Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Neither Lena nor Daryl are people who like to sleep in late; they're just high-energy individuals.

The blinding sunlight shone on their eyelids, leaping and waking them up in the morning.

Lina yawned, staring blankly into the void. The two of them stared blankly for a moment, then Lina yawned again, as if a switch had been flipped, and the two of them started to move.

Lina sat on the floor, looking for her clothes as she glanced at Daryl, who swayed his shoulders uncomfortably.

It was her fault, but who can blame her when Daryl was so comfortable to sleep on?

As Lina dressed, she continued to stare at Daryl.

Daryl's hair always looked neatly framing his face, but Lina's hair, which was slightly longer than his, was different.

Lina scratched her messy, frizzy hair. A grown man with smoother hair than her, tsk.

It's okay, he'll go bald sooner or later.

Lina thought to herself, her mind narrow-mindedness piqued.

Daryl, who had put on his shirt, glanced at Lina. She had been messing with her hair for a while but hadn't managed to fix it properly; in fact, she had pulled out quite a bit. He gently slapped away Lina's rough hand, and then gently ran his fingers through her hair, smoothing it out and tying it into a small bun.

In a great mood, Lina turned around generously, hugged Daryl, and gave him a kiss. But as they kissed, things started to get a little awkward between them.

People are more prone to impulsiveness in the morning.

Lina groggily came to her senses and found that the clothes she had just put on had been almost completely stripped off. Although she hadn't taken them off, they were no longer in their original positions.

"...You'd better hurry up and go find some condoms," Lina muttered as she straightened her clothes. Daryl just sat there watching her without moving.

After tidying up and putting her knife on her back, Lina glanced at Daryl, who had been sitting on the ground for a while, and decided not to provoke him. She didn't want to be teased by those guys later. Lina stood far away and blew Daryl a kiss before walking down from the watchtower.

She gathered firewood, fetched water, and even picked some wild vegetables along the way.

Foreigners can't match their skill in foraging for wild vegetables!

Oh, so she's a foreigner now?

Who cares?

Lina returned to the prison's iron fence with her belongings. Scattered zombies surrounded her. Suddenly, she remembered something, put down what she was carrying, and pulled out a long knife.

After their arms and jaws were cut off, the zombies immediately became docile, wandering around aimlessly without any aggression.

The smell of zombies can mask the smell of the living. Prisons are suitable for living, but they are not easy to defend. The surrounding area is too open, and someone like the governor can easily launch an encirclement.

Dig a ditch? Lina stomped her foot on the ground. There were so few of them, and the prison was so big. This would be exhausting and too taxing.

This gave Lina a headache, and the main reason the prison fell was that tank.

This is absolutely outrageous! Why do they have tanks?

Lina cursed under her breath as she carried her things inside. If things went this way, she would definitely kill the governor, which made her start to feel anxious.

She wanted to live in the prison, not only because it was a good place to survive, but also because leaving here meant going to Alexandria, which was too close to the Salvation Army!

Even the governor was at a loss for how to solve the problem. Good heavens, the Salvation Army?

Even if she could persuade Rick not to provoke the Saviors, they would eventually find Alexander's location. There were too many of them, and they would definitely run into him when they went out to search for supplies.

So she didn't want to leave the prison. She wished she could spend the rest of her life in prison. At least the Salvation Army wouldn't come all the way from afar to attack the prison, right?

"Lina? Lina? Lina?!" Rick called out three times in a row, but Lina remained unresponsive, mechanically walking back while still holding her things.

He glanced at Daryl, who shrugged blankly. "Hey! Little Na!"

Lina continued walking forward with her head down, while Moore rolled his eyes and slapped her on the back of the head.

"Oh F&%K!" Lina clutched her head and crouched down. "This is murder!"

“You’re still trying to kill yourself,” Moore said.

“Even though it’s relatively safe here, you can’t let your guard down, you know?” Rick said to Lina with a sigh.

"Sorry," Lina said, rubbing her head sheepishly.

"What are you thinking about?" Daryl asked, frowning.

“I’m thinking,” Lina pointed outside, “we need to build some defenses. If someone surrounds us from the outside, we’re dead, or they’ll send a truckload of zombies crashing through the fence…”

“You must read a lot of horror stories,” Moore said.

"Be prepared for danger in times of peace, don't you understand?!" Lina glared at Moore. "This is very likely to happen. We won't be the only survivors. What if those people have a lot of powerful weapons, guns, cannons, tanks, and stuff like that..."

Rick glanced at Carol, and the two of them laughed helplessly, finding the idea increasingly absurd.

“I understand, Lina. I’ll figure something out, I promise,” Rick said, turning to Lina with a serious expression after a moment of laughter. “We’ll protect this place, don’t worry too much.”

Lina glanced at Rick as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she didn't say anything.

“Are you here to help us move the body out and burn it?” Carol asked.

“Who else but me?” Lina picked up the things that had fallen to the ground. “I’ll be right there after I put these things down.” She jogged into the cell.

“Where are Glenn and Maggie?” Rick asked.

“On the watchtower,” Daryl said, raising his eyebrows and pointing in the direction of a watchtower.

"A watchtower?" Rick was taken aback. "They went up there last night?"

Daryl raised his hand to his mouth, "Glenn! Maggie!"

In the distance, one could vaguely see the figures of people hurriedly standing up in the glass of the watchtower.

"What's up, guys?" Glenn asked awkwardly as he fastened his belt and walked out.

Lina ran out and saw this scene, as well as Maggie with her afro behind her.

A scene that felt strangely familiar.

“Are you coming? Youing?” Daryl asked, and everyone laughed.

"Huh?" Glenn was embarrassed.

“Are you coming or not?” Daryl asked again, and Lina, suppressing a laugh, ran over.

Glenn glanced at Maggie, so stiff he didn't even know how to fasten his belt.

"Hurry up, we're short-handed." After teasing Glenn enough, everyone turned around with a smile, knowing they still had a lot to do.

"Okay, we'll go down right away..." Glenn said hurriedly.

Lina hugged Daryl's arm and laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight. "You're so naughty."

Moore glanced at Lina and Daryl. "Don't think I don't know you two were on the watchtower last night." He looked at another watchtower.

Rick turned to look at the two of them. "Really?" No wonder he didn't see Daryl on the platform when he woke up last night.

Lina glared at Moore. "Can't you find something else to have fun with? Stop staring at Daryl!"

Mohr snorted. He thought to himself, the initiative wasn't in his hands, and with one or two of them taking over the watchtowers, he had nowhere to go!

Rick glanced at Daryl, who awkwardly looked away.

Lina grinned at Rick and then took off running.

“…What else can I say?” Rick said helplessly. He wasn’t going to eat her.

“Old-fashioned nagging?” Carol shrugged.

Rick pursed his lips.

The movement of the bodies was mainly done by the able-bodied people, while Moore was the only one who was isolated here, because he was missing a hand.

Moore was in charge of keeping watch and dealing with the walkers who came after hearing the commotion.

They had originally planned to work for a whole day, but they finished in half a day, even though they were all exhausted.

Lina, who had exerted a lot of effort, seemed to be doing well, but kept clutching her stomach and complaining of hunger.

"Let's go back and eat. We'll cook these later," Rick said, panting.

Back in the room, Patricia and the others had already prepared the meal, and the entire cell looked much tidier and cleaner.

“Come quick, Patricia made pancakes,” Amy waved to Lina, holding a plate.

Lina made a happy dash; the pancakes were made with canned meat and the wild vegetables Lina had brought back that morning, and they were absolutely delicious.

“We don’t have much oil left, so we probably won’t have any more to eat later,” Amy said, handing two large pancakes to Lina. Lina grabbed one in each hand and stuffed them into her mouth; she was so hungry she was seeing stars.

"Wait!" Amy exclaimed, startled. "There's other food too!"

“She was exhausted all morning,” Rick smiled helplessly. “We moved all the bodies out; Lena carried them herself, and she did most of the work.”

"My goodness, how strong are you?" Amy exclaimed.

“It’s a bit illogical, but I don’t know why,” Lina said, wolfing down her food, which startled Patricia so much that she brought her another bowl of soup.

However, Lina suspects it's a cheat code that allows for rebirth?

“I want to be like you too,” Sophia said, looking at Lina with longing eyes. Strongmen are so cool.

"Then you'd better work out more." Carol ruffled Sophia's hair.

“Physical fitness is indeed very important,” Lina nodded in agreement. After finishing the two pancakes, she breathed a sigh of relief, finally feeling alive again.

“Here you go,” Andrea handed two more to Lina.

Lina was a little surprised. "Thanks."

Andrea turned away calmly to wash the dishes.

“She’s still angry,” Amy whispered. Ever since she found out that Lina and Moore had secretly thrown Sean away, she hadn’t been paying much attention to the two of them.

"I can tell," Lina whispered, not caring about the pancakes, but knowing that Andrea was a good person.

“She won’t be angry for long, maybe,” Amy continued in a low voice.

“I could see that too,” Lina nodded in agreement as she swallowed the last bite of her pancake.

"My God," Amy glanced at Lina, "is your mouth a two-dimensional pocket?" Two pancakes in the time it takes to say one sentence?

Lina looked at Amy innocently and blinked.

Amy sighed and took two more pieces from her plate and gave them to Lina. "Eat up, little pig."

Lina accepted the pancake without hesitation and showed it off wildly.

“I’m going hunting in a bit,” Daryl said, moving closer to Rick as he looked at Lina.

There was nothing urgent in the afternoon. Rick thought for a moment and nodded. "Be careful."

Daryl nodded, handed the plate to Lina, and turned to leave.

Lena glanced at Daryl's back and thought, "Tsk, does he think he looks cool like this?"

He casually placed the food in front of her, without saying a word or giving her a glance, then turned and left, leaving her with only his aloof back view.

Wow, he's really handsome.

Lina picked up the pancake from Daryl's plate and continued showing it off.
