Chapter Sixty-Two: Heaven is jealous of talent
"Master!"
A voice snapped him back to reality. Ya Feiyu instinctively looked up and saw Ye Chi rushing towards him. He must have been running too fast; his chest heaved, and he was panting heavily, his breathing ragged. He said, "Master, the competition is about to begin. Let's hurry back!"
Ya Feiyu's eyes flickered slightly, and he nodded gently, returning to the venue with him. Ye Chi, however, was hiding well, secretly observing Mo Huanchen from where Ya Feiyu couldn't see him. This man who had appeared out of nowhere didn't seem very friendly. His dark eyes shifted from relaxed to wary the moment Ya Feiyu appeared. Ye Chi could see the unwelcoming look in his eyes, but he didn't care. Instead, he grinned and gave him a provocative look.
"Master, who is this person? Why is he following you?" Ye Chi turned back to ask Ya Feiyu, his words tinged with a sour tone. Ya Feiyu glanced down and said, "He's someone I... know."
Having said that, he seemed unwilling to say more, turning his head away and staring straight ahead, appearing unwilling to communicate. Ye Chi wasn't stupid; he noticed the obvious pause in his master's words. Ya Feiyu was lying to him. Thinking this, his eyes suddenly darkened, and his heart tightened. Who was this man? Why would his master deceive him for him? Could he be one of the other key characters in the book? Or just cannon fodder mentioned only briefly by the original author?
Which other characters in the book have this connection to Ya Feiyu? Ye Chi fell into a brief moment of thought, his mind racing through the plot and recalling all the intricate names. He carefully observed the man before him; his skin was dark, and he had a hideous scar on his face. Although he wasn't bad-looking, the scar gave him a somewhat fierce appearance. The whites of his eyes were prominent, and his pupils were pure black, like black holes, capable of absorbing all light.
He closed his eyes tightly, his thoughts racing, and just then, a name popped into his mind.
Mo Huanchen.
Even someone with a good memory like him took a long time to recall the name. The reason was simple: the character's presence was incredibly weak. As cannon fodder by Ya Feiyu's side, and also someone who was easily defeated by the male lead, Mo Huanchen was one of those who met his end early on. He had few scenes and little description, merely described as Ya Feiyu's most loyal lackey. His ending was also quite tragic; for disobeying the male lead's will, he was thrown into a mass grave, his soul torn to pieces by vengeful ghosts.
However, according to the book, this person should have joined Ya Feiyu's side and become a slave to the main villain much later in the story, after being saved by him. However, Ya Feiyu is not a villain now; he is still the high and mighty Elder Tianxue, and has no reason to go to some mass grave. If the timeline is correct, Mo Huanchen should have died long ago because no one saved him.
But why would he suddenly appear here? That doesn't make sense.
Could it be...?
A sudden thought flashed through Ye Chi's mind, and an extremely terrifying idea surfaced, causing him to tremble uncontrollably. The cold air from the snow-capped mountain was penetrating everywhere, stealing the warmth from his body. His fingers trembled slightly, but he had to maintain a calm expression so that others would not notice his abnormality.
Since he transmigrated into the book, he has changed the plot so much that the storyline has completely collapsed. People who shouldn't be here are here, while those who should be here are nowhere to be found.
Everything is heading towards an irreversible trend...
As Ye Chiru was immersed in cold water, a chilling feeling swept through his heart. When he looked at Mo Huanchen again, his thoughts completely changed. He felt fear, unease, and dread. He subconsciously reached out and grabbed Ya Feiyu's sleeve, as if afraid that the person in front of him would suddenly disappear.
The person whose sleeve he was gripping paused slightly, turned their head, and looked at Ye Chi with a calm and indifferent expression that Ye Chi knew all too well: "What's wrong?"
Ye Chi forced a smile: "N-nothing."
But a little voice inside him was screaming and shouting hysterically.
The Heavenly Dao must have noticed his existence. Mo Huanchen's appearance might be a foreshadowing, or a warning. Ye Chi's gaze fell on Ya Feiyu's tall and slender back. He loosened his grip on Ya Feiyu's sleeve, letting his hand hang at his side. He had unconsciously clenched it tightly, not even noticing the pain.
If Heaven truly discovers something amiss and seeks to eliminate all errors, then the first one to be in trouble will undoubtedly be Ya Feiyu.
The current plot deviation is due to Ya Feiyu's failure to become a demon. Once he becomes a demon, the plot will return to normal, the long-lost male protagonist will return, and Ya Feiyu's final fate will still be to become the biggest villain in the entire cultivation world, killed by the male protagonist and his harem, and used as a stepping stone for the male protagonist to achieve eternal fame.
If it were the Ye Chi of the past, he wouldn't even consider interfering with the choices of Heaven. After all, he was just a mortal, an ordinary person who had transmigrated from the modern world. He wouldn't be so presumptuous as to try to oppose the gods of this world. But things are different now.
He has already disrupted many plot frameworks. Despite his efforts, Ya Feiyu did not fall into demonic possession. He repeatedly defied the Heavenly Dao, just to pull this tragic villain back from the abyss of demonic possession. He has already gone against the Heavenly Dao. If Ya Feiyu falls into demonic possession now, wouldn't all his previous efforts be in vain?
No, no, he absolutely will not let that happen!
When they returned to the venue, Ya Feiyu's performance was about to begin. As the lead actor, he had been called away, leaving his seat empty. Ye Chi, on the other hand, stood in his original spot, his eyelashes drooping absentmindedly, clearly preoccupied.
Just then, Mo Huanchen arrived.
He was tall and slender, a head taller than Ya Feiyu. He walked towards you from a distance, exuding a strong sense of oppression, especially his wolf-like eyes. Although he didn't seem to have any malicious intent, you would always feel a chill when those eyes were on you.
Ye Chi's heart immediately went into alarm bells, but he maintained a nonchalant expression. He leaned back lazily in his chair and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Mo Huanchen said expressionlessly, "The elder sent me here."
Ye Chi was slightly taken aback. Of course, he knew who the "elder" Mo Huanchen was referring to was, which further confirmed his earlier guess. Given Ya Feiyu's wariness, how could he possibly let a complete stranger come here? There was only one possibility to explain it: they had met before.
In the original story, Mo Huanchen was picked up from a mass grave by Ya Feiyu. In this life, at least under Ye Chi's nose, Ya Feiyu has never been to a mass grave or similar place. In other words, they did not have any opportunity to meet, unless... they had met before.
His heart sank, and he asked, "Why did my master send you here?"
Mo Huanchen noticed Ye Chi's wariness towards him. He couldn't understand why the young man's eyes clearly showed his rejection of him, as if there was some deep-seated hatred between them. But there was no reason for this. Ya Feiyu had never shown any unwelcoming feelings towards him from beginning to end. On the contrary, their relationship was like that of old friends who had known each other for a long time. There was no reason for the person in front of him to put on such an attitude.
To survive and thrive under a formidable villain like Ya Feiyu, Mo Huanchen naturally possessed his own set of skills. His intuition was exceptionally strong, and like his wolf-like appearance, his alertness resembled that of a wild beast hunting its prey in the dog-eat-dog world. He remembered that in his previous life, he had never seen Ye Chi by Ya Feiyu's side, nor had he ever heard of Ya Feiyu taking on disciples. This person had suddenly appeared by Ya Feiyu's side in this life, and he acted... as if he knew something.
He composed himself and said, "The elder asked me to come here to watch the battle, saying that the view from here is better."
Ye Chi wouldn't believe such nonsense, but the platform, reserved for sect members, was off-limits to unauthorized personnel unless permitted by the sect leader. This meant that Mo Huanchen's arrival had indeed been permitted by Ya Feiyu. Even if Ye Chi didn't want to be with this person, he had no choice but to accept his fate. He curled his lip, crossed his arms, and stared at the platform. During their conversation, the stage had been prepared. Ya Feiyu stood on the platform, sword in hand, and instantly, a deathly silence fell around them.
The next instant, the sword dance tore through the air, emitting a piercing shriek. No one dared to blink, no one spoke, and the only sound in the surroundings was the sound of the sword cutting through the air. Ya Feiyu was a genius that even the heavens envied, as if he was born to stand in that place, watched by everyone. They envied him, were jealous of him, but could never surpass that snow-white figure.
Ya Feiyu's performance was very simple and unpretentious. Unlike the previous champions who used all sorts of spiritual energy and talismans to create hype for themselves, he simply danced with his sword in a very ordinary way, yet he was able to attract everyone's attention so easily.
Ye Chi didn't even realize when the performance ended. He only knew that when he came to his senses, the whole audience erupted in thunderous applause. He subconsciously turned his head and saw that Ya Feiyu had returned to her seat at some point, lazily propping her cheek up with her hand, looking utterly bored.
Noticing Ye Chi's gaze, Ya Feiyu casually looked up and asked indifferently, "What's wrong?"
Ye Chi snapped out of his daze, swallowed hard, and tried to look away from Ya Feiyu's captivating silver eyes, saying, "It's nothing."
