Chapter 40 You think you can marry my master?!
Although located in the middle of the sea, the location of the Sea Palace is quite easy to find.
Ya Feiyu rode his sword, with Ye Chi trailing closely behind. The wind at high altitudes carried a biting chill, and even with Ya Feiyu's spiritual energy barrier protecting him, the cold wind still managed to seep through the gaps in his clothes. Ye Chi silently hugged his arms tightly; his legs trembled from the cold, so he sat on his sword. He dared not look down; beneath the misty clouds lay a bottomless abyss, enough to terrify even someone without a fear of heights. They had reached the depths of the sea, and as far as the eye could see, there was no land to be seen.
It's unclear why Ya Feiyu wasn't afraid at all, standing calmly on the sword. His clothes were exceptionally ethereal, the ribbons fluttering in the wind, and combined with his otherworldly face and demeanor, he seemed like a celestial being descending to earth for a stroll.
Ye Chi was lost in thought, pondering when he would arrive at the Sea Palace, when a cold voice came from ahead: "We've arrived."
Ye Chi suddenly looked up, but all he saw was a cloud of mist, nothing at all. He looked at Ya Feiyu suspiciously, who noticed his gaze, turned her head slightly, and said calmly, "When we came here before, there wasn't a trace of mist, but here it's all shrouded in mist. Don't you think there's something wrong with that?"
After his reminder, Ye Chi suddenly realized what was going on. He followed Ya Feiyu into the clouds, where his vision was severely blurred. He squinted to avoid it, and after passing through the cloud wall, the view suddenly opened up.
A colossal tree reaching for the heavens came into view first. It was no ordinary tree; its trunk was gilded, its branches scattered, adorned with golden lotuses that emitted a soft, shimmering light. Ye Chi was lost in thought, unaware that Ya Feiyu's body had frozen in that instant. They flew to the edge of the Sea Palace City and landed, their swords transforming into starlight and dissipating.
Ya Feiyu walked ahead, but the streets were deserted, with empty stalls along the way. The once bustling scene was now eerily quiet, even more so than the most remote village. Ye Chi also sensed something was wrong and followed closely beside Ya Feiyu, not daring to lag behind, looking around like a wild beast whose territory had been invaded.
"Master, the atmosphere here... seems a bit off." Ye Chi looked at him and said cautiously.
Upon hearing the sound, Ya Feiyu looked in the direction indicated. He was more familiar with the area than Ye Chi and naturally sensed something was amiss. He had already noticed something was wrong the moment he saw the bare, gilded tree.
But he didn't say anything, and lowered his voice to say, "Follow me, don't get separated."
Ye Chi nodded obediently. This disciple of his was the most worry-free. Ya Feiyu felt relieved and continued walking forward.
Just then, a golden light descended. Ya Feiyu saw who it was, her pupils contracted, and almost instinctively knocked Ye Chi away. She turned around, drew her sword, and faced off. The longsword and the golden spear clashed, sparks flying between them. Taking advantage of the gap in their fight, Ye Chi finally saw who it was—a man in a black robe, with blue eyes, golden hair, and a carefree smile on his face. His eyes were full of determination, without a trace of tension in a battle.
In the brief moment of Ye Chi's stunned silence, the two had already exchanged dozens of blows. The blond man thrust out with his spear, but Ya Feiyu turned and dodged, his longsword pressed against Ye Chi's neck. With a slight pressure, the cold blade pressed against his fragile skin. The man paused, withdrew his spear, raised his hands, and said, "Oh dear, don't be so fierce. I surrender, I surrender."
Ye Chi was momentarily stunned. He saw Ya Feiyu sheath his sword, a look of satisfaction in his eyes. Although the fight had been brief, it had been a long time since he had encountered an opponent of similar strength. The feeling was quite novel, and he didn't find Ya Feiyu particularly dislikeable. He brushed his messy sideburns behind his ear and said, "Your strength needs improvement."
"Master!" Ye Chi snapped out of his daze, ran up to him, and carefully examined him. Only after confirming that Ya Feiyu was unharmed did he feel relieved and asked, "Do you know this person?"
Ya Feiyu shook his head, speaking with unusual honesty at this moment: "I don't know him."
Ye Chi:
He almost thought they were enemies of Ya Feiyu, fighting so evenly without saying a word to each other. It was fortunate that the two were just exchanging blows, their attacks fierce but without any killing intent; otherwise, such a fight would have been hard to end without someone dying.
The blond man burst into laughter. His bangs were rather long, with curled ends, giving him an uncanny resemblance to certain large dogs. He had typical Western features—deep-set eyes and an extremely tall stature. Even Ya Feiyu, who was already considered tall among Easterners, was a head shorter than him. The man's azure eyes were fixed on Ya Feiyu, his voice barely concealing his excitement: "I haven't met anyone in a long time who could last more than three moves against me, and you lasted twenty! Marry me!"
Ye Chi was stunned for a moment, then sprang up like a dog guarding its food, shielding Ya Feiyu behind him and angrily said, "Don't you dare lay a finger on my master!"
Ya Feiyu lowered her long eyelashes, seemingly completely unperturbed. Ye Chi watched with exasperation, only to hear Ya Feiyu say, "This is a tradition of the Sea Palace people. They don't care about appearance or physique; they only care about strength. The stronger a person is, the more welcome they are."
"..." Okay, if you put it that way, he can understand a little better.
But that doesn't mean he'll let just anyone offend his master!
"Who do you think you are, wanting to marry my master? My master is an elder of the Qinglian Sect, the number one person in the world..."
The blond man casually picked at his ear: "Kid, do you know who I am?"
Ye Chi paused for a moment. He really didn't know; there didn't seem to be such a person in the original story...
Ya Feiyu silently added: "...the son of the Sea Palace Master, the future Palace Master, Vena."
“…Vina?” Ye Chi pondered the name for a moment, finally remembering the existence of this person.
Despite his high status, Vena is essentially cannon fodder in the original novel. In the original work, Ya Feiyu didn't come to the Sea Palace so early on; he only visited once after becoming corrupted and falling into demonic possession. The Sea Palace was poorly informed, and Vena, unaware of Ya Feiyu's demonic transformation, saw him carrying a sword everywhere and recklessly attacked him. Ya Feiyu initially didn't intend to kill him, but Vena's words, "Marry me," offended him, leading to Vena's death in a fit of rage.
You could say he's a cannon fodder character who won't die if he doesn't speak.
But his persona in this world is that of a lonely beggar. He doesn't read much and doesn't even know much about the Sea Palace, so how could he possibly know about Vena? So he blinked his eyes, looking extremely innocent: "I don't know her, I've never heard of her."
As he spoke, he deliberately observed Vener's expression, and seeing that he was slightly annoyed, he added one last sentence:
Is he famous?
Wiener's face darkened: "..."
Ya Feiyu: "..." He actually wanted to laugh a little, but mocking the future master of the Sea Palace might turn into a serious diplomatic incident, so he decided to hold back and pray that Vina's petty nature wouldn't target Ye Chi.
After all, he's still just a child.
"Forget it, I won't bother with someone like you." Viner snorted coldly, then turned to look at Ya Feiyu. He really liked the aura of a powerful person on this man, who had a presence and pressure no less than his own. In addition, considering the identity Ye Chi had just revealed, although he had never heard of the Qinglian Sect, people who could become elders were generally very powerful, and this man even had the title of "Number One Person in the World." If he wasn't a powerful person, who else could be?
And, most importantly...
Ya Feiyu is good-looking.
Wiener is a complete sucker for good looks.
Inside the Sea Palace, most of the powerful figures are unkempt, and due to their genes, they are mostly exceptionally tall and strong. There may even be a few who don't shave their beards or leg hair. At least to Vena, that is a symbol of slovenliness and is unworthy of being with a prince of his noble status.
His aesthetic sense was quite unique within the Sea Palace—he preferred women with noble and elegant qualities, who at least appeared to be his equals in social standing and strength. Such requirements were considered quite high within the Sea Palace.
After all, the people of the Sea Palace have a very simple definition of strength—it's all about hand-to-hand combat.
If you're already fighting hand-to-hand, is it really necessary to look elegant?
Therefore, Vena is now twenty-five years old but still unmarried, a truly unique flower slowly blooming in the royal family of the Sea Palace.
But, with tears in his eyes, Wiener announced that today, he had finally found his true love!
Thinking of this, his gaze towards Ya Feiyu intensified. He was passionate by nature, fearless at heart, and unafraid of rejection. With a flick of his wrist, he conjured a golden lotus. This flower was the symbol of the Sea Palace, representing eternal wealth and nobility. If given to a lover, it signified "love stronger than gold"; if given to someone with whom the relationship was not yet established, it signified "I want to grow old with you"; but if given to a complete stranger…
That implies "I'm just here to act like a hooligan."
If it were the Ya Feiyu of his past life, he would never have let him ramble on for so long. He would have killed him the moment he opened his mouth to flirt. But luckily, the one standing here is Ya Feiyu before he became a demon. Although he appears aloof, his temperament is surprisingly good, and he doesn't hold grudges over small things. He glanced at the flowers indifferently, showing no intention of accepting them, and said, "I've come to see your father. Take me to the palace."
Vena paused slightly, put the flowers back, scratched his head, and said with some trouble, "You're looking for my father?"
"Yes." Ya Feiyu sensed something was wrong. "What's wrong? Is it inconvenient?"
Wiener shook her head: "No, it's just..."
"that is?"
“Well…” Venere hesitated, then said, “Are you also… here to see my father’s lover?”
Ye Chi: "???"
Ya Feiyu: "..."
