Chapter 82
A day and a half had passed, and for a moment, Lina could hardly tell whether they were zombies or people.
Under the blazing sun, with little water and no food, everyone walked wearily along the road, but found neither food nor water in the woods.
Lina was already sensitive to heat, and now she felt like she was about to die on the way.
But what can we do? We still have to bite the bullet and keep going.
Lina glanced back and saw some zombies appearing in the distance at the other end of the road. Now, who could tell the difference between them and the zombies?
Although Herschel was quite old, he actually looked much better than Gabriel. The two of them were huddled together talking about something, probably about the police.
Foreigners tend to be religious, but she's different. She'll try any religion, as long as they actually solve her problems.
Now it seems that none of them are useful.
Lina stopped in despair, feeling her boots were soaked with sweat!
Daryl glanced back at Lina. "Want me to carry you?"
Lena rolled her eyes. "I'm not that bad." The only one being hugged was Judith. Was she going to compare herself to Judith? Did she have no shame?
Daryl shrugged and turned back to continue talking to Rick.
Lina sighed sadly. Amy and Andrea walked past her. "Do you need to change your shoes? Thigh-high boots aren't suitable for long journeys."
Lina pouted, looking at her shoes with some struggle. They felt stuffy and uncomfortable, and she felt blisters on her feet.
"Does anyone have shoes?" Lina asked.
"On your feet."
Nobody would put a pair of shoes in their backpack, except for Lina before.
"Wait a minute, I'll peel a pair off the zombie's feet for you?" Andrea said.
"Spare me, I can't even imagine what's in there." Lina was completely horrified. In this heat, the zombies might as well be made into ice cream.
"Well, there's nothing we can do then. Be strong." Amy looked at Lina with schadenfreude. "What did I tell you? I told you to change your shoes, and you still didn't!"
Lena was a little unconvinced. "Who knew we'd actually have to walk 60 miles? My God, that's going to kill me."
“Let’s look around on the road; maybe we’ll find some shoes we can wear. Don’t worry,” Carol said gently.
Lina ran tearfully into Carol's arms. Carol was the best. Amy and Andrea were both bad guys!
Carol patted Lina's head, both amused and exasperated. "Are you that tired?" She looked at Rick, her eyes asking if they could stop and rest.
Rick looked at Lina, who was crying in Carol's arms, and sighed helplessly. He gestured for Carol to look at the walkers not far away.
"Alright," Carroll said with a helpless pursed lips. "Hang in there a little longer. Daryl and Moore went into the woods. Maybe they'll come back carrying a deer in a bit."
Lina pouted. "...Once is enough for this kind of thing."
Carol laughed. She would tease Daryl about this for the rest of her life, she swore to JC.
After walking for a while, they came to a bridge. Rick looked around and told Herschel to take Beth and the children to hide. The rest of them stood on both sides of the bridge and used themselves as bait to lure the walkers off the bridge.
Because of the terrain, not many people are needed. There are four people on one side: Rick, Glenn, Michonne, and Lena, and on the other side: Abraham, Sasha, Maggie, and Andrea.
In order, everyone tricked the stupid zombies into falling off the bridge one by one, occasionally helping them out with a push or a push. The whole plan was very effortless.
When Sasha did not follow the plan, she rushed forward and pulled out a knife.
“Cover her,” Rick shouted.
Everyone was actually a bit tired and not in good condition. Lina swung her knife wearily. The last time she felt this strained was when she had the flu.
Hunger is not the worst thing; the worst thing is not having water.
She felt like the world was emitting a strong white light, and everything was dazzlingly terrifying. She hated the hot weather!
Lena heard shouts around her. Several walkers surrounded Rick, and one of them had its mouth right next to Rick's. Lena's vision was blurry, and she didn't dare to swing her dagger. Fortunately, Daryl ran out from the nearby woods and grabbed the walker that was lunging at Rick. Moore then dealt with it.
The situation was brought under control, and Lina heard Michonne angrily say to Sasha, "I told you to stop!"
Lina sheathed her knife. She knew Sasha must be very upset, but anger sometimes only drags oneself or others into the abyss.
She is very knowledgeable about profound principles.
Lina looked at Daryl and Mor, who had returned empty-handed, without food or water.
Lina floated to Dallie's side like a ghost, clung to his arm, and said in a daze, "No, I can't take it anymore, I'm going to faint."
“…” Daryl touched Lina’s forehead. Fortunately, she shouldn’t have a fever, but she was like that last time too. Daryl looked up at the sun. It was too hot.
"Where's your scarf?" Daryl asked.
"It's too hot," Lina said.
“You can’t stand the sun anymore,” Daryl said, dragging Lina to Amy’s side. He pulled a silk scarf from Lina’s backpack and forcibly wrapped it around Lina’s head.
"It's so hot!!!" Lina screamed.
“No discussion,” Daryl insisted. He knew it was hot, but the scarf was already quite thin. If she stayed in the sun any longer, she would end up with a sunburn like last time.
And it would be even more troublesome if they got a fever, since they had already run out of medicine.
After walking a while longer, several cars came into view, and everyone became tense.
“I’ll go around through the woods,” Daryl said, leaving with his crossbow.
As Lina watched him leave, she quickly tore off her silk scarf. She was truly exasperated with him; did he really want to kill her with heat?
Fortunately, the vehicles seemed to be abandoned, and everyone scattered to try to find some supplies.
The car was out of gas, and there was no food or drink in it. The only thing they could find was a few bottles of strong liquor.
Everyone sat down dejectedly by the roadside; at least they could stay out of the sun and rest for a while.
Lina stared longingly into the woods, wondering why Daryl hadn't returned yet.
"Oh God, have pity on me, let Daryl catch a deer, or even a dozen squirrels..." Lina pleaded, her hands clasped together.
Glenn almost couldn't help but laugh; Lena clearly wasn't religious.
Lina, of course, did not know that Daryl had indeed found a deer in the woods, but it had already been almost completely eaten.
This discovery is even more disheartening than not discovering it at all.
Daryl walked back dejectedly. Rick heard the noise in the woods and immediately reached for his gun. He only relaxed when Daryl's figure became clearly visible.
The group sat dejectedly by the roadside. Even Daryl couldn't find any food. Were they really going to starve to death here?
Abraham took out some wine and drank it; he didn't want to die of thirst.
“That will only make things worse,” Tara said, glancing at Abraham.
“Yes,” Rosita sighed, her throat was very dry and her voice had become hoarse.
“He’s an adult, and I honestly don’t think things could get any worse,” Eugene said expressionlessly, sitting like a proper schoolboy.
“Yes, you can,” Rosita said without hesitation.
A noise came from the woods, and everyone looked over in alarm. There was a dog, followed by several more... They were staring at them menacingly.
They look hungry too.
Lina paused, unsure how to react, staring blankly at them.
They wanted to eat them.
In an instant, they all fell to the muzzle of the gun. Sasha gave no one time to react and had already dealt with the dogs.
Rick paused for a moment, then stood up and went into the woods to pick up a branch.
It was like a signal, and everyone sprang into action.
Lena stared blankly at their actions, just as we all know how to handle poultry. Lena covered her mouth, turned around, and ran out.
"vomit--"
Rick paused for a moment, then handed the branch in his hand to Glenn, wanting to go and take a look.
Daryl wiped the blood off his hands and handed the meat to Rick. "I'll go check on him."
Rick nodded, then hesitated, "She..."
“She’ll be fine,” Daryl said.
Mole, who was processing meat, pursed his lips. So pretentious.
Lena leaned against the tree, bent over, and vomited until she brought up bile; there was really nothing left for her to vomit.
"vomit--"
Lina couldn't stop gagging, and physiological tears filled her eyes. In a daze, she saw that red color again, the red ball rolling and finally stopping at someone's feet.
"You guys like playing this, don't you?" Slender, fair fingers gently toyed with the ball, slowly holding it in her palm. She straightened up slowly, and Lina saw her face clearly, taking a step back in horror.
Bright red blood slowly flowed down her split head, which looked as if it had been crushed flat. Her facial features were flat, and her body was covered with various metal objects. She reached out her hand and walked towards Lina.
Lena retreated in terror. She didn't know what it was and fell to the ground in a panic, supporting herself with her arms as she continued to back away.
"Look..."
Lina felt a tightness in her chest, almost unable to breathe, her face flushed red, and she stopped backing away, staring blankly at everything in front of her.
"Lina, look..."
"Lina!"
"Lina!"
"Lina!"
Lena snapped back to reality to find Daryl shaking her, with a fallen zombie behind him.
It was completely different from what she had seen.
Lina was a little confused; she didn't know what had happened.
Daryl hugged Lina. "Are you alright? Are you alright?" He had just arrived when he saw Lina slumped to the ground, staring blankly as the walker walked towards her. She was crying, but she didn't react at all; she just quietly and motionless shed tears.
“…No, it’s nothing.” Lina patted Daryl’s back absently. “I’m sorry, I just… I just…”
“Don’t leave our sight again,” Daryl said worriedly.
"I'm sorry, I just..." Lina's thoughts returned to what had just happened, and that feeling of nausea surged up again, but she really couldn't vomit, so she could only cover her mouth and dry heave.
“I’m sorry, we have to…” Daryl said, looking at the distressed Lina.
“I know,” Lina said with difficulty, “They want to eat us too, I’m not that kind.” Lina gave a forced smile.
“…We’ll go back after they’ve finished eating,” Daryl said, sitting down next to Lina and taking her hand.
“You should go back and eat something too,” Lina said.
“I can’t leave yourself here,” Daryl said.
“That was just an accident,” Lina complained.
“Humm—” Daryl made a strange sound that I didn’t quite agree with.
“Really…” Lina looked at him with dissatisfaction, “Okay, let’s go back together.”
“No,” Daryl refused Lina, “you’ll be very uncomfortable there. Don’t force yourself. Moore will save food for me, so don’t worry about me.” He would eat away from Lina.
“…I just can’t stand seeing this, but I know it’s all necessary,” Lina said.
“I know,” Daryl nodded.
Lina felt a little heartbroken, as if she were the kind of person who thought, "Bunny is so cute, how could I eat bunny?"
Daryl was more worried about Lina. They could still eat something, but what about Lina? She couldn't go hungry, could she?
“You need to eat something…” Daryl was a little worried. He couldn’t wait until Lina fell asleep and then secretly feed her, could he?
Of course, he would do that if it came to a last resort.
"Hmm," Lina looked up at the treetops, "Have you eaten cicadas yet?"
Daryl looked up in confusion.
