Feng Lan's hand trembled involuntarily, and her elegant and proper smile froze on her face.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door, and Secretary Chen walked in carrying documents. "Chairman, Manager Feng."
Feng Lan paused for a moment, then glanced at Wei Zhaoye without making it obvious.
Wei Zhaoye's face was dark. He carried the cake to his desk, still angry, and glanced at Feng Lan. He then said to the bewildered Secretary Chen, "If she's here to discuss a project, prepare the contract, print it out, and let her take it back. If not, ask her to leave."
Secretary Chen had worked for Wei Zhaoye for many years, so he naturally knew that his chairman was in a bad mood. But what had Manager Feng done to make the chairman's face turn so dark?
"Manager Feng, do you still want to discuss cooperation?" Secretary Chen smiled professionally at Feng Lan.
Feng Lan was embarrassed for a while, and her face turned rather ugly. She walked out of the office in her high heels and squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth as she passed Secretary Chen, "Your Chairman Wei is really powerful. A project worth hundreds of millions, and this is how you treat me?"
Secretary Chen's lips moved, but he didn't chase after them. Instead, he consulted Wei Zhaoye, "Chairman, regarding the cooperation with Jingrui Group..."
Wei Zhaoye fiddled with the thumb ring on his finger and said coldly, "Cease all business dealings with Jingrui Group. This project will not proceed—"
Secretary Chen's eyes widened instantly: "Chairman Wei, Jingrui Group is not a small company. Abruptly stopping cooperation with Jingrui may lead to a significant drop in sales. Would you like to reconsider?"
Wei Zhaoye gave Secretary Chen a cold glance.
A week later, Secretary Chen saw that Jingrui Group's stock price had plummeted and that the much-hyped but ultimately ineffective project worth hundreds of millions of yuan had been banned by the government. Suddenly, he understood something.
Of course, that's a story for another time.
The planned collaboration fell through. Wei Zhaoye silently finished a cake in his office, processed some documents, and then prepared to leave.
Secretary Chen kept an eye on the chairman's office. Seeing that his chairman was going to be late and leave early again, he silently buried his head and drank a cup of coffee to refresh himself.
After stepping out of the elevator, Wei Zhaoye made a phone call to Bi Xie.
The call was answered after a slight delay. Bi Xie whispered furtively, "Yingzi's here. Don't give yourself away when you get back tonight! No, you'd better not come back. What if Yingzi takes a fancy to your good looks?"
Wei Zhaoye suddenly laughed: "It's okay, you play a wayward girl and I'll play a wayward boy, it's fine."
Bi Xie couldn't help but laugh out loud: "What are you talking about! You have no idea how alluring you are. If Yingzi saw you, she wouldn't sell you out; she would hide you away!"
Wei Zhaoye hesitated for a moment before saying, "I also want to hide Xiao Xie away."
There was some static coming from the phone.
Bi Xie hurriedly said, "I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm hanging up now."
On the sofa, Xu Ying was eating snacks while the fan was blowing on her. When she saw Bi Xie come out of the bedroom, she asked, "Xiao Xie, who were you calling just now? And you even went to the bedroom to make the call. What, were you afraid I would eavesdrop?"
Bi Xie chuckled twice: "No, it was a call from a teacher at school, trying to persuade me to study abroad."
Xu Ying chuckled and shrugged, saying, "Not bad, Xiao Xie. You've even studied abroad. College students are different. We grew up together, but I'm not as lucky as you. I didn't even finish junior high school. Do you think I'm uncultured and look down on having a childhood friend like me?"
