In days gone by, a Wei emperor was reborn as a Han royal. His father remained loyal to Jin, but his heir eventually fled to the Jie barbarians.

Cao Mao, the Duke of Gaogui, was once praised by Zhong Hui as having "talent like Chen Si and martial prowess akin to Emperor Taizu." However, he was born at the wrong time and perished tragically. Upon reopening his eyes, he found himself to be the eldest son of Liu Kun, a Jin official, and a descendant of Liu Sheng, King Jing of Zhongshan from the Han Dynasty.

The chaotic timeline seemed to play a grand joke – the Great Wei emperor who destroyed the Han had become a Han imperial clansman, while his biological father in this life was subservient to the descendant of his killer in his previous life.

Later, the Rebellion of the Eight Princes and the Uprising of the Five Barbarians plunged the land into chaos. China suffered, its rivers and mountains changing color. Faced with the plight of the common people and the weak, pitiful last emperor of Jin, where should he go?

Warning: Due to the historical setting, the gong and shou both had wives, concubines, and children in their early lives. This is briefly mentioned and not elaborated upon (the author does not like discussions of "purity").
