Chapter 13

Beep, beep.

The mecha made a sound.

Lan Yu looked down at the display screen and saw a small red square icon flashing.

I guess the energy is running out.

In this short moment, we have reached the edge of the city. There is no longer an endless desert under our feet. Instead, there are large tracts of artificial forests and fields, as well as crisscrossing suburban roads and sparse houses.

Lan Yu followed closely behind the Insect King. Ahead was a bustling city. She could already see the changing lights on the tall buildings and the giant screen projections.

The alarm in the mecha increased from once every three seconds to once every second, becoming more rapid and urgent.

In an instant, the Insect King rushed into the city.

Lan Yu thought of what Lu Rankong said and knew that if she didn't catch it, the consequences would be disastrous. I gritted my teeth and flew into the city amid the urgent sounds of alarms.

He looked back from the display screen and saw that the 666 mecha had not slowed down and was still speeding up, closing the distance with him.

The two mechas and one insect instantly plunged into the bustling city, flying across the crowded pedestrian street, passing through the towering skyscrapers, and chasing each other on the busy streets.

There was a chorus of brake sounds and screams on the road, and everyone looked up at this shocking scene.

"What is that? Oh my god, what is that flying in front? Is it an interstellar beast?"

"The mecha is chasing the star beast! This is the mecha chasing the star beast, hide quickly!"

"Why are you hiding? With the mechas around, why are you afraid? Just treat it like a movie. It's so exciting."

All the cautious people hid themselves, and only the fearless young people applauded and cheered, rode their racing motorcycles, and took a shortcut to chase the direction of the mecha.

"Mom, what do you see in the sky? Two cars are flying and chasing a big bug." A child holding a marshmallow asked while lying on his mother's shoulder.

The young mother, wearing headphones, was talking on the phone while paying the bill and didn't hear what her child said clearly.

The Insect King fled desperately, followed closely by Lan Yu's mecha, and then Lu Rankong's 666.

A pedestrian bridge appeared ahead, with a huge poster on it, blocking the way.

The Insect King folded its wings and passed under the overpass. The two mechas also quickly lowered their altitude, stuck close to the car below, and followed it through the overpass.

As Lan Yu came out of the hole in the overpass, a child holding a marshmallow appeared in her sight. He was sitting in his mother's arms, looking at her with his mouth open.

The insect king in front flew past the child, and its prickly hind legs took away the marshmallow in his hand.

The child looked at his empty hands, pursed his lips and wanted to cry.

But before she could even cry out loud, a marshmallow appeared in her hand as if by magic, hanging diagonally beside her hand, unable to fall.

Lan Yu pulled one out from the vending machine next to him and gave it to him, then quickly chased after the Insect King.

The child looked up in surprise and only saw the back of the big truck, but then the big truck behind it also stopped in front of him.

Lu Rankong stretched out a thick steel finger, gently pushed the marshmallow out of the child's hand, straightened it, and then flew out with a whoosh.

Lan Yu followed the Insect King in front of him closely. The neon lights on the tall buildings on both sides formed colorful light bands that flashed past his eyes.

He was very anxious. The energy alarm had become a long tone, just like the long line on the heart monitor after it finally stopped beating.

Maybe in another minute, maybe in less than a minute, it will fall.

Although he was protected by a mecha outside, he was not worried about falling. He just thought that the Insect King would not be able to catch him and escape.

At this moment, the Insect King suddenly turned around and stopped flying along the street, but turned to the right.

Lan Yu and Lu Rankong's mechas also braked suddenly one after another, and then whooshed twice to catch up.

There was no light on the right, and the view was plunged into darkness.

In the dim light, Lan Yu could vaguely see the shadows of a lawn and a small pavilion. It should be a park.

Further away is a vast expanse of sparkling water, which is the large artificial lake in the park.

The Insect King flew over the artificial lake, and the wind created by its wings rolled up waves, which spread out layer by layer.

It had been flying for too long. Lan Yu saw that it was obviously tired and its speed was not as fast as before. However, the two mechas maintained their original speed and gradually closed the distance with it.

But despite this, there is still a distance of more than ten meters between them.

"K, pay attention." Lu Rankong's voice suddenly sounded.

Before Lan Yu could react, she heard a rumbling sound behind her. It was the sound of the mecha accelerating.

Then, he felt his body tremble, as if someone gave him a heavy push from behind, and his mecha suddenly accelerated and rushed out.

He quickly looked at the display screen in front of him, only to see that the light of 666 behind him suddenly disappeared, and the jet under his feet also disappeared. It was like a pile of dull scrap metal, falling rapidly.

Lan Yu couldn't care about anything else now. He just took out the long sword that had been put away on his iron arm, and stabbed it hard the moment he rushed in front of the Insect King.

At this moment, the inside of the mecha suddenly became quiet and the lights went out.

Like Lu Rankong, 999 ran out of energy and shut down automatically.

boom!

The lake water behind him splashed up a column of water several meters high. That was Lu Rankong falling heavily into the water.

In the huge waves that were stirred up, the two long swords on Lan Yu's iron arms silently pierced the Insect King's neck.

The Insect King let out a terrible scream, flapped its wings a few times, flew forward a few meters, and then fell down weakly.

Finally hit it!

Lan Yu lay in the upturned mecha cabin, looking at the bright moon in the sky, and falling down relaxedly.

One second...

Two seconds...

The mecha and the lake water collided heavily.

This artificial lake was very deep, and the mecha was instantly submerged and sank. Lan Yu could only hear the gurgling sound of bubbles coming from outside.

He was a little panicked at first, but calmed down in an instant.

How could this product of future technology not be waterproof? But now the mecha is in a closed state, and Lu Rankong needs to teach him how to manually open the hatch and swim out.

"K, K." Lu Rankong's voice suddenly came from the enclosed space.

Lan Yu was startled and looked around reflexively, only to find that the sound came from the terminal.

"explain……"

There was silence on the other end of the terminal, and then he said, "I need your help."

"explain……"

"My mech is stuck in the mud, and the hatch is blocked. I can't push it open."

Lan Yu fumbled around in the dark and said, "Then wait until I get out and find someone to hoist your mecha up."

Lu Rankong was silent again.

Just as Lan Yu was trying to figure out how to ask for the method of opening the hatch from inside the mecha while keeping her tone casual and natural, he suddenly said, "There's a hole on my mecha."

"Well, so what? You shouldn't pursue external perfection too much at this time." Lan Yu knew the crack on his crotch caused by the Jie insect.

“The water is pouring in.”

Ah, this...

"Have you never opened the hatch switch before? That's why you feel you can't push it open?" Lan Yu tried to ask.

"I turned it on and activated the manual switch."

"Are you sure?" Lan Yu's tone was full of doubt.

Lu Rankong raised his voice impatiently: "Such a simple thing still needs to be confirmed? I pressed the button under the hatch several times."

Got it, the button under the hatch.

"Watch your attitude, Colonel Lu. You need my help now." Lan Yu groped for the hatch in the dark and said coldly.

Lu Rankong immediately calmed down.

Lan Yu stretched out his hand and touched the cold cabin door. He squatted down and groped around underneath.

My fingers suddenly touched something and it rolled gently on the ground. He guessed that it might be a part that had been knocked off by a collision, so he picked it up.

The stick was about a foot long and had many spikes. The tip was wet and when I twisted it with my fingertips, it was very slippery and slimy...

"Ah!" He let out a short scream, threw away the thing in his hand, and rubbed his fingers desperately on his clothes.

This should be the remains of the Jie insect that was crushed by the metal door when the mecha hatch was first closed. The wet and sticky touch is creepy and disgusting, which is completely different from catching insects with the iron arms of a mecha.

"What's wrong?" Lu Rankong's voice came from the terminal, filled with deep doubts.

"I touched it—" Lan Yu blurted out before she realized something was wrong and changed her mind, "I pinched my hand when I touched the hatch."

"Why did you feel your way around? Can't you just turn on the terminal light?" Lu Rankong instantly raised his voice, "I'm waiting for you here, the water has reached my calves, and you're still feeling around for the hatch."

Lan Yu hurriedly opened the terminal, and a beam of light shot out, illuminating the interior of the mecha. But he said stiffly: "It's just the calf, it's too early to die."

There is a red round button under the rectangular metal door, which must be the manual switch.

He put his hand on it, and considering the lake water that would rush in after opening the hatch, he took a deep breath, "Ah Wu——"

"What are you doing?" Lu Rankong's vigilant voice sounded again, "Are you going to go out without wearing an oxygen mask?"

Lan Yu paused, pouting and saying nothing.

"The oxygen mask is hanging on the door. It's very convenient and easy to use. You can get it by just raising your noble arm. Now is not the time to let your wild ideas run wild. Please be serious and earnest. The water in my mecha has reached my thighs! It has reached my thighs! Do you hear me? Colonel K!" Lu Rankong's voice was filled with uncontrollable anger.

Lan Yu quickly took off a mask on top of the hatch, put it on her face, and sneered in a muffled voice, "Oh, go on. I don't mind opening hatch 666 and finding you floating inside with a bulging belly."

Lu Rankong heard that he had put on the mask, so he held his breath and said nothing.

After thinking for a while, Lan Yu took out a small shovel from the toolbox next to her, then pressed the door-opening button and moved close to the door.

After the sound of the airlock venting, the hatch slid open and the cold lake water poured in instantly.

When the water reached half of the mecha, he squatted and sank into the water, then slid out of the hatch like a nimble fish.

The light from the terminal illuminated the bottom of the lake. He saw Lu Rankong's black mecha lying quietly not far away. Between its two thick iron legs, strings of bubbles kept popping up.

Lan Yu: ...

He swam quickly to the mecha, looked around and found that the situation was okay, with only a small part of the hatch buried in the mud.

He took out a small shovel and shoveled into the mud along the metal outer wall. He stopped and knocked on the hatch and asked, "What's going on in there?"

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you're not dead yet."

There is also a mental quarrel, and it seems that there is no hurry.

Lan Yu turned on the camera function of the terminal and took several pictures from various angles.

After all, this kind of scene is quite rare, and it would be a pity not to take a picture of it.

I don’t know if Lu Rankong sensed something, but he suddenly shouted, “How long will it take? The water has already reached my chest.”

Lan Yu quickly used a small shovel to dig at the mud outside the hatch, saying, "Didn't you say you can't die? Why are you so nervous?"

The silt was mostly rotten leaves and mud, which was easy to clean. After digging a few times, he could see the bottom edge of the hatch.

"Can you go faster? My neck is flooded and I can't breathe." Lu Rankong was gasping for breath.

Lan Yu quickened the action of his men and said, "There is an oxygen mask, put it on."

"The oxygen mask is gone... Gulu... Gulu..."

Lan Yu panicked and regretted taking pictures and wasting time. She used the small shovel to dig down frantically.

After shoveling away the last piece of mud that was blocking the hatch, he wanted to knock on the hatch to inform Lu Rankong, but before he could put his hand on it, the hatch slid to the side and a figure swam out quickly.

Looking at the oxygen mask on his face, Lan Yu asked, "Didn't you say he was gone?"

"If not, would you swim a few laps in the lake, pick a moon and play in the water before coming back?" Lu Rankong asked calmly.

Lan Yu wanted to refute, but when she recalled her action of taking pictures, she just sneered in the end.

Lu Rankong said nothing more and turned around to swim forward. Lan Yu knew that he wanted to see the Insect King's corpse, so she just followed him silently.

The terminal light has strong penetrating power in the water, illuminating the surrounding fish, shrimp and aquatic plants in great detail.

The two searched for a while at the location where the Insect King fell into the water, but found no trace.

"Are you sure it's here?" Lu Rankong turned around in the water.

Lan Yu looked at the location of his mecha, estimated the distance, and said with certainty: "It's here..."

After the insect king's neck was pierced, he fell down almost at the same time as him and landed in the center of the lake before him.

The two searched further away but found nothing. Lu Rankong began to swim toward the surface and said, "Since we can't find it, it's not dead yet and has escaped."

As soon as the two surfaced, a bright light shone over them, and Lan Yu squinted his eyes. Many figures were swaying by the lake, and a helicopter was hovering overhead.

"Is it from the military? Is it the mecha soldiers from the military?" someone shouted through a loudspeaker.

The lights were bright around them and I could clearly see the police uniforms they were wearing.

Lu Rankong did not answer, and Lan Yu followed suit in silence, paddling gently in the water with her hands and feet.

"Let's go. We'll swim up from the other side to find the Insect King and leave the mecha to them to salvage." Lu Rankong ordered in a low voice.

Lan Yu was shocked to see that he ignored the policemen. She realized that there was something hidden behind this and immediately replied decisively, "Let's go..."

The two men threw away the oxygen masks on their faces, swam towards the other side with their hands and feet, and soon, the sounds and noise were left far behind. Under the dim moonlight, there was only the sound of water breaking.

The lake was very large and it took us more than ten minutes to swim to the shore.

After landing dripping wet, Lan Yu sat down on the grass, took off his heavy military boots and poured out the water inside, and asked breathlessly, "What happened to those policemen?"

"Hmm?" Lu Rankong had already taken off his coat. He grasped the two ends and twisted them. The strong muscles on his arms bulged.

Lan Yu glanced at him and said, "Aren't you afraid that the police will know about the Insect King, so you ignore them?"

"Why are you afraid that the police will know? The Insect King is not a secret." Lu Rankong shook out his coat and put it on again, asking absentmindedly.

"Then why didn't you answer when they called us just now, and why did you go ashore from this side?"

Lu Rankong shook his head like a big dog, water splashing everywhere, and wiped his face again, saying, "You didn't catch the Insect King, how can you be embarrassed to go ashore and be interviewed by reporters?"

"Ah?" Lan Yu was a little confused.

"With this image, are you embarrassed to go on the Star Network and be seen by those omegas?" Lu Rankong stretched out his hand and pointed at Lan Yu, then pointed at himself.

Lan Yu closed her eyes, tightly gripped the military boots in her hand, and controlled herself not to smash them towards his face.
