Chapter 47

Chapter 47

With the medicine Mor brought, Herschel and Maggie made several IV drips, which barely alleviated everyone's condition. However, Lina's condition was now very serious. If Daryl didn't return soon, I'm afraid...

Seeing that the situation had stabilized, Maggie covered her face and went outside. She went to the cell next door and looked at Patricia's body, sobbing uncontrollably. She had been bitten by Dr. S.

She didn't know how Patricia and her father had managed to stay there. Every minute and every second she spent there filled her with fear. She was terrified that Glenn wouldn't wake up, and terrified that when Glenn woke up, he wouldn't be Glenn anymore.

Maggie wiped away her tears, tried to calm herself down, and then went to pull the stretchers, finish off the corpses, and carry them one by one into the empty room.

While struggling to move the body, Maggie suddenly felt a sense of lightness. She looked across and saw Carol and Amy helping her lift it.

"How did you get in?" Maggie asked worriedly. "Get out of here right away..."

“They’re already inside,” Amy smiled, placing the body on a stretcher. “We brought back some things; I don’t know if they’ll come in handy.” Amy handed the bag to Maggie.

“I’ll take it to my dad,” Maggie said, looking at Amy with a slight daze. She opened her backpack and rummaged through it, finding some IV bags, tubing adapters, and some medicine at the bottom.

Carol and Amy carefully examined the bodies and continued to transport them.

Upstairs, Herschel looked at the backpack Maggie brought in surprise. "It'll come in handy, it'll come in handy," Herschel said happily. He quickly took out a syringe, drew out some antibiotics, went to Lina's room, pulled up her arm, and injected them into her.

Herschel added the remaining medicine to each person's IV drip, hoping to prolong their lives a little longer.

"Can someone tell me what's going on?" Moore let go of his hand. Glenn had regained consciousness and was looking at Moore in a daze.

“The flu,” Maggie glanced at Glenn and took his hand with concern.

"You've really gone to a long rant," Moore rolled his eyes.

“…” Maggie ignored Moore’s sarcasm; she had no interest in explaining the whole story.

Mohr poked Lina, but she didn't move, which gave Mohr a headache. Could this girl be dead?

Just as Herschel was busy, there was another noise at the door, and Rick and Daryl came running over carrying two bags.

"Did we make it?" Daryl asked nervously, looking at the chaotic scene before him, terrified of hearing the answer he didn't want to hear.

"Just in time." Herschel breathed a sigh of relief. Daryl and the others had brought back more medicine, and everyone could receive adequate treatment, which made Herschel happy. They had held on.

After administering the medication to everyone, Herschel finally relaxed. Maggie watched over Glenn, Tyrsey watched over Sasha, Daryl watched over Lena, and Carol and Amy looked after the others. Herschel dragged his heavy steps to Dr. S's cell. He looked at the bodies of Caleb and Patricia, picked up the Bible, and silently stroked it.

This was a difficult and heavy day, but it was also a new day.

Lina opened her eyes groggily, and the person in front of her was shrouded in halos under the light. "I thought I saw a Bodhisattva... but thinking about it, a Bodhisattva isn't as unkempt as you..." Lina joked.

"I don't even know if you call that a compliment?" Daryl said, raising an eyebrow as he gently brushed Lina's hair aside. "Are you alright?"

"Still alive, in pain." Lina shifted her body, struggling a bit, but she could barely move.

“You need to rest well.” Daryl pressed her down to lie down.

“Where are the others?” Lina asked.

“Most of them are fine, but some didn’t make it to our return.” Daryl was somewhat downcast.

“You’ve done your best,” Lina said, propping herself up as she half-sat down and stroking Daryl’s cheek.

“It could have been better,” Daryl said unhappily.

"You're even more of a hero than I am. Next time you scold me, please reflect on your own behavior first." Lina pouted. These people are so hypocritical! Hypocritical!

“That’s different,” Daryl said guiltily, changing the subject. He didn’t want to argue with Lena. “I have to go help. We need to carry the bodies out and burn them. They’re probably too busy. There’s also disinfection and investigation…”

“Okay,” Lina thought for a moment, “wait, what about Herschel?”

"Shall I go look for him?" Daryl didn't know where he had gone either, but he was probably just helping out somewhere.

“I have a bad feeling. Anyway, you have to be careful and don’t let anyone wander around outside,” Lina said, holding Daryl tightly.

"Huh? Okay?" Daryl found it a bit strange. "But..." Is he a little delirious because he's been sick?

"I'm serious. Don't go outside," Lina said anxiously.

Seeing this, Daryl didn't press the matter further. He looked deeply into Lina's eyes, sighed after a long while, and said, "I understand. Don't worry."

Lina was anxious but helpless due to her physical weakness. The governor was nearby, but she could only lie uselessly in bed!

She angrily punched herself, closed her eyes to rest for a while, but couldn't calm down at all. Lina held onto the bed and sat up.

Lena slowly stood up, supporting herself on the bed, but her legs gave way and she fell to the ground.

"Is it Lina?" Glenn and Maggie stopped talking and looked at the next room with a puzzled expression.

“Daryl seems to have gone downstairs. I’ll go check,” Maggie stood up and went next door, where she saw Lina writhing and crawling on the floor.

Lina heard footsteps and chose to play dead on the spot.

"Lina!" Maggie shouted angrily. She walked over, lifted Lina up, and put her back on the bed. "What you need now is rest, rest! If you dare to move again, I'll call someone to keep an eye on you."

Lina looked at Maggie guiltily, "I know, I was just so bored, I wanted to go outside and see what was going on..."

“Once you’ve recovered,” Maggie tapped Lina’s forehead angrily, “you’re such a little rascal.”

Lina shrank back innocently, looking pitifully at Maggie. Maggie glared at her helplessly. "I'm right next door," Maggie gestured with her eyes, then pointed at Lina, indicating that she would be watching her.

Lina nodded obediently, still angry about her illness.

This is the height of impotent rage.

Hopefully, Daryl can at least stop Michonne and Herschel.

“I’ll go with you…” Daryl followed Lina’s instructions and kept an eye on everyone to make sure no one went out, but all those corpses in the prison had to be taken out and burned eventually.

"What's wrong? You don't trust us?" Michonne found it somewhat amusing; was Daryl's anxiety starting to spread to Lina?

“No, it’s just that I want to help too,” Daryl said awkwardly.

“Moving the zombies does require a lot of people, but you’ve been working all day. Are you sure you don’t want to rest?” Herschel asked.

“You make it sound like you’re not one either,” Daryl said. “But you’re fucking tough.”

Herschel raised an eyebrow helplessly. "Yes, I think so too."

Almost all the bodies had to be taken out and burned, even though they were all our own people. But this was an infectious disease, and there was no other way but to burn them.

At the very least, he had to personally see them off.

Daryl stepped on the back of the car, and Michonne drove out. The zombies tied up at the gate had rotted quite a bit; they needed to get some more to cover up the prison's atmosphere.

It would be best to burn this batch all together.

Upon leaving the prison, Daryl cautiously surveyed his surroundings.

A short while later, Michonne stopped the car, Daryl jumped out, and the three of them began to pile up the bodies.

Daryl paused for a moment when he saw Patricia's body, then looked at Herschel.

“She wanted to help,” Herschel said. “I’m proud of her.”

“…” Daryl didn’t speak. “We can dig a few holes outside…”

“Burdaryl, this is an infectious disease, we must burn it,” Herschel said seriously. “The virus may mutate, which would be even more troublesome, but I believe they will understand.”

Daryl nodded and continued to silently move the body.

Perhaps infected by Lina's inexplicable nervousness, Daryl felt as if someone was watching them.

Daryl glanced around calmly. "I'm going to the restroom," he said, glancing at the carriage. "There aren't many left."

“Don’t go too far,” Michonne said. “Don’t worry, we won’t peek.”

Herschel smiled upon hearing this.

Daryl gave her a speechless look. "Go do your work."

The woods were his territory, Daryl always thought so; he knew the woods well, he knew every inch of it.

So he easily circled around, looking at the traces of leaves and mud, and arrived at the place that made him feel uncomfortable.

He is the governor.

Daryl pulled out his pistol and shot the governor in the head.

The governor pointed his gun at Herschel, but he quickly noticed something amiss in the old man's eyes. He cleverly bent over, stumbled, and a bullet grazed his scalp. The man had indeed spotted him.

Herschel also got a gun and fired at the governor, who had no choice but to run away.

He was shot twice, but thankfully, not in any vital areas.

Daryl wanted to give chase, but he was worried about other ambushes around. Herschel and Michonne were still outside, and he had to take them back first.

Daryl tucked his gun into his waistband and, together with Herschel, carried Michonne back.

Rick ran up to them anxiously. "I heard gunshots. Are you alright?"

“It’s nothing, it’s the governor,” Daryl said.

Rick took over from Herschel and, together with Daryl, helped Michonne walk back. "He's still alive?" Rick was somewhat surprised. This was troublesome.

“He couldn’t have come alone,” Daryl thought strangely, given that the governor had clearly intended to kidnap Michonne and Herschel.

“His troops might be behind us,” Rick frowned. “We need to prepare.”

Herschel was somewhat worried, "Everyone's health hasn't fully recovered, and we're running out of supplies."

“War won’t wait for you to be ready,” Daryl said. “That guy’s a madman.”

“Evacuate the children and patients first,” Rick thought. “You and Maggie take them away,” Rick said to Herschel. “The rest, we’ll have to talk to them.”

“The bus is in the back; it should be able to fit them all,” Daryl agreed.

“Rick, perhaps you could try talking to the governor. In any case, we can’t afford a war right now,” Herschel said after a moment’s thought.

“I’ll try,” Rick sighed, but he didn’t hold out much hope.
