Chapter 132

Chapter 132

Karl wasn't found, but one box of bullets she had hidden was missing. The kid went out; at least he remembered to take his ammunition.

Lina rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. With Daryl and Moore gone, the search work had to be left to her, but unfortunately, she had very little patience for tracking.

There's no other choice now.

"Hey! Rosita!" Rosita, who was also recovering from her injuries, was sitting in front of the door lost in thought when Lina called out from afar and waved to her, "Karl ran out! I'm going to find him!"

Rosita nodded to indicate that she understood, then put her hands to her mouth and shouted, "Do you want me to come with you?"

“No! Alexander needs someone to guard it!” Lina waved her hand, took the long knife Rick had given her, and walked out the door.

Lina couldn't remember where Karl had gone, so she could only wander around the vicinity; it shouldn't be too far to the left or right.

After circling around several times without seeing a soul, Lina reluctantly turned back, only to bump into Karl, who had slipped out on his way back.

Lina secretly followed behind him, intending to scare the running child. As she crept forward, she sensed something was amiss; there were other people nearby.

Lina changed direction and went around to find a disheveled homeless man following Karl furtively, a knife in his hand.

Lina drew her gun, no longer hiding it. "Put down your weapon, turn around, and kneel down."

The person in front of her was startled by Lina and turned to run, but Lina fired a shot into the sky. "Hurry!"

He finally dared not make any rash moves and obediently put down his weapon and knelt down as Lina had instructed.

Lina looked at him and felt he looked familiar, but he couldn't be a good person following Karl!

“Wait! Lina, don’t do this.” Karl said, glancing at the person kneeling on the ground before walking to Lina’s side. “He just needs help.”

"Huh?" Lina poked Karl's forehead with her finger, exasperated. "We're at war right now! Aren't you afraid of picking up a spy?"

That's a bit irresponsible, since the other side is full of undercover agents.

“But what if he isn’t?” Carl insisted. “Dad said the same thing to you, but that’s wrong. Are we going to give up on him just because we’re afraid? What’s the difference between that and killing him?”

“And I,” Carl paused for a moment, “have been thinking a lot lately about what my mother said: to do the right thing, even if it’s not so easy.”

Lina sighed, then looked at the person kneeling opposite her. "Name?"

“…Siddik,” he said somewhat fearfully, after all, Lina hadn’t put down the gun.

Carl rummaged through his bag and pulled out some food. "I just left some canned food at the gas station, I don't know if you saw it, but I also have some other food here." Carl tossed the packaged food and water over.

Lina carefully examined Siddiq. The name sounded familiar. Was he also an important character?

Ah! Rosita's harem!

We'll have to take it back with us.

I think she was a doctor?

Lina put away her gun and looked at Karl. Karl nodded. "I have a few questions for you."

Siddiq finished his thirsty drink, looked at Karl, hesitated for a moment, and nodded. "How many walkers have you killed? I can't remember..."

“236,” Siddiq said. “The margin of error is probably only two or three.”

Karl paused for a moment, then asked, "How many people have you killed?"

"One."

"Why?"

"The walkers wanted to eat him, but actually... they didn't."

Carl nodded, then looked at Lina, who shrugged. "I'm not taking the blame for this. You take it."

Karl looked at Siddiq with some helplessness. “We have a camp with quite a few people. Maybe you can join us, but that would have to be discussed by everyone. Also, we are currently at war with other camps. You can consider it.”

“I, I,” Siddiq was clearly at a loss, looking at Karl in shock, “I mean, of course I would.” There are not many people in this world who are willing to help others, and this child, whom he had wanted to help from the beginning, Siddiq wanted to give it a try.

“Alright, let’s go.” Carl’s lips curled into a smile, his mood improving. He thought of what Siddiq had said that day, ‘May my mercy triumph over my anger,’ and his mother’s dying words to him, ‘Do the right thing.’

War should not be just war, and they should never become bloodthirsty people.

The unlucky kid was grinning from ear to ear, and Lina pursed her lips, looking around warily. Karl was bitten when he was taking Siddiq back, but something about the timeline seemed off. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

“You have to promise me you won’t wander around alone again,” Lina couldn’t help but say.

“You didn’t say that before,” Karl blinked, looking at Lina in disbelief as if he had been betrayed by her.

“That’s different. The situation is tense lately,” Lina hesitated for a moment. “Besides, don’t forget that Sean might come to take Judith away. As her older brother, you have to protect your sister, right?”

That's true, but Karl thought it was safe inside Alexandria, so he relaxed his vigilance for a while.

“Sean might have sneaked in quietly, you know that best,” Lina said, after all, he was like a son to her.

“Okay, I won’t run around like this lately,” Carl didn’t want to entrust his sister to Sean; he was a member of the Salvation Army! Sean had changed, and he didn’t dare hand Judith over to him, even if…

"Your sister? How old is she?" Siddiq couldn't help but ask.

“He’s almost three years old,” Carl said.

"My God," Siddiq exclaimed in shock, a child born in the apocalypse? "Your mother...?"

“It was a difficult birth,” Carl said calmly.

“…I’m sorry,” Siddiq said awkwardly.

"Hey, what skills do you have?" Lina asked, changing the subject.

“I used to be a resident doctor, so…” Siddiq said to Lina somewhat nervously, after all, Lina had just pointed a gun at him fiercely.

“That’s right, doctors are a rare species these days,” Lina hugged Karl tightly. “You’ve done a great job!”

Karl adjusted his hat brim and smiled smugly. "But that's not what I'm after."

Lina ruffled Karl's hair through his hat, then looked at Siddiq, "Um, can you see a gynecologist?"

“…Um, I can try,” Siddiq stammered, “So it is…”

"Yes, there is a pregnant woman who might need your help. Her doctor has been arrested, and we are trying to bring him back, but... never mind, let's not talk about it. So, can you treat head injuries? I mean, if someone's head is violently injured and the external wounds have mostly healed, but they have a terrible headache that makes them feel like they're about to die, can you treat that?"

"Well, the brain is quite complex, but I can give it a try. It might require a lot of equipment and medicine," Siddiq said, implying that it was incurable.

“I’ll take care of the rest,” Lina said, letting go of Karl and walking over to Siddiq. She was very happy and patted him hard on the shoulder. “Young man, we still have a lot of medical books. Study them and it’s up to you!”

This is a huge profit! I'm bringing a talented person back with me!

"Shh!" Karl suddenly gestured, and the three of them quieted down and hid behind a tree. A deer darted out, and Lina was even happier when she saw it. These days, who would complain about having too much meat?

Lina fired two shots at the deer, then happily ran to the wounded deer and punched it unconscious. Carl took out a rope from his bag, and Lina tied the deer's legs to prevent it from waking up halfway. Then, to Siddiq's astonishment, she carried the deer on her shoulders.

"My God, no, it's too heavy, too heavy!" Lina has been having a particularly miserable time lately, and her physical strength isn't as strong as before. This deer is incredibly heavy!

"Hurry, let's go back!" Lina said; she couldn't hold on much longer!

“Okay,” Carl drew his gun and ran ahead to clear the way. The commotion had attracted a few zombies, and Carl swiftly took them out with his gun.

Siddiq only has a small dagger, and Lina will not lend her knife to this stranger. She can lend him a gun, but he is someone she just met. Even if she knows he is a good person, she should still be a little cautious. So, of the three, the only fighting force right now is Karl.

Fortunately, Carl was a seasoned veteran, and with Lina emphasizing speed and not to be stingy with bullets, Carl cleanly and efficiently dealt with many walkers along the way, and the three of them safely returned to Alexandria.

When Michonne opened the door, she saw three people and for a moment, she didn't know where to start asking (or scolding) them.

“It’s none of my business, he’s going to bring it back,” Lina said, throwing down the deer and pointing at Karl, panting.

Karl glanced at Lina speechlessly. No, although, did she really have to sell him so quickly?

“I asked him,” Carl said calmly to Michonne.

Michonne looked at Karl and Lena with a helpless expression. She smiled wearily and said, "Let's wait for your father and the others to come back before making a decision. You..." She looked at the person Karl had brought back. She didn't know who he was or what to call him.

“This is Siddiq, he’s a doctor,” Carl introduced.

Michonne raised an eyebrow, gave Lina a deep look, and then looked at Siddiq. “Hello, Siddiq, I’m Michonne. I’m afraid you’ll have to stay in the cell for a while. We need to make sure you’re harmless. But don’t worry, I’ll prepare food, water, and a pillow so you can get some rest there.”

Siddiq looked at the elderly and children in the community and nodded absently. He really had brought him to a wonderful place, a place full of hope.

“And the deer, we need to find a place to raise them. Do you think Dennis can treat the deer’s injuries? Oh no, we should have switched Dennis and Hershel. Alexander needs Hershel right now!” Lina said in frustration. The veterinarian’s skills were finally going to be put to good use, but they ended up at the mountain stronghold.

“You should let Hershel go. He’s worried about Maggie so much. How can he be at ease if he doesn’t keep an eye on her himself?” Michonne smiled at Siddiq and gestured for him to follow her. “Karl, go see your sister. Lina, take the deer to Beth and ask her to find you a place to raise them.”

“Okay—” Lina glanced at Karl beside her. He was too small and weak to be of any help, so she would do it herself.

Carl silently rubbed the muscles on his arms. He's still young, he'll grow into a strong man!

Alexander saw a peaceful scene, but the Church of the Saviors was already surrounded by walkers. Sean hid in a building not far from the Church of the Saviors. Fortunately, he acted quickly and ran away. If he had been any later, he would not have been able to escape.

When Rick and his men surrounded the Church of the Saviors, Sean sensed something was wrong. Rick had brought quite a few people, but not as many as the Saviors. Moreover, the Dixon brothers were nowhere to be seen. Sean was certain that Rick had a backup plan. In terms of numbers, the most numerous creatures in the world right now were the walkers. So, while Negan and the others were talking nonsense with Rick in front, Sean immediately ran out the back door.

After he ran away, the Saviour's Hall was thrown into chaos. Negan was surrounded by walkers and disappeared without a trace. Only five of Negan's trusted leaders remained: Simon, Regina, Gavin, Dwight, and Eugene.

Simon had his own plans, Dwight had already betrayed the Salvation Army, and Eugene realized that Dwight might be an undercover agent.

However, his suspicions lacked supporting evidence. On the contrary, Sean, who had been put in charge by Negan, suddenly disappeared, leading everyone to believe that he was the traitor.

Of those present, some hated him to death, but there was one person who was extremely grateful to Sean.

That is, as Daryl said (actually, Lena had Daryl relay the message), if necessary, the undercover identity could be passed on to Sean.

It's really useful.
