Chapter 142
Sean hated running through the woods. No, he hated running. He had been running all this time, escaping from the mouths of walkers, from Rick's men, from the Saviors. The running seemed endless.
But today, it all comes to an end.
Sean felt the warmth in his arms. As long as he escaped this time, he would never have to live like a stray dog again.
He heard the commotion coming from the mountain stronghold behind him. He wished it had been razed to the ground so no one would chase him, but he also heard footsteps getting closer and closer behind him.
Sean slid down the slope, covered Judith's mouth, and crawled into a small hole surrounded by tree roots. He listened nervously to the sounds above; it was the Salvation Army.
"Search separately."
"Negan said that the traitor's life or death is irrelevant."
Unsurprisingly, this is why Sean had to run. From the moment he helped Lena thwart Negan's plan, he knew he couldn't be exposed, or he would die.
Negan has his own set of rules, but they don't seem to work much for Lena, as he discovered when he was captured and branded on the face.
Something's not right.
Later, he got close to Laura and learned some things about Negan's early days. The madman had been to Chinatown in DC, a place almost full of walkers, and he just walked in and came out unscathed.
As for the reason, Laura only knew that he was going to find someone.
Sean's intuition told him it was her, and sure enough, Negan's later attitude toward Lena further proved it.
The footsteps faded into the distance. Sean emerged from the tree hollow and continued running forward, still holding Judith. This was the last time, the very last time.
Sean's eyes were filled with madness; as long as he left this place, everything would end.
A melodious whistle rang out, and Sean froze. Impossible, Negan and the others wouldn't be here!
"Hey, you bastard, put that kid down."
Sean relaxed completely, turned around, and saw the source of the whistle: Moore.
“I just don’t understand what benefits you get from working for Rick. This isn’t like Moore at all,” Sean said, surveying his surroundings. “I’m just taking my daughter away. Why are you picking on me? Moore, we don’t have any deep-seated hatred between us, do we?”
"You almost killed me, and you still don't have a deep-seated grudge?" Moore tightened his grip on the knife. Was he even speaking human language?
“So, let’s call it even. Now, just pretend you didn’t see me. You go your way, and I’ll go mine,” Sean said.
"Put her down," Moore said, not wanting to waste words with Sean. Was he being treated like a fool? He simply pulled out his pistol and held it at his waist with his left hand.
Sean pressed his tongue against the soft flesh inside his mouth, the madness in his eyes growing even darker.
He didn't want Judith to get hurt, so he had no choice but to obey Moore's words and slowly put Judith down. Fortunately, it was Moore who came after him; a cripple always has a lot of room to maneuver.
Of course, Moore was also aware of this problem. He couldn't use his right hand, so he could only use his left hand to hug Judith, which meant he would have to put the gun away, tsk.
However, even if it's difficult for Moore, he has to try. He can't just let him take the child away. They raised the little guy from scratch. Why should Sean steal him away? Does he deserve it?
Moore stared intently at Sean, slowly approaching him. Once close enough, he pointed a karate chop at him with his right hand, then put away the gun in his left hand and went to hug Judith.
The moment he put away his gun, Sean rammed into the tree behind him like an angry bull, then reached for the wound he had previously inflicted on Moore and ripped it open again.
Moore cried out in pain and slammed his knee into Sean's stomach, and the two began to wrestle.
"Here it is!"
Sean and Moore were stunned for a moment. They rolled on the ground and looked up. Judith was nowhere to be seen. Sophia had quietly taken Judith away and hid behind a tree. The child was still there, so the two were relieved. Then they saw the person who had spoken earlier, a Saviors.
Worse still, it seemed the Salvation Army was approaching, along with gunfire and the howls of the walkers.
"Run!" Moore shouted to Sofia.
"..." Sophia looked at Mor with a troubled expression. Mor's injuries had not yet healed, and if he stayed, he might die!
"Hurry up, don't hold me back!" Moore kicked Sean off him and reached for the gun at his waist. Sean also drew his gun, and the two faced off.
Two Salvation Army soldiers arrived, along with several walkers. Sean and Mor Khan attacked incessantly, and the three groups were hostile and wary of each other.
“We can talk. You can take him back and still get the reward. I’ll help you, and you let me go,” Sean said to the Salvation Army.
“No, there are three of us,” the other side clearly wasn’t going to negotiate. The two Saviors who came later dealt with the walkers they brought, and all three of them pointed their guns at Sean and Moore.
【Bang--】
【Bang--】
Sean and Moore simultaneously shot and killed two Saviors, then covered their heads and fled behind a tree. Seeing this, Sophia quickly picked up Judith and ran away. Her position was awkward, between Moore and the Saviors.
She was immediately spotted as she fled. Seeing this, Sean and Moore stopped fighting and drew their guns to cover Sophia's escape.
Although it's currently two against one, Sean and Moore each have their own ulterior motives, so the three of them are still holding each other back for the time being, and it seems like it won't end anytime soon.
Sean was on edge; if this dragged on any longer, he would be doomed, and no matter which side came, he wouldn't be able to escape!
【Bang--】
【Bang--】
Two gunshots rang out, accompanied by the cries of a child. Sean and Moore were jolted awake. Ignoring their desire to kill each other, they took out the remaining Saviors soldier and ran in the direction Sophia had gone.
"Damn it!" Moore was completely stunned. In the blink of an eye, a dozen or so zombies appeared and trapped Sophia on a boulder.
"Where's Judith? Where's Judith?" Seeing that the child was not in Sophia's hands, Sean felt his blood run cold. Despite being under the blazing sun, he couldn't help but tremble all over.
"..." Moore glanced at Sean, tsk, he really thinks he's a good father.
Regardless, Moore chose to deal with these zombies first, otherwise the endless stream of them would cause even more trouble.
Sean had no other choice; only Sophia knew Judith's whereabouts.
Sofia wasn't idle either; the three of them quickly dealt with half of the zombies.
"Where's Judith?" As soon as he could get close to the stone, Sean grabbed Sophia like a madman, ignoring the zombies around them. "Answer me, or I'll throw you over there!"
Sophia pursed her lips and glared at Sean. "...The tree hollow over there." She didn't want to say it at all, but she was afraid that some walkers would go over and hurt Judith.
Sean abandoned Sophia, but Moore was quick enough to catch her and then stabbed the walker to death, thus saving Sophia's life.
“Let’s go,” Moore frowned, and he and Sophia chased after Sean, with three or four zombies trailing behind them, but they didn’t have the energy to deal with them.
It was a small tree hole. Judith quietly huddled around it. The walkers surrounded the hole, but could only reach out and pat it. They were so crowded that they couldn't squeeze in at all.
Moore grabbed Sophia, and the two hid a short distance away, watching Sean's figure. He looked extremely anxious, took out his pistol, fired two shots, and then ran out of bullets. There were still two walkers left, and the walkers that Moore and Sophia hadn't killed earlier were also walking towards Sean.
Sean pulled out his dagger, intending to clear out the walkers, but was shot down by a burst of bullets and forced to flee in a sorry state.
"Traitor! Look at yourself! When you get back, we'll brand your penis onto the other half of your face!"
Damn it!
Sean lay prone on the ground. He dared not hide behind a tree, where Judith might be. He had to lure the walkers away and the Saviors away!
Despite Negan's constant nagging about children being the future, there are plenty of people in the Salvation Army who outwardly comply but inwardly resist, and quite a few have killed children; some even treat it as a game.
Chaos broke out. Mohr pressed Sophia down to hide even more. He was in bad shape, and going out rashly would only lead to his death, especially with a child with him. It was a dangerous situation.
If anything happens to Sophia, that white-haired old woman will go crazy; if anything happens to Judith, Rick will go crazy too. What a tragedy! I should have gone out with him today instead of carrying around two hot potatoes.
Sean didn't want to die, but the other side didn't give him a chance to catch his breath. He didn't have time to reload, so he could only turn around and leave first. After the gunfire faded away, Moore and Sophia carried Judith out of the tree hole and quickly left the place.
Not long after running back, Moore was suddenly knocked away by Sean again. Sean looked very disheveled, with several bullet holes in his body, but he kept beating Moore relentlessly. Sophia had no choice but to put Judith down and pulled out her gun. "Stop!"
Sean's fist froze in mid-air. He glared at Sophia and sneered, "What, Sophia, are you going to shoot me? Do you dare? Why don't you go back and play with your dolls?"
Sean released the dazed Moore, dragged his limping leg, and stared intently at Sophia like a hungry wolf with gleaming green eyes, as he walked towards her step by step.
Sophia was startled. Although she knew Sean had changed, this version of Sean was really frightening. She couldn't hide her fear and unconsciously started to back away.
"What? Your gun's out of bullets?" Sean said sarcastically.
Sophia steadied herself and fired a shot at Sean's feet. "Back off!"
Moore had just given her new bullets to replenish her ammunition, and now her gun was full.
Sean's right eye twitched uncontrollably. He gritted his teeth and slowly backed away, very slowly, since dealing with a little girl was much easier than dealing with that bastard Moore.
Just as he was about to pounce, Sophia's expression changed drastically, "Judith!"
