Chapter 35

Chapter 35

It turns out that you should never take chances; you never know when life will come up and hit you hard.

Exhausted from a morning's work, Lina returned to her cell and saw the swordswoman tied to the bars. Only one word came to her mind: It's over!

Lina stared blankly as Rick interrogated the woman, everything in front of her spinning, the sounds around her hazy and indistinct. She seemed unable to find the meaning in her efforts, as if everything would always follow a predetermined path.

They will all die.

Patricia, Herschel, Amy, Andrea, Oscar, Axel, Mohr, Beth, Carl, Glenn...

Everyone will die.

Lina felt colder than ever before. She could hear her teeth chattering and making a loud clattering sound. She huddled up and hugged herself. It was so cold.

“Lina?” Daryl looked at Lina with suspicion. Something was wrong with her. “Hehe! Look at me, look at me, okay?” Daryl threw down his weapon, grabbed Lina’s shoulders, and bent down to try to calm her down.

He should have known; she had been in a bad mood ever since she arrived at prison.

“It’s alright, we’ll go and bring Glenn and Maggie back,” Daryl said, putting his arm around Lina as they walked into the cell; she needed to rest.

Lina was in a daze and couldn't hear or see anything.

Only one thought was on her mind: Everyone will die.

Patricia brought Lina some hot water, and Daryl took the cup and tried to feed it to Lina, but Lina just kept trembling and was completely uncooperative.

“We need a tranquilizer or sleeping pills or something,” Herschel said helplessly, looking at Lina. There was nothing he could do.

“Sleeping pills?” Carl seemed to have thought of something, ran outside and started searching. He quickly ran back with a bottle of pills. “I got them from the infirmary.” He looked at Herschel, wondering if the pills would work.

Herschel glanced at it and said, "It should be fine." He took some tools and began to prepare. Patricia went to help, and soon he returned with a packet of liquid and gave Lina the injection.

A moment later, Daryl saw Rick calling from the doorway. Lena in his arms seemed to have calmed down, her eyelids drooping heavily.

“Go ahead, we’ll take good care of her,” Amy said to Daryl.

Daryl was very worried, but he knew that rescuing Glenn and Maggie was more important, and that Lena would be safe in prison.

Daryl carefully placed Lina on the bed and walked out somewhat irritably. He didn't know what Lina was worried about, even to the point of worrying about her health. This frustrated him. He always wanted to give her a stable life, even though it was difficult.

"What's wrong with her?" Rick asked, glancing worriedly at the room where Lina was.

“I don’t know, it’s kind of like stress,” Daryl said sullenly.

Rick also found it strange. What could be the reason? But now was not the time to speculate. "We need to prepare. Under the cover of night..." Rick glanced back at the woman, "Take her with you. Be careful."

Daryl nodded, and Rick patted him on the shoulder. "You and me..."

“Count me in,” Oscar said as he walked over, and Axel added, “I’ll go too.”

Beth ran over and said she wanted to go too. Rick and Daryl exchanged a glance. "We can't all go. We need some people to stay behind just in case." If they attacked, they couldn't just let the rest of them die.

“Me, Daryl, Oscar, and that woman,” Rick said.

He left Moore and Axel to protect the others in the prison. Lina wasn't in good condition, and as for the rest... to be honest, he was quite worried.

“I’ll go with you,” Andrea said, walking over with a bag. “Flashbangs,” Daryl said, taking the bag and glancing at Andrea. He was also planning to get those.

“Okay,” Rick thought for a moment and didn’t argue, “Listen, we’ll sneak over, quietly rescue Glenn and Maggie, and then leave immediately, understand?”

Everyone nodded and began packing. This might be a signal to start a war, but they had to go; Glenn and Maggie were family.

When Lina woke up, it was already the next day. She looked at the wooden planks of the iron bed frame in front of her in confusion. Did she see the swordswoman come yesterday?

Then……

Lina sat up abruptly, put on her shoes, and ran out.

"Hehehe! Watch where you're going!" Moll complained, startled by Lina's (?) wild boar leaping out of its enclosure.

Lina glanced at him. "Where's Daryl? Where's Daryl?"

Morton paused, she seemed genuinely anxious. Morton pressed his tongue against the soft flesh inside his mouth, a mischievous idea forming in his mind. "He..." Morton turned his head away 'dejectedly,' "I'm going to see him off, do you want to come?"

What does this mean? Lina was stunned. Give it to him? Did something happen to him? Daryl survived to the very end, how could something have happened to him? Was it because of her? Did she disrupt everything, so Daryl's fate also became uncertain?

Lina's incredulous look almost made Moore burst out laughing. He tried to lower his voice, "I want this to accompany him..." He held a few crossbow bolts in his hand, looking quite distressed.

Lina's vision went black, and she staggered back a few steps. "You must be lying," Lina's legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground, her ears ringing.

Now Moore panicked. He remembered that the kid had suddenly become stressed yesterday. Had he been frightened by him again? Oh no!

Just as Moore was thinking about how to explain himself without losing face, Daryl walked in carrying a string of squirrels. He looked at Moore with a puzzled expression, and then saw Lina sitting on the ground.

"Lina?" Daryl walked over quickly and helped Lina up. She looked very weak and leaned limply against Daryl.

“Daryl?” Lina blinked blankly.

“Yeah?” Daryl raised an eyebrow, as if he had realized something. He glared at Moore, who sullenly touched the tip of his nose, wanting to slip away.

Suddenly, Lina burst into heart-wrenching sobs, startling Moore. Daryl panicked as well, grabbing Lina and glaring at Moore, "What did you do?"

Moore raised his hands in terror, "I swear I didn't do anything, I just, no, I didn't say anything..." Although his words were somewhat ambiguous and deliberately leading, he didn't actually say anything!

It was all in her head!

Lena's heart-wrenching cries quickly triggered a chain reaction, and Judith also started crying. Everyone poked their heads out of the room, looking at the three of them with sleepy eyes.

"What happened?" Rick, exhausted from a long night, rubbed his temples wearily and held Judith, trying to soothe her.

Lina cried even more dramatically than Judith, and even blew snot bubbles from her nose.

Daryl found it both funny and heartbreaking. She glared at Moore, then grabbed her clothes to wipe Lina's tears. "Moore must have said something!"

Under the condemning gazes of the crowd, Moore looked up at the sky and whistled guiltily.

Lina sobbed, "Mo, Mo'er, Mo'er!"

Daryl continued to glare at Moore. "Ignore him, stop crying," he said, wiping away Lina's tears.

“He said, he said, you’re dead… Waaah…” Lina let out another howl and clung to Daryl, sobbing.

Daryl helplessly hugged Lina and patted her back to comfort her.

Everyone shook their heads, feeling both sad and amused. After giving Moore the middle finger, some went back to sleep, some comforted the children, and others got back to work...

Feeling guilty, Moore slipped out of the prison. He really hadn't done anything!

Daryl carried Lena upstairs back to her cubicle. She was still crying, as if she had endless tears. Daryl felt helpless and could only hold Lena and gently pat her back, just like he had comforted Judith.

Her legs were tightly wrapped around Daryl's waist, and it was clear that her body had recovered well; she was very strong.

When Judith stopped crying downstairs, Lina was still crying.

They cried so much that everyone seemed to be there for a visit, constantly passing by Lina's cubicle to secretly peek at the two of them.

Daryl felt a little helpless, but there was nothing she could do. She was in a bad mood, so she decided to just cry and let it all out; she thought it would make her feel better.

Finally, Lina cried herself to sleep again, clinging tightly to Daryl even in her sleep. Daryl helplessly lay down on Lina's bed, with Lina on top of him, and took a nap like that.

Daryl was supposed to be discussing how to protect the prison today... Despite his worries, he couldn't resist the drowsiness and fell asleep.

Daryl was awakened by a commotion—gunfire, lots of gunfire!

Daryl and Lina suddenly opened their eyes, grabbed their weapons, and ran out.

On the way, she also saw Tersey and Tasha, who, without her knowledge, had arrived at the prison and seemed to have been detained.

They hid behind cover, with a dead father and son lying not far away. Lina had never seen them before, so she must have come while she was asleep.

Daryl and Lina exchanged a glance and continued to advance, using the terrain as a guide. Lina didn't have many bullets left. She was a melee fighter, but the suppressive fire from the outside forced her to retreat to the rear, which made her very unhappy.

She was determined to kill the governor herself, and no one could disrupt her peaceful life.

The truck crashed through the fence, and the people outside the prison gradually left. Lina rushed into the meadow with a knife and quickly cleared away the walkers.

Herschel and Rick were outside studying the crops and looking at the land when the sudden attack forced them to lie on the ground to take cover. Fortunately, the attackers didn't notice them.

After clearing the walkers from the grassland, Lina looked around. Even though they had taken some cover beforehand, they had still lost Axel.

“Oscar…?” Lina asked, looking at Daryl walking towards her. Daryl silently shook his head; he had died in that small town last night.

Lina was silent for a moment, then said, "I'm going to kill that guy."

Daryl frowned. "I'd like to," but it's not that simple.

Their firepower is insufficient, and assassination is probably even less likely. Since last night, the town's security should be even tighter.

Lina looked at Rick.
