait for their return in the evening.

The school at the entrance of the village was built only ten years ago. The teacher was a very handsome young man. He taught each child to read and write, and led them in reciting the Four Books and Five Classics.

When it was almost noon, a child blinked his big eyes and said, "Sir, can I listen to a story today?"

The gentleman was startled and put down the book in his hand. He was wearing a very simple blue cloth shirt. Although he was not handsome, he was also delicate and fair, with a pair of eyes reflecting a clear light. He smiled slightly and said, "You want to listen to stories again today, don't you want to study hard?"

Several more children shouted, "Sir, we want to hear a story. We really want to hear a story. Please tell us a story."

The young gentleman shook his head helplessly. He was clearly not very good at dealing with these mischievous children. After placing the book on the desk, he said, "Okay, today I will tell you a story about the Mengsha River. Legend has it that over 13,400 years ago, there was a Mahayana... an immortal who came to the Mengsha River, entered the thick fog, and reached the other side of the river..."

The sun was shining brightly, and the story was only half told when it was time to go home.

Many children were listening with great pleasure and didn't want to leave, but the teacher frowned sternly and said, "It's time to go back and eat, otherwise your mother will worry. This is not good..." He paused suddenly, his eyes narrowed slightly, and after a pause, he continued, "This is not good. If you don't leave now, I will never tell stories again."

The children's attempts to act coquettishly failed, so they had to go back obediently.

Before leaving, the gentleman paused for a moment as he opened the door. He turned around, looked at the group of young, immature children, and suddenly said with a smile, "You must study hard in the future. If you don't listen, you will be punished, understand?"

The children said in unison, "Yes, sir!"

After the teacher tidied up the classroom, he walked to the small room at the back and met the man who was planting and watering the flowers. The two looked at each other for a moment, and the teacher in green clothes said, "It's time to go, Master. Someone is coming."

The young man in white nodded slightly, lowered his eyes to glance at the flowers in the yard, and said, "Let's go."

The moment the words fell, the two of them disappeared in the yard.

A cup of tea later, everyone in Dream Village witnessed a scene they would never forget. Countless immortals, only known in legends, descended from the sky and landed beside the Mengsha River. Some even flew into the thick mist surrounding the river, disappearing into obscurity.

The children who had just finished school shouted in horror: "Immortal...Immortal!"

A handsome young man quickly flew into the Dream Village. He glanced around with a cold gaze and said calmly, "Have you ever seen two young men with outstanding appearances? They might have passed by here and entered the Dream Demon River."

The children had never seen such a beautiful person. They thought carefully, and after a long time, one of them said, "No one here has ever been driven into the Mengsha River. You should not go in either. Immortal, this Mengsha River is very scary. My mother said there are monsters in it."
