Chapter 359 The Orphanage's Lies: The Handsome Flower Boy 59

"It's okay, Mom, just come in. I'll mop the floor later."

"Sister Li! We're back!"

Shen Ci pulled her into the house, saying she would get used to it. Given the right conditions, who wouldn't love cleanliness?

Most women are naturally clean and tidy and will take care of their homes.

Footsteps came from inside the house, and a woman wearing a blue apron, who looked to be around thirty years old, quickly walked out from the inner room.

She was short, with a round face, and her hair was neatly tied in a bun at the back of her head. She smiled whenever she saw Chen Ci.

"President Shen is back! This must be the old lady, right?"

Old lady? Who is the old lady? Who is she calling?

Mrs. Shen shuddered. In her life, she had been called many things: Aunt, Guodong's mother, Old Shen's daughter, Feng's girl, but no one had ever called her Old Madam.

There are old women, though.

This title sounds just like how we used to address landladys back in the day—it's so elaborate and elegant.

Shen Ci introduced the two to each other. Li Sao was young, only a little older than Shen Ci, but she was hardworking.

"Sister Li, this is my mother. She will be living here from now on."

"Mom, this is Aunt Li. She's in charge of cooking and cleaning."

Aunt Li immediately stepped forward to greet her, her attitude respectful but not obsequious, and very considerate.

"Hello, ma'am! You must be tired from your journey."

The room is warm enough. Please take off your coat and give it to me so I can hang it up for you.

There's chicken soup simmering in the kitchen; we'll be eating soon.

Feeling dizzy, Chen's mother took off her cotton-padded coat as Li Sao did, and Li Sao skillfully took it and hung it on the coat rack by the door.

Now that someone is helping her take off her clothes, Chen's mother is not used to it. Only now does she realize how warm the room is, which is completely different from the outside!

Only then did she have time to look around the unfamiliar house, the place where her daughter lived.

The living room wasn't large, but it was decorated very tastefully, and you could tell at a glance that the homeowner had put a lot of thought into it.

The floor was covered with a red and green geometric patterned carpet that felt soft underfoot. Against the wall stood a set of dark brown faux leather sofas with white crochet armrest covers.

Directly opposite the sofa is a nine-inch television set, placed on a specially made wooden cabinet, with an embroidered cloth covering the television.

There was a chest of drawers against the wall, on which sat a Red Lantern brand radio, a few sprigs of plum blossoms in a glass vase, and a picture frame containing a family photo taken just a few days ago.

It's so comfortable, so beautiful, this room is just perfect.

She was relieved to see such a wonderful place; her daughter and grandson hadn't suffered any hardship.

"This, this is all yours?"

Mother Shen touched the sofa; it was so soft that she didn't dare to lie down on it, for fear of breaking it.

Shen Ci pulled her mother to sit down.

"Yes, we'll get it done gradually."

"Mom, tell me if you see anything we need here. We'll live here from now on, and we'll make sure we're comfortable."

Before Shen's mother could speak, a voice came from outside the door. Lu Jinnian returned with his schoolbag on his back. When he saw Shen's mother, his eyes lit up slightly.

"grandmother."

Li Sao immediately handed over the shoes and hung up the clothes, her movements so natural that Chen's mother was stunned.

"Young master, you're home from school? Have you finished your homework? Are you hungry? How about having a bowl of soup first?"

"Young...Young Master?"

Mother Shen repeated these three words, looked at her grandson, then at Aunt Li, and finally at her daughter.

Good heavens, what kind of society did we send her to?

"Is this...is this appropriate? We're just an ordinary family..."

"It's just a form of address, Mom, please don't mind it."

Jin Nian, show your grandmother her room.

In the north, maternal grandmother is usually called "laolao," but Lu Jinnian called her maternal grandmother from the beginning, and no one corrected her because she was used to it.

Lu Jinnian nodded and walked over to help Chen's mother up.

"Grandma, your room is on the first floor, you don't need to climb the stairs."

The terms "young master," "old lady," and "nanny" left Mrs. Shen completely bewildered. Even as her grandson helped her into the room, she remained dazed.

The corridor was covered with dark red lacquered cloth, the walls were painted snow-white, and a landscape painting hung on the wall. Lu Jinnian pushed open the door to the room.

The room faces south, and sunlight streams in through the glass windows, making it warm and cozy.

A double wooden bed was placed against the wall, covered with a thick cotton mattress, and the sheets were blue cotton with white flowers, a color scheme that looked very comfortable.

A green glass-shaded lamp sat on the bedside table, and the curtains were made of pale yellow polyester fabric and tied with a white drawstring.

There's also a small desk and a chair by the window.

What surprised Shen's mother the most was that there was a small photo frame on the desk, containing a photo of her and Shen's father when they were young. The photo had yellowed, but it had been wiped clean.

"Where did this photo come from?"

Shen Ci stood at the door, watching as she seemed satisfied with everything inside—perhaps too satisfied, as she hadn't quite recovered yet.

"I brought it from my hometown; I found it at home that day."

"Mom, is there anything else we need?"

Mother Shen touched the photo frame, her eyes welling up with tears, and shook her head.

"I have everything I need, nothing at all. This is even better than my house back home, it's better in every way."

Stop fussing over it, it's good enough already.

With such great conditions, there's really nothing to complain about. If I had known that following my daughter would bring such a good life, I would have come sooner! These conditions are so much better than those in Shenjia Village.

She used to live such a hard life.

Aunt Li said with a smile at the door.

"Madam, the sheets and blankets are all freshly washed, and we've prepared a few changes of clothes for you in the wardrobe."

It was all Mr. Shen's special instruction that you should buy some comfortable cotton clothes, saying that you are frugal.

"Please rest for a while, I'll call you when the food is ready."

Li Sao also came from a suburban village, and she didn't look down on Shen's mother's reaction at all.

After Aunt Li went to the kitchen, Mother Shen pulled her daughter to sit down by the bed and lowered her voice.

"Ni'er, how much does Aunt Li pay a month?"

And this house, this furniture, tell Mom honestly, how much money have you actually made?

Is it enough?

"Mom, don't worry, it's all earned honestly."

Your daughter is capable; she made money running a factory. Isn't it only right that you enjoy a comfortable life?

"Just stay here comfortably. Tell Aunt Li what you want to eat, and I'll go with you wherever you want to go."

“But this old lady and young master sound like they’re from the old society.”

Shen Ci smiled; he had quite a few concerns, and they were quite comprehensive.

"It's just a form of address. If you're not used to it, you can ask Aunt Li to call you 'Auntie' instead."

However, Sister Li came from Shanghai and used to work for wealthy families, so she was used to this kind of thing.

She's hardworking, cooks delicious meals, and keeps the house very clean.

As they were talking, a delicious aroma wafted from the kitchen, and Chen's mother sniffed it.

"Stewed chicken?"

She felt that her cooking skills were not bad, and if she could handle the job in the future, it would be best for the family to spend less money.

Shen Ci pulled her up. The stewed chicken was prepared for her; her body had been depleted for too long and needed to be slowly recuperated.

"Yes, Aunt Li's specialty is chicken soup, which needs to be simmered in a clay pot over low heat for four or five hours."

Let's go eat.
