Chapter 100
In the nick of time, Dwayne shoved Carl aside, and the two fell to the ground. The bullet that missed Carl hit the ground, and the flying shell casing cut Aaron's arm, but fortunately the cut wasn't too big.
Everyone stared at Pete in shock; a stick had pierced his chest, and blood was gushing from his mouth.
Morgan shook off Pete and looked at Dwyane, panting, his expression one of confusion and pain.
Dwayne and Carl, having survived the ordeal, looked back at Pete with eyes full of fear, while Ron slumped beside Pete's body, lost in thought.
Sophia ran out from the side and anxiously pulled Carl and Dwayne up, asking, "Are you alright?"
“No, it’s nothing…” Carl glanced at Ron with a heavy heart.
"Sophia!" Carol rushed over and hugged Sophia with concern. "Are you alright?"
“It’s alright,” Sophia hugged Carol. “We let our guard down,” she said with some guilt, as they had become complacent because of Ron and Pete’s injuries.
"It's good that you're alright," Carol said, giving her a reassuring kiss on the forehead. "Make sure the children are all hidden. We'll come back for them after we've checked them out."
“Okay, Mom.” Sophia ran upstairs to tell everyone the good news. Carol looked in front of the house and saw Morgan. He hugged Dwayne in a panic.
She won't regret it. Those people deserve to die. She will do anything to protect her daughter and her family.
If this is her sin, then she shall pay for it after death, Carol said with a determined look in her eyes.
Morgan hugged Dwayne, a hint of regret rising in his heart. They had given Pete a chance, and then what?
He told the invaders the location of the armory and then attempted to harm the children after escaping.
Some people need a second chance, but do others really need one?
Was his decision not to kill really the right one?
Is it really impossible for a peaceful and civilized world to ever return?
Morgan held Dwayne in a daze, Lena's questioning voice echoing in his ears: would he really kill Dwayne?
"Dad?" Dwayne struggled to look up at Morgan, who was holding him too tightly, and looked up at him with some confusion.
Morgan looked at Dwayne, his lips moved but he didn't speak. He had seen Pete earlier, and he had seen him run away injured, but he had let him go, almost putting these children in danger. Looking at Dwayne's still somewhat fearful expression, Morgan couldn't bring himself to say anything.
“…I, I’m so sorry,” Morgan murmured to himself.
“No, Dad, you’ve done your best,” Dwayne said, unaware of Morgan’s thoughts, offering only words of comfort.
“…No, no, I’m so sorry,” Morgan said guiltily. He patted Dwayne on the shoulder and hugged his son again. He needed to think it over carefully, to think it over carefully…
Lena remembered that the walkers would enter Alexandria. Although she didn't know how they got in, she still had to be careful and prepare. But when she woke up, it was already the next day, and no walkers had entered.
Lina was a little confused. Where was her RPG?
Upon inquiring, I learned that Daryl hadn't returned yet, so her RPG was still on its way. However, the surrounding walls were still quite sturdy, and while there were indeed quite a few walkers surrounding the walls, there weren't too many, so it wasn't a significant threat.
Lina was somewhat worried. Where did the walkers in Alexandria come from?
After much deliberation, I decided to go out and kill the zombies. Once I've killed them all, they won't be able to come in anymore.
Having made up her mind, Lina picked up the knife beside her, sheathed it, and then pushed open the door to the infirmary. She'd been having quite a bit of a run for her money lately.
"Where are you going?" Dennis was a little dumbfounded as he looked at Lina, who was all ready to go. Wasn't she going to rest for a bit? Really not?
“Get to work,” Lina said, then walked toward the door.
"No! You need to rest!" Dennis paused for a moment, then quickly chased after him. "You got 12 stitches yesterday!"
“It’s less than I expected,” Lina said, somewhat surprised. “I’m so sad that I can’t wear clothes that show my midriff anymore.” Lina pouted. “Oh well, in this world, I’d better cover myself up.” Lina’s feelings were complicated as she thought of Dale.
“I’m a doctor, you should listen to the doctor,” Dennis said, somewhat exasperated.
“I didn’t go through the admission process,” Lina made a face at Dennis and ran off.
"Hey! Watch out for your wound!" Dennis was completely dumbfounded. Was it really that fierce?
If love can heal pain, then for Lina now, it's anxiety that heals pain. The zombie invasion is a serious matter, and since she's not going to die anytime soon, she can prioritize.
"Lina!" Tara looked down at Lina in surprise. Lina and Eugene were standing on the watchtower observing the walkers below. "Why aren't you resting? Wait, what are you doing?"
Lina looked up, shielding her eyes from the glaring sun, and asked Tara, "Come down and help me close the door?"
"What? No!" Tara exclaimed in shock.
"Tara!" Eugene suddenly called out. He tugged at Tara, who looked over in confusion. Spencer was climbing out with a rope.
Lina was stunned. How come someone stole her job? No, is he just giving it away for free?
There was no time to think too much; saving lives was the priority. Lena climbed onto the nearby observation deck, bumping into Rick and Tobin along the way, who were also rushing to help Spencer.
Not knowing what had happened, Lina saw that Rick's hand was bandaged, probably because he had been injured before. Fortunately, Lina and Rick each took one hand, one carefully pulling on the injured hand while the other carefully pulled on the stomach, and they managed to pull Spencer up.
Spencer was a little embarrassed. He glanced at his feet. "I've lost a shoe."
“You shouldn’t have acted recklessly,” Rick said angrily to Spencer, “The few zombies that had been gathered together because of the gunshot, and some even appeared from not far away. “You should have told me first.”
"Will you listen?" Spencer looked at Rick defiantly. "I just want to jump out, get in that car, and distract the walkers!"
Rick licked his upper lip and glanced at Spencer with annoyance.
Lena rolled her eyes. "Use your brain," she said, giving him a disdainful look. "We're already in enough trouble. We don't need you to make things worse. Go back to your parents. They need your company right now."
“You have the nerve to say that about others,” Rick immediately turned to Lena. “Dennis said you didn’t follow the doctor’s orders and ran out of the infirmary.” Rick was lecturing her when he saw Tara across from him. “And you, Tara, you should prioritize your own safety!”
"What?" Tara looked incredulous. She tried to save someone but ended up saving the wrong person? Tara gave Rick the middle finger.
Seeing this, Lina followed suit. Rick glared at Lina, and Lina reluctantly lowered her disrespectful middle finger. Tara was standing far away, but Lina was right in front of her.
“Back at the infirmary, I need to reinforce the walls. Don’t make me personally escort you back,” Rick said.
"No, I want to get out. There aren't many walkers outside. We should fight our way out and wipe them all out," Lina said.
“Lina, the plan wasn’t entirely successful. A significant number of walkers haven’t been lured away. They’re still lingering around. If we make a big commotion now, they’ll gather around, and things won’t be like this anymore,” Rick sighed, rubbing his temples. “There aren’t many walkers right now, and they can still provide cover. Let’s keep quiet, and they’ll leave in a while…”
“What if they get in?” Lina frowned. “Look at these people, they won’t survive.”
Tobin, standing to the side, looked somewhat embarrassed.
“There’s nothing wrong with the wall, Lina,” Rick insisted. “You can check it again around the wall if you don’t believe me.”
Lina bit her lip in frustration. She didn't know what was going on. Alexander was supposed to perform the necromancy, so Rick had no reason to lie to her...
“Let’s go, or we can go reinforce it together,” Rick said after thinking for a moment. It was better to leave it under his nose, otherwise it would run away again.
“…Okay,” Lina had a feeling of danger, but she didn’t know where it came from. She’d wait for Daryl and Mor to come back; they would definitely distract the walkers then.
Lena nervously followed Rick down from the watchtower to continue the reinforcement work. During this time, Deanna came to thank them, but Lena listened absentmindedly to her conversation with Rick.
What exactly happened?
"...What's that?" A string of green balloons floated up in the sky. Lina looked up in confusion. Maggie came running up from not far away, panting. "It must be Glenn, it must be him!"
Her eyes were red and swollen, clearly from crying many times. Lina suddenly looked up at the green balloon. The balloon... the house...
Lina's eyes widened as the wooden tower at the entrance slowly collapsed, crashing down onto the surrounding walls!
FUK!
Is this how you play it?
"Back up! Everyone back inside your houses!" Rick shouted, waving his hands to signal people to leave immediately.
"No! We all have to back off!" Deanna said as she fired her gun.
"I'm really fed up," Lina thought, her manpower scattered and equipment incomplete. Frustrated, she drew her knife and ran towards Maggie. Maggie's condition was not right, and she had to protect her.
"Rick! Take everyone to get guns!" Lina shouted, then ran towards Maggie. The commotion from the tower's collapse was so great that not only were all the walkers at the entrance drawn to it, but a steady stream of walkers were also arriving.
They grabbed Maggie and carried her to the watchtower. Lina then climbed up, but thankfully the zombie's limbs were stiff enough that she couldn't climb up.
"Oh my god..." Maggie collapsed to the ground. Where's Glenn? Is he alright? Where are Dad and Beth? So many walkers...
Maggie was so panicked she could hardly breathe. "Don't worry," Lina knelt down and took Maggie's hand. "We'll all be alright, and they'll all be alright too."
Maggie looked at Lina and nodded with tears in her eyes. "I'm out of bullets, what should we do?" After calming down, Maggie began to discuss with Lina.
"Is this the dagger for you?" Lina, who wasn't a gun enthusiast, asked hesitantly.
“I have a knife,” Maggie said with a worried look at the zombies surrounding them on the ground. There were too many of them to go down.
"We need to think of something; this platform won't hold up." It's just a dilapidated wooden platform; with so many zombies, it'll collapse sooner or later.
The two looked at each other, at a loss for what to do.
"Oh well, I'll just kill as many as I can," Lina sighed, drew her longsword, and lay down on the platform. Fortunately, the zombies were rather stupid and couldn't dodge the sword, so Lina stretched out her arm and used the length of the sword to painstakingly kill the zombies around her.
I've never fought such a humiliating battle.
