Chapter Forty-Four: The Master's... Background?

Chapter Forty-Four: The Master's... Background?

"Young Master, you're finally awake!"

Where is he...?

Ye Chi groggily lifted his heavy eyelids. When that clear, melodious voice rang in his ears, he almost thought he had transmigrated into some unknown novel again. But when he saw the situation before him, he immediately denied the guess—because the little maid who spoke was not looking at him.

Instead, he was looking at a young man on the bed.

The young man, his eyes tightly closed, slowly moved his slender fingertips upon hearing this, awakening him from his sweet dream. His expression was not pleasant; his silver eyes revealed a hint of dissatisfaction. He propped himself up with his hands, his soft earlobes drooping to his sides, and strange patterns between his brows shimmering with a golden glow.

"What's all the noise about?" The voice was cold and indifferent. "I'm awake."

The young maid was clearly afraid of him, and dared not even raise her voice too high. But after being reminded by the person next to her, she stammered, "Young Master, um..."

"What?"

"The demons have invaded again." As she spoke, seemingly afraid of being punished by the enraged young master, the maid covered her head with her hands, her eyes brimming with tears, and said, "I'm useless, I couldn't stop them..."

The once hot-tempered young master of the demon race did not get angry this time. The maid did not dare to relax, thinking that this might be another sign of the storm coming. She still did not dare to get up, and kept her head down and trembling.

But the young master seemed to have suddenly changed his nature today. He didn't get angry at all. Hearing this, he just waved his sleeve lightly and said, "Organize the troops and go to the front line to fight."

The maid stammered, "But...but..."

The young master lifted his eyelids, glancing at it impatiently: "But what is it?"

"But now, you are the only one left in the pure-blooded Tianyu clan..."

The maidservant knelt down and said, "Young Master, we cannot go to war."

The young master's face hardened, his expression, which had just begun to warm, now turned icy cold. If looks could be sharp blades, the maid had no doubt she would have died a million times over. Even though she feared the man before her, she refused to yield. A rare, resolute look hardened in her soft eyes, like the unyielding strength of a pine tree. With a conviction she had to uphold, even the timid maid was no longer afraid. She straightened up and looked directly at the young master, whose expression held a hint of rage, and said, "You cannot wage war. You must be reborn from the ashes. Only in this way can the last bloodline of the Heavenly Feather Clan be preserved."

"Young Master, we don't have much time left."

As soon as she finished speaking, a few short, coarse feathers appeared on the maid's small ears. The Celestial Feather Clan, also known as the Divine Bird Clan, is known for its bravery and skill in battle. Generations of them have produced divine generals, which has earned them special favor from the Heavenly Realm. The Heavenly Realm granted special permission to elevate the celestial birds, which were originally just celestial creatures, to divine birds that could be ranked among the immortals. From then on, the Celestial Feather Clan has been passed down from generation to generation, seemingly never to decline.

But all of this was abruptly brought to a halt during the war between gods and demons.

The Skyfeather Clan was almost completely wiped out, and even the most distant branches of the bloodline were not spared. The female birds were kidnapped, and no one knows what became of them; the male birds were tamed by the demons and transformed into demonic beasts, fighting on the battlefield in another dark and sunless place. Their ultimate fate was undoubtedly to explode and die without a complete corpse.

Only in this secluded place, unknown to the world, does the purest Heavenly Feather bloodline still exist.

However, his existence has been discovered by the demons, and he will soon face death.

The Celestial Feather Clan is the leader of all birds. All the birds in this mountain forest fight to protect the Celestial Feather Young Master. However, most of them are still mortals. How can they defeat the vast army of demon soldiers with their bare hands? As a result, they suffer heavy casualties, and the mountain forest slowly becomes a mass grave for birds.

The maidservant before him was one of the few birds still willing to stay by his side, but she too would soon die.

The young master blinked slowly, as if he wanted to look at her a little longer.

"The demons... they are truly hateful." Footsteps could be heard outside the door. The maid gritted her teeth in hatred, turned around, and erected a barrier, trapping the stunned young master of the Tianyu Clan inside. Her spiritual power was weak, and even she herself didn't know how long the barrier could last, but she was only thinking of taking a gamble and betting all her chances on this.

"Young Master, let's go quickly."

"If we don't leave now, it will be too late."

The illusion ends with the demons breaking down the door. The maid fights the intruders, but unfortunately, two fists are no match for four hands. She falls in front of the barrier, her palms covered in bloodstains. The innocent young master of the Tianyu clan looks at her through the barrier, his eyes devoid of joy or sorrow.

Finally, he suddenly raised his head and met Ye Chi's gaze.

The latter was startled, and before he could figure out what was going on, the world before him suddenly plunged into darkness again.

This young master... looks just like Ya Feiyu.

But it's not quite the same.

He thought.

...

Slowly, Ye Chi woke up.

He seemed to have collapsed in a cave—he didn't know how he had gotten there unconscious, but his whole body ached and he could barely move. He looked around and saw Ya Feiyu lying beside him, her hair soaked with sweat and sticky to his face.

His condition... seems even worse than before.

Ye Chi felt a splitting headache. The memories from just now only came flooding back the moment he saw Ya Feiyu. His gaze was blank for a moment, and then a huge wave surged in his heart—the so-called "young master" just now was at least 70 or 80 percent similar to Ya Feiyu!

Especially their silver eyes, which are almost identical.

Judging from the fragmented clues presented in the illusion just now, the Tianyu Clan should have been wiped out. Even the last young master did not survive the war. This is also the world background of this book. The Tianyu Clan has long been exterminated, with not a single one left.

Whether it is 100% credible still needs to be verified, but according to Ye Chi's memory, there has never been a purebred Tianyu Clan. Even Shi Bai, a descendant of the Tianyu Clan, is the type who has become extremely corrupt, with almost no demon blood left in his body.

Nevertheless... how do we explain the fact that Ya Feiyu looks almost exactly like the young master of the Tianyu Clan?

As he pondered, Ye Chi's gaze fell upon Ya Feiyu. There were indeed differences. The young master, born into the Tianyu clan, possessed an innate aura of arrogance unique to powerful individuals, his expression radiating the majesty of a superior. Ya Feiyu, however, was different. He was aloof, like an immortal being. From Ye Chi's interactions, Ya Feiyu was a person of detached humanity, let alone possessing any petty emotions like arrogance.

The Tianyu Clan undergoes rebirth with memories of their past lives. If Ya Feiyu were truly that young master, his personality wouldn't have changed so drastically.

Moreover, they differ in some minor details.

The tattoo between the demon lord's brows was visibly luxurious, but Ya Feiyu's was different; it was relatively simple, with a more understated, pale blue hue, which didn't match his golden appearance. Furthermore, the power surging within the young master wasn't spiritual energy, but rather demonic energy—a dense, potent demonic energy.

The cultivation paths of the demon race and the human race are not connected, and they are destined to be unable to connect. Ya Feiyu's body contains pure and surging spiritual power. Even though it has been somewhat polluted by the Blood Jade Demon Pearl, it is still considered pure. At most, it is only mixed with some demonic energy, but it is still cleaner than the spiritual power of some dual-spiritual-root cultivators.

Demons are destined to be unable to absorb spiritual power, so how could Ya Feiyu be the reincarnation of the young master of the Tianyu clan?

He sighed, but even he couldn't be completely convinced by such a small difference.

Just then, Ya Feiyu woke up. He slowly opened his eyes, squinted, and murmured, "...Ye Chi."

"Yes, Master, I'm here, I'm here!" Ye Chi quickly replied.

Ya Feiyu quickly regained consciousness and came to his senses from his half-awake state. He propped himself up and sat up, looking around. They were deep inside an unnamed cave, where they could hear the soft sound of water dripping and echoing. Ya Feiyu leaned against the wall, feeling extremely uncomfortable, as if he were being roasted by fire. His skin ached inexplicably, and he couldn't explain why. The cold spiritual energy couldn't alleviate the pain, so he had to rest for a while.

"How did we get here?" Ya Feiyu asked, her voice still a little breathless, after catching her breath.

Ye Chi blinked: "I don't know either, Master..."

Ya Feiyu's eyes flickered slightly. He sighed and shook his head; indeed, he was still somewhat drowsy. Just then, a light sound came from the depths of the cave, like melodious music, echoing in his ears and miraculously sweeping away his fatigue. He paused slightly, realizing something, and immediately stood up to look. A golden light flashed past where his gaze had swept across.

Although she didn't know what it was, Ya Feiyu felt that she resonated with it.

Should we go...?

"Master?" Ye Chi's voice sounded from behind. Ya Feiyu turned his head and looked at him with concern. He asked, "Master, are you alright? Was there something just now?"

Ye Chi...can't you see him?

"It's nothing." Ya Feiyu hesitated for a moment, then said in a low voice, "I'll go check it out. Don't follow me. Wait for me here."

Although he was confident in Ya Feiyu's abilities, Ya Feiyu's current condition wasn't good. Ye Chi frowned, hesitating several times before finally choosing to remain silent and withdrawing his outstretched hand. Ya Feiyu would be fine; he didn't need to worry unnecessarily. Thinking this, the gloom on Ye Chi's face quickly faded. He adjusted his expression, revealing a pure smile, and said, "Then Master, please be careful."

Ya Feiyu was genuinely curious about the golden light, but unwilling to involve his disciple, he was relieved that the disciple was willing to stay as he wished. He took off the brocade pouch hanging from his waist and placed it with the disciple.

"If there is any danger, don't worry about me. You can manage on your own with these."

"Master, please don't say that." Ye Chi held Ya Feiyu's brocade pouch tightly in his hands in silence. "Master will definitely be safe."

Ya Feiyu paused slightly, then couldn't help but smile.

"must."
