Chapter 26
"What are you going to do to me? Send me far away?" Sean sneered. "I know how to get back, but that won't work. You'd better kill me, or I'll crawl back and kill you."
Lina rolled her eyes. "Yes,"
“I just don’t understand why you’re always picking on me,” Sean said, looking at Lina with disgust.
“Hey, Sean, I killed that brat, I’m on your side.” Moore grinned obsequiously, his old face beaming with delight.
Lina gave Mor a disdainful look. What a fence-sitter!
“You know I have no grudge against you,” Moore said.
“Yes, you tapped me on the back twice,” Sean said, annoyed.
“It’s because of her,” Moore said, pointing at Lina. “I had no choice. I have a younger brother, and he’s been hooked up with her. I had no other option.”
“…How about I do you a favor? I’ll kill her, then we’ll go back. You can take your brother and leave, or I can stay,” Sean said, looking at Moore. It was two against one, and his leg wasn’t fully healed yet. This wasn’t a good idea. Moore wasn’t a good partner, but he had a low bottom line.
“I agree,” Mordred readily agreed, any hesitation was an act of mercy towards Lina. “I’ve wanted to take Daryl away for a long time, you know that.” Mordred said ominously.
Very good, now the two of them are looking at Lina.
"Oh, this is really great," Lina rolled her eyes helplessly.
Moore grabbed Lina with his iron arm, making it almost impossible for Lina to put her feet on the ground, and her whole face turned red.
"Looking for a walker?" Moore asked nervously. "They might catch up."
Sean glanced at her. "Take her into the woods." Sean pointed his gun at Moore, signaling him to go first.
Moore, with Lina in his arms, walked to Sean's side, slowly passing him, intending to head towards the woods.
In the blink of an eye, Moore released Lena and shoved Sean into the car. Lena, barely able to catch her breath, snatched Sean's gun, and Moore and Sean began to struggle. Moore, with only one hand, was no match for Sean.
Lena picked up the gun and smashed it into the back of Sean's head.
"Go to hell, you two—" Sean collapsed again, feeling dizzy.
Just in case, Lina punched Sean twice more.
The two men awkwardly dragged Sean into the car, locked the doors, and Moore expertly fiddled with the doors to ensure Sean couldn't unlock them normally.
Lena then used her motorcycle to tow over several abandoned cars from the side and used them to block the car that was locked up with Sean.
If she had the tools, Lina would have loved to weld the car window shut.
Her plan seemed to be neither to kill Sean nor to let him live.
It seems that God is still looking out for Sean. Lena could only do what she could to prevent Sean from escaping so easily, but also to prevent him from being completely trapped inside the car.
After finishing these tasks, the two pushed Daryl's motorcycle and headed back.
"What if he wakes up tomorrow morning?" Moore asked, panting. Although the road ahead was almost completely blocked, Sean might still be able to drive his car out if he woke up.
"We can only leave it to fate," Lina said, but she quickly opened the car's gas tank and pumped all the fuel into the motorcycle.
Try your best to make sure not a single drop is left.
The two rode their motorcycle back home, and on the way they ran into Rick and Daryl, who were looking for them.
Daryl got out of the car and hugged Lina. "Are you alright?" He lifted Lina's chin. "What happened?" Her neck was flushed red.
“It’s nothing,” Lina said without saying anything.
Daryl looked at Moore, who turned his head away guiltily. Daryl knew him too well; even Lina could tell he wanted to run away, so how could he not see it?
But he's back, and that's enough.
Daryl hugged Moore, who was a little stunned, and after a long while, he hugged her back.
"Where's Sean?" Rick asked Lina, puzzled.
“Let’s go,” Lina said.
"What?" Rick looked at Lina in disbelief.
“But let’s not worry about that,” Lina said, pushing Rick toward the car. “He can’t stay anyway.”
Rick was silent for a moment. "Are you sure he left?" He looked at Lina seriously.
"..." Lina sighed, "Actually, we knocked him unconscious and locked him in a safe place. When he wakes up, he'll leave on his own, that's all."
Rick looked at Lena and Moore with a conflicted expression. "I...we can't..." Rick was very conflicted. He couldn't abandon Sean, but he had no choice. Sean staying would definitely not be a good outcome.
“Let him go,” Lina said, holding Rick’s hand. “He tried to kill you. You two fought like that. Can you pretend nothing happened? You know, these things can’t be covered up anymore.”
Rick lowered his head in silence, sighed, and got into the car. "Let's go back."
At the farm, Dale stared at Glenn in shock as he heard him say that Randall had been killed by Moore.
He shook his head helplessly, carried his spear, and went alone to the barn. As soon as he opened the door, a zombie pounced on him.
Dell was stunned. How could this be?
He fought back with all his might, but the zombie Randall ripped open his stomach.
By the time Glenn and the others arrived, Dale was already beyond saving.
"What's wrong?" As soon as she stopped the car, Lina saw people gathered in front of the barn, and she had a bad feeling.
“Let’s go take a look.” Rick sped up and drove straight to the barn. They saw Herschel shaking his head at them regretfully, with Dale’s abdomen torn open behind him.
“No,” Lina said, taking a step back.
"How could this be?" Moore exclaimed in shock. "He wasn't bitten!"
Rick felt too guilty to look at Dale. He tried to calm his breathing and raised his gun with trembling hands.
It was his fault; he should have finished off the enemy before leaving.
Daryl took Rick's gun and saw Dale off.
Everyone stood there, stunned. The matter they had been arguing about for so long had been resolved so unexpectedly, and they had even taken Dell with them.
Lena left the crowd with a guilty conscience. If she hadn't insisted on sending Sean away, perhaps this wouldn't have happened. Moore wouldn't have killed anyone, and Dale wouldn't have died. What was she doing?
Lina took two steps forward. In the dim moonlight, she saw zombies emerging from the distant woods—one, two, three…
The horde of zombies has arrived ahead of schedule!
"Rick! The horde is coming!" Lina shouted, and everyone turned to look at the woods, where a dark, swarming horde of zombies staggered toward the farm.
"Hurry! Food, fuel, weapons, we have to hurry!" Lina shouted.
“No, this is my farm, I’m not going anywhere!” Herschel shouted.
Lina walked over and gave him a light tap. "Now, pack your things, only take the important ones. Everyone, get in the car!"
The farm fell faster than expected, but everyone acted faster than expected. Except for Otis, who died on the farm while covering Patricia and the others, everyone else escaped.
They lost their temporary safe haven, but thankfully everyone is still alive.
At least most people are.
Herschel was furious when he woke up, but he fell silent after learning of Otis's death.
They embarked on another long road to survival.
Due to the gasoline shortage, everyone had to stop. They could spend the night in the RVs, where the women and children crammed in, while the rest of the people made do against the low wall. The atmosphere at night was very somber.
Living in the wild made everyone very nervous, especially since they had just seen such a large horde of corpses.
A campfire was lit in the evening, and everyone heated up some canned food and shared it. At least Lina could have something hot to eat, and she was already quite content.
"That Randall, he wasn't bitten." Moore brought up the subject, puzzled. Could it be that his knife wasn't clean?
“We’re all infected,” Rick said, finally revealing a secret that had been weighing on his mind for a long time.
“What Jenner at the CDC told me was that whatever it was, we were all carriers.”
Everyone was stunned, and they used this opportunity to unleash their tension on Rick.
“You didn’t know? You’re really lucky,” Lina patted Daryl on the shoulder, signaling him not to be so nervous.
"You know?" Moore looked at Lina.
"Of course, isn't that common sense?" Lina asked, puzzled. "I found out in just one month. You guys are really lucky."
"..." Everyone's emotions were suddenly suppressed, and they looked at each other, not knowing what to say.
“They’ll come back once they die, so be careful not to suffocate in your sleep at night, that would be a nightmare,” Lina frowned.
After finishing their meal in silence, no one was in the mood to speak. Carol quietly approached Lina and Daryl, "We..."
"Shh," Lina covered her mouth, "Rick is fine, go take care of Sophia."
Releasing her hand, Carroll couldn't help but say, "We need a noble leader."
“Rick is very noble,” Daryl said.
However, being in the wild still made everyone tense. Beth began to feel afraid, and more and more people began to feel fear about the outside environment.
Rick was furious. In his view, aimless running around was suicide, and the group's fear had clouded their judgment.
He angrily recounted the agony of abandoning Sean and letting him leave, and the difficulties of uniting everyone to survive. Finally, he said, "If you want to stay, then don't expect democracy."
Lena watched Rick grow up, and he became more and more like the leader he would become, but also more and more tired.
She didn't know what else she could do. She thought of Sean, then looked at Patricia, Jimmy, Amy, Andrea, Sophia, and Moore. Everything before her was the result of her efforts to change things.
