Chapter 7 The Bracelet That Transcends Time

"Mother, what's wrong?"

The handkerchief was bulging, and it was clear that it didn't contain money.

Aside from money, Xia Wenhua couldn't think of anything else Pei's mother could give her.

“No matter what happened in the past, since you want to live a good life with the eldest son now, what is rightfully yours should be yours. This was passed down from Grandpa and Grandma Songbai, and it should rightfully be given to the eldest daughter-in-law. Now it’s your turn to take it.”

As she spoke, Pei's mother opened her handkerchief, revealing a fine bracelet inside.

Xia Wenhua stared at the table, her gaze shifting, and she instinctively took it.

The shimmering bracelet exudes a soft glow; even the most clueless person can tell at a glance that it is of considerable value.

She should have declined, since apart from Pei Songbai who received a salary, the Pei family's circumstances had never been particularly good. If the bracelet that Pei's mother took out were actually taken to the black market, it might be worth several hundred yuan.

But... she'd seen this bracelet before! Or rather, this bracelet had been in her possession before she transmigrated!

"Mother, this bracelet... was it passed down from the Pei family ancestors?"

A thought flashed through Xia Wenhua's mind, so fast that she didn't even have time to grasp it, but she subconsciously wanted to confirm something.

She suffered from amnesia due to a fever when she was a child, and has lived in an orphanage since she can remember. Logically, she should have been very poor, but no one knows that she has had a valuable bracelet with her since she was a child.

When she earned her first small fortune, she specifically asked someone to take a look at it. At the time, they said the bracelet was worth at least ten million. She was always wondering where she got it.

Who would have thought that after falling seriously ill, she would travel through time and see this bracelet in the 1960s or 70s?

Madam Pei didn't seem to care about Xia Wenhua's rudeness. She had already taken out the bracelet, saying that it was for Xia Wenhua, so it was for her.

“The Pei family ancestors… don’t talk about those things anymore. Anyway, this bracelet has been passed down from generation to generation and must be passed to the eldest daughter-in-law. But it’s not a very valuable thing now. I don’t have anything else to give you, so this is all I can give you.”

Without saying anything more, Pei's mother sensed that the people working outside should be back soon, so she invited Xia Wenhua out of her room and went to the kitchen to cook.

The fact that something she had owned for many years had suddenly appeared in this era left Xia Wenhua's mind in turmoil, and she couldn't sort out her thoughts for a while.

The two children were still playing in the yard. After she returned to her room, she immediately took out the bracelet and showed it to Pei Songbai.

"Songbai, this is what my mother gave me. Have you seen it before?"

Pei Songbai was busy packing his luggage when he heard this. He glanced at the bracelet in her hand and quickly looked away. "It seems to be one that Grandma used to wear a lot when I was little. I think she gave it to Mom later. But things have been weird these past few years, and I haven't seen Mom wear it since. Did you get this?"

Xia Wenhua nodded haphazardly, calling out to the Transmigration God in her mind again, but to no avail. It seemed that after she was automatically transported here, the Transmigration God who brought her here was gone.

Is the reason she traveled here really the same as what the so-called time-travel gods said?

This is an unsolvable problem; at least Xia Wenhua herself can't figure it out, so she can only put it aside for now.

Because Pei Songbai returned to separate the family this time, everyone's attitude towards him was obviously not as warm as before.

When it was time for them to leave, only Pei's mother came to see them off.

Mother Pei hadn't expected her children to be so disrespectful. She looked at Pei Songbai and his wife with apologetic eyes: "They're busy with farm work right now, they don't have time to come, I..."

"Alright, Mother, I know what's going on. You don't need to say anything more on their behalf." Pei Songbai interrupted his mother, not wanting her to continue to be troubled.

He took on the responsibility of the family as soon as he was able to work. Perhaps because he was so capable, his younger brothers seemed incompetent in comparison. In fact, he did not have a good relationship with his family since childhood.

Pei Songbai didn't care whether his younger brother came or not. Instead, he told his mother, "Mom, you must keep the money I send to yourself. Give it to whoever is filial to you. Don't give it to others as soon as you get it, like before. You have to take good care of yourself."

Pei's mother naturally knew who was good to her, but all her children were like debts to her, and she couldn't help it since they were all equally dear to her.

She nodded with tears in her eyes: "Eldest sister, eldest sister, please take good care of yourselves on the journey."

After speaking with Pei Songbai, Pei's mother squatted down and looked at the two children: "Chenchen, Guangguang, Grandma's darlings, you must listen to your parents from now on, okay?"

The original owner was unhappy in the Pei family and sometimes thought that all of this was caused by the two children, so she treated the two children indifferently.

The twins had almost always grown up with their mother, Pei. It was only in the last six months that the younger twin's family insisted on having their daughter sleep with Xia Wenhua. The original owner didn't want anyone else in the room, so she brought the child over.

The twins were suddenly going to leave with their parents, and the person who was most reluctant to part with them was Pei's mother.

"Grandma, aren't you coming with us?"

"Yes, Grandma, let's go together."

Pei Xiangchen and Pei Xiangguang's third birthdays haven't passed yet, and even though they are smarter than the average child, they haven't shown it so obviously.

These past two days, Xia Wenhua told Pei Songbai that she was going to take them away, but the two little ones kept insisting that they would go with their grandmother.

Now, hearing the implication in Pei's mother's words that she wasn't going with them, the two little ones immediately had tears in their eyes.

"Wow, I don't care, Grandma wants to come with me."

"Grandma, let's go together!"

...

Children's crying is truly terrifying, and when twins are crying, the other twin can't stay still either, which is even more terrifying.

Pei Songbai and Xia Wenhua took the children to the station. Finally, the two children cried themselves to sleep. The two looked at each other and both looked pale.

After learning that Pei's mother was not going with them, Pei Xiangchen and Pei Xiangguang started crying their hearts out, making them look like human traffickers. They had to explain themselves to people countless times along the way.

It took more than an hour to walk from Hongshan Village to the county train station, and the two cries for more than an hour, but they finally cried themselves to sleep.

"The car will arrive in another hour. You stay here with the child for a while while I go find something to eat."

Pei Songbai spread a sheet on the floor, placed all the luggage he was carrying on the sheet, and then put Pei Xiangchen on it, indicating to Xia Wenhua to do the same.

The moment Xia Wenhua placed the child on the luggage, she felt like she could burst into song: Finally, I'm free!

Even though the child only weighed about 20 pounds, carrying him all the way was an unbearable experience. After carrying him for a long time, she felt like she was carrying a lump of iron and almost died from exhaustion.

Pei Songbai went to buy food, and Xia Wenhua was also stretching her arms to relax when suddenly she felt a darkness before her eyes. When she looked up, she found a fierce-looking man with a big beard standing in front of her.
