Chapter 110
With Maggie as her protector, Lina couldn't do anything no matter how angry she was. They talked for a long time inside, and Rick had to ask for Lina's consent first.
“They have food, we don’t,” Rick looked earnestly at Lina. “We can do it, and no one will get hurt…”
“No, Rick, you’re starting a war,” Lina said irritably. “Don’t you even understand the importance of knowing your enemy? That bearded gay guy has no idea where Negan is or how many people he has.”
Jesus raised an eyebrow. Had he become that unlikable?
“He’s seen at most twenty people. Assuming they have two teams targeting those two camps, there would be at most forty to fifty people,” Rick said.
“What if there are more? What if they have hundreds of people?” Lena looked at Rick with disappointment. “Can you guarantee that you killed Negan? Do you even know what he looks like?” Lena laughed in exasperation. “He dares to force people to pay tribute, which means he has the confidence. In this world, without a lot of people and resources, where does the confidence come from? If I had enough people, do you think I would let you know who I am?” Lena could only hint at Rick indirectly.
“Everyone is me, and I am anyone. I will not appear in public, but I can constantly send out my subordinates. That is the way of a smart person.”
"Just like governing a country, I don't need to handle every single thing in every place personally. Instead, I delegate it to my subordinates. I only need to manage my subordinates."
“You mean, Negan isn’t here?” Jesus frowned.
"Then tell me, how did he threaten you?" Lina retorted.
“They beat Rory to death right in front of us,” Jesus said.
"What should we use?" Lina pressed.
“A baseball bat.” Jesus didn’t understand why Lina was curious about this.
"Baseball bat?" Glenn suddenly felt something was off. Hadn't Lena told him to stay away from people carrying baseball bats?
"..." Lina found it strange. Negan shouldn't be here, right? Why is he still using a baseball bat?
“…They’re trying to intimidate us, but I disagree. We’re not that bad off yet,” Lina insisted.
“They’ll come after us sooner or later,” Daryl couldn’t help but say.
"Then let's wait until we find them," Lina said impatiently.
“No, we can’t just sit here and wait to be killed, letting them share in our spoils. No, Lina, I’ve decided, I will definitely deal with the Saviors, and not just the deal.” Rick pinched the bridge of his nose. He didn’t know what made Lina so terrified, but he wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by.
"Are you ordering me around?" Lina looked at Rick angrily.
“No, Lina,” Rick said, hands on his hips, “you don’t have to get involved.”
Lena scoffed, "Fantastic." She turned and left. She couldn't stop Rick, because if she didn't know how powerful Negan's team was, she would have charged in without a second thought.
But now, how can she tell them that she has no evidence and that everything she said might be a lie they made up to stop them from spreading it?
"Lina, Lina!" Daryl grabbed her. "Don't do this..."
"I don't want to talk to you. Stay away from me before I say anything worse!" Lina angrily shook off Daryl's hand.
“You can’t just leave us without giving us any reason,” Daryl said helplessly, trying to reason with Lina.
"What do you mean I didn't give you a reason? They don't even know how many people are in the Salvation Army, or what kind of organization it is. How dare you strike first?" Lina glared angrily at Daryl. "This is a foolish suicide mission!"
“I don’t think so,” Daryl said. “They’re just a bunch of bandits. Haven’t we dealt with enough of them?” He looked at Lina with a puzzled expression. “You weren’t like this before. This isn’t like you.”
"You've never been this afraid when facing the governor, or when facing the ogres, Lina, why?"
“Because, Negan, Negan he,” Lena felt a headache coming on and fainted, clutching her head.
"Lina!" Daryl exclaimed in surprise, quickly picking up Lina. The others rushed over as well. "What happened?" Michonne asked worriedly.
“No, we were just talking when she suddenly fainted,” Daryl said anxiously. “Where is the doctor?”
“Come with me,” Jesus ran over. “Maggie, Gregory is looking for you. Come on.”
Harlan was checking the medicine cabinet in the infirmary, preparing the equipment for Maggie's ultrasound later, when a commotion broke out at the door and Daryl burst in carrying Lena.
"What's wrong?" Harlan stepped forward and lifted Lina's eyelids; she had fainted.
“I was just talking when I suddenly passed out,” Daryl said.
"Is she having a headache?" Harlan asked.
“It looks like she rubbed her temples,” Daryl said.
“I was thinking on my way here that I’ve met her before; a few years ago, my brother was one of her doctors,” Harlan said. “So there’s nothing I can do about her problem.”
“What do you mean by being powerless?” Daryl grabbed Harlan by the collar. “Aren’t you a doctor?”
"Calm down!" Jesus and Rick quickly stopped Daryl.
“Let me finish,” Harlan rubbed his neck and took a breath. “She suffered a head injury in a car accident, and there were blood clots inside. In addition, she was stimulated, so her family found a very skilled hypnotist to assist in the treatment.”
"Hypnosis?" Rick was somewhat surprised.
“That’s right, I heard it from my brother. Her mental state was very bad, so her family had her hypnotized to forget those painful memories,” Harlan said. “As for the blood clot in her brain, I’ve only heard my brother mention it. The specifics, whether it has dissipated or shifted, are not my area of expertise. Logically speaking, if there haven’t been any problems for so many years, perhaps it has already dissipated?”
“But she’s passed out!” Daryl yelled in frustration.
"Maybe it was because you guys angered him? Provoked him?" Harlan guessed helplessly.
Rick and Glenn exchanged bewildered glances. Were they really that angry?
“We’ll go back after Maggie finishes talking,” Rick said, remembering that Dennis was studying psychology.
Maggie quickly finalized the deal and rushed to the infirmary. Glenn whispered the current situation to her, and Maggie looked worriedly at the unconscious Lina.
“Lie down,” Harlan patted the recliner. “You’re the first person to use this so far.”
Rick and his group went outside to organize the supplies, planning to return as soon as this was over.
Looking at the ultrasound images, Glenn and Maggie had mixed feelings; they had to do it for their child.
“By the way, could we get Lina an ultrasound too?” Maggie suddenly asked. “She was a little worried that she might not be able to get pregnant, and she hasn’t had her period in a long time.”
"Of course," since the equipment was already out, it was just a convenient thing to do.
“It’s a bit strange…” Harlan looked back and forth for a while. “Anyway, for now, I think she doesn’t need to worry about fertility. Everything is normal. If we want to be more certain, we’ll probably need to do some more in-depth tests.”
“I’ll tell her when she wakes up, thank you,” Maggie said.
"You're welcome," Harlan said with a smile.
Lina wasn't actually unconscious for long; she woke up before arriving in Alexandria. Daryl looked at her anxiously, "How are you? Are you alright?"
"No, my head hurts a little," Lina rubbed her temples.
"Are you really so angry with Daryl that you've lost your mind?" Maggie asked in shock.
“…No,” Lina said with a sour face, “it was all of you who made me angry.” Seeing the extra supplies in the car, Lina knew that the matter had been settled.
“…cough,” Maggie silently took out the ultrasound image in her hand, “Let me show you him.”
"...Can I say that I have absolutely no idea what this is?" Lina said sincerely to Maggie.
"It would be a miracle if you could tell now," Maggie said helplessly.
"About that matter," Lina handed the ultrasound scan to Maggie and continued the previous topic.
“…Um, we’re almost there,” Maggie quickly changed the subject, constantly giving Daryl meaningful glances.
“I mean, you guys can go if you want, I’ll go too,” Lina sighed. “I’ll keep watch outside.”
“…Okay.” Maggie nodded blankly. How come this changed so quickly?
"Are you sure?" Daryl asked, somewhat worried.
“Don’t talk to me, are you angry?” Lina glared at Daryl. “Go and give the ring to Rick. I think you two are the ones sleeping in the same bed.”
"..." Daryl looked at Lina helplessly.
“No!” Michonne, sitting in the front, said. “I disagree.”
“Hiss, Lina, I swear your dear Daryl and I are clean,” Rick joked back.
"Ha!" Lina sneered. "Michonne, let me tell you, there's a saying in my hometown: 'Brothers are like limbs, women are like clothes.' These two brothers are very close. Be careful, or they might switch us out!"
Michonne glanced at Rick teasingly, "Really?"
“That’s slander!” Rick shouted.
"Hmph!" Lina glared at the sulking Daryl, turned her back and lay down. She was tired and wanted to sleep.
“Don’t be angry,” Daryl sighed, squatted down by the bed behind her, poking Lina’s back as he whispered.
"Leave me alone, go away," Lina said angrily.
"Don't be angry," Daryl said, continuing to poke at him relentlessly.
"Is that all you can say?" Lina sat up and looked angrily at Daryl.
“…I was wrong?” Daryl thought for a moment and said.
"…Pah!" Lina angrily grabbed Daryl's hair and ruffled it. "If Rick and I fell into the river, who would you save?"
Dizzy from being shaken around, Daryl stared blankly at Lina. What was that question?
"I can swim!" Rick shouted, his hearing sharp despite driving.
“…” Daryl looked at Lina innocently.
"..." Tsk, let her get angry.
Lina angrily released Daryl, "Idiot!"
"I'll save you, of course I'll save you," Daryl practically swore.
"Pah, I don't believe you for a second. You're all talk and no action," Lina said angrily, grabbing Daryl's arm and biting him. "You're just like Rick, aren't you?"
Abraham and Glenn, who were watching the spectacle, were grimacing. Daryl had it tough too, and Lena's tantrums were quite annoying.
