Chapter 75 We were ambushed!

Chapter 75 We were ambushed!

Just as Tantai Wushuang had said, the dry land in front of him was instantly stained with blood, turning into a strange rusty red. Although there were no corpses, it still looked quite shocking. Ye Chi couldn't help but swallow and slowly approached, enduring the strong smell of rust. The pool of blood spread to the bushes. He bent down, reached out and touched the ground, then stared at the bloodstains on his fingertips, slightly lost in thought.

This blood contains the spiritual energy of Ya Feiyu…

In that instant, there was a sound like something snapping. Ye Chi abruptly looked up at the heavy stone door before the pool of blood. This seemed to be where the blood had begun to spread, meaning... Ya Feiyu was very likely behind this door. Ye Chi approached step by step, as if afraid of some trap ahead. He raised his hand and ran his hand over the surface of the stone door. The door was visibly damaged, seemingly quite old. A thick layer of dust had accumulated on it, but there were more than a few spots where the dust had been wiped away, meaning that at least recently, someone had approached and touched the door.

Thinking of the pool of blood on the ground, Ye Chi naturally assumed that the person who entered must be Ya Feiyu.

Finally finding his master's whereabouts was indeed incredibly exciting. Ye Chi instinctively reached out to push the door, but the heavy door wouldn't budge. Ye Chi was stunned for a moment, initially thinking he hadn't used enough force. He took a deep breath, gathered all his strength in his arms, tensed his muscles, and pushed with all his might—

There was still no movement.

Ye Chi tried this repeatedly, at least five times, but the door seemed to be embedded in the ground; it wouldn't open, not even make a sound. Ye Chi was almost exhausted. He withdrew his hand, angrily slammed his fist on the stone door, only shaking off some surface dust; the door remained completely still. Ye Chi gave up on forcing it open, but he couldn't think of any better way to open it for the time being, so he stared blankly at the door.

Tantai Wushuang couldn't stand it any longer and said, "This door must have a special way of opening it..."

Ye Chi said sullenly, "Of course I know."

Everyone knew this door couldn't be forced open. Ye Chi realized this the moment he saw the intricate patterns on it, but his longing for his master prevented him from wasting time and energy pondering such unnecessary matters. Most importantly, he couldn't even concentrate on something as simple as that. Having finally found a possible trace of Ya Feiyu, he showed no outward sign, but he felt himself teetering on the brink of collapse.

"I'll do it." Just then, Mo Huanchen walked up from behind. His scarred face was solemn, and the face that Ye Chi had always found repulsive now seemed incredibly reliable. Ye Chi was immediately drawn to him. Mo Huanchen's confident tone made it seem as if he truly knew what to do. "You know how to open the door?"

Mo Huanchen didn't answer him. Instead, he pulled a short dagger from his sleeve. A flash of blood appeared, and a deep gash instantly appeared on his wrist. Before Ye Chi and Tantai Wushuang could react, he approached the stone door and offered his bloodied wrist. The door seemed to come alive instantly, bursting forth with a dazzling crimson light before slowly opening.

Seeing the door finally open, Mo Huanchen expressionlessly lowered his head to wipe the blood that had trickled down his hand. He was no longer a cultivator; at best, he was just a mortal with some talent. He didn't know the healing techniques of cultivators, but he was used to injuries. Unless a wound was life-threatening, no matter how gruesome, it was just a minor injury he could easily ignore. He took a few steps forward, then, sensing that Tantai Wushuang and Ye Chi hadn't followed, turned back and asked, "Aren't you coming?"

Upon hearing this, Ye Chi and Tantai Wushuang snapped out of their daze and quickly followed.

The three figures completely disappeared behind the door, and the blood-red light on the stone door flashed twice before closing heavily again.

An eerie silence filled the journey. Tantai Wushuang and Ye Chi followed behind Mo Huanchen, maintaining an imperceptible distance. Mo Huanchen knew his earlier performance was abnormally polished, but to him, everyone except Ya Feiyu was unimportant, even Ya Feiyu's disciple. Therefore, he didn't care how they viewed him.

Silence reigned behind the door, and the thick layer of dust on the ground left clear footprints wherever one passed. Clearly, someone had passed by earlier, saving them the trouble of carefully avoiding danger.

But the footprint didn't last long and soon broke off.

Before a dimly lit array.

Mo Huanchen seemed to have anticipated this. He stretched out his hand, his wrist, which had not yet fully healed from the previous cut, now came in handy again. Blood dripped onto the formation, and the process was almost identical to that outside the stone gate. A streak of blood light flashed, and the originally flat ground suddenly opened up, revealing a downward passage that was shrouded in darkness and could not be clearly seen.

It went so smoothly it felt like a dream.

...

The deeper they went, the stronger the ever-present unease became. Tantai Wushuang clung tightly to the wall, as if afraid she might accidentally wander into endless darkness. Mo Huanchen led the way, while Ye Chi brought up the rear. The ominous atmosphere in the air grew heavier, but at the same time, Ya Feiyu's spiritual energy was also present. As they moved forward, Ya Feiyu's spiritual power seemed to become more pronounced, although it was mostly obscured by demonic energy. Ye Chi quickened his pace involuntarily. Just thinking that Ya Feiyu was ahead made him eager to see him. He wished he could go faster, much faster.

There was another door deep inside, which seemed to be the source of all the eerie atmosphere outside, and it had already been opened. Ye Chi was about to step forward when he suddenly sensed something and stopped in his tracks.

"Master's aura... ends here..."

His eyes were vacant as he spoke, his dark pupils slightly unfocused, looking as if he had lost his soul, which made Tantai Wushuang feel a little sorry for him. Mo Huanchen, however, remained calm and stepped into the doorway first. Behind this door was an exceptionally deep darkness, like a black hole, swallowing all light until the world was nothing but a void of blackness.

Ye Chi quickly snapped out of his daze and immediately followed.

The fact that Ya Feiyu's aura has ceased doesn't necessarily mean anything. Perhaps the demonic energy in this area is too dense, completely masking her already faint aura. It doesn't mean that Ya Feiyu is truly in danger...

Ya Feiyu will definitely be alright...

...

Behind the door, the darkness was even greater. While the outer corridor was dark, it wasn't completely pitch black, thanks to torches. Here, however, there was absolutely no visible light. Ye Chi tried to ignite the flame in his palm, but this was clearly a pointless attempt. The flame appeared briefly, then a gust of black wind swept by, causing it to flicker weakly twice before extinguishing completely. Ye Chi tried again to rekindle it, but all attempts were futile. Not only could the flame not be maintained, but even his spiritual energy seemed blocked, unable to be released, causing him immense frustration. Ye Chi experienced for the first time the reality of being an ordinary person; the inability to use his spiritual energy meant that if they encountered any danger, they would have to rely solely on their own hands and feet to fight for their lives.

More importantly, with his spiritual power sealed, he could no longer sense Ya Feiyu's aura as before.

All clues have now gone cold, leaving him at his most helpless moment. But now that he has followed the trail all the way here, Ye Chi is not about to sit idly by and wait for his doom.

He had a strong premonition that Ya Feiyu was nearby, and even though their connection had been completely severed, Ye Chi still had a strong intuition about it.

Because it was so dark that one could easily bump into a wall, the three of them were forced to slow down, inching forward step by step just to be safe. Tantai Wushuang's face was so pale that his stiffness was visible even in the darkness. This time, he was at the very back, taking small, quick steps, hiding behind Ye Chi. His voice was weak, but not easily ignored in the silence: "I feel like something is watching me..."

Ye Chi didn't take it to heart. Without turning his head, he said, "There's nothing here, don't overthink it."

Tantai Wushuang responded with a low "hmm," probably having taken it to heart. Although he still didn't seem to be relaxing, Ye Chi didn't have the extra attention to focus on him. He simply assumed that the man was scaring himself. Ghosts in the cultivation world weren't impossible, and he had seen things even more terrifying than ghosts. Anyway, as long as there was no malice, Ye Chi had learned to ignore them all.

After a while, Tantai Wushuang spoke again, on the verge of tears: "I really feel something behind me, Brother Ye, Brother Mo, let's hurry up..."

Mo Huanchen said, "It won't be fast."

Ye Chi said, "Don't scare yourself."

Seeing that the two of them didn't seem to think anything of it, Tantai Wushuang almost cried: "Turn around and take a look!"

Seeing his tearful appearance, the two sensed something was wrong and turned around at the same time. At the very end of the group that originally consisted of only three people, there was now a black shadow, mostly hidden in the darkness, with only a vague outline visible. At this moment, the shadow was placing its pale hand on Tantai Wushuang's shoulder. The distance between them was extremely close, almost touching.

Ye Chi and Mo Huanchen were startled—not because they had seen a ghost, but because they had both seen this black shadow before.

That was the attire of a demonic cultivator, and considering the various unusual things that had been revealed here—

This place is actually the lair of the demonic cultivators!

With a command: "Scatter!"
