Chapter 11 is a supernatural story, but it's normal.
Xiao Wu, who was escorting them, happened to see this scene. He felt a chill run down his spine and thought to himself, "Why am I feeling guilty? I'm not stealing the gold!"
The woman in red blew another breath on his neck, then floated to Shi Yuan's side and said in a fawning tone, "So you like gold." She should have said so earlier; she knew there was a place where gold was buried.
Before she could speak, a black sedan stopped beside Shi Yuan.
Shi Yuan tightened the bundle in her arms, feigning defensiveness.
The car window rolled down, revealing Ma Rong, who had his hair slicked back and was touching a Buddhist prayer bead on his wrist.
"Comrade, don't be nervous, I'm not a bad person." Ma Rong gave a friendly smile. "I've come here to ask if you have any ginseng left?"
"Even if the quality is a little lower," he added slowly and deliberately.
Shi Yuan shook her head. No, even if she did, she would prepare it for Shi Ling.
Upon hearing this, Ma Rong could no longer hide the regret on his face, as if all his energy had been drained away.
Shi Yuan's ginseng was able to be exchanged for so much gold thanks to Ma Rong's continuous price increases, and logically Shi Yuan should have offered his regards.
However, Shi Yuan simply nodded slightly, indicating that she could not help, and picked up her precious bundle to leave.
Ma Rong had already set up the stage, but Shi Yuan didn't take the challenge and just left!
Having no other option, Ma Rong stepped on the gas, and the car slowly started moving, catching up with Shi Yuan.
This time, Ma Rong didn't play the dejected one. Instead, he said, "Comrade, I don't mean to make things difficult for you. My wife's health desperately needs good ginseng to nourish her."
"If you still have ginseng, I'm willing to pay a high price!"
Shi Yuan was getting impatient. She had clearly stated that there was no more ginseng, but this person was still being persistent. Wasn't this just being harassing?
Is there a problem with her understanding of this word?
It shouldn't be, because Huan Ni had already started rolling her eyes. Shi Yuan glanced at the red-clad female ghost who had suddenly gone dazed, quickened her pace, and had no interest in listening to Ma Rong's love story.
But Ma Rong's car followed at a steady pace, and Ma Rong tried to strike up a conversation with Shi Yuan several times.
Just when Yuan thought Ma Rong's car was a good means of transportation and the willow leaves by the roadside were turning yellow, making it a good time to bury some organic fertilizer, Ma Rong passed away.
Huan Ni sneered: "Listen to his nonsense, you're so worried about his wife, why don't you buy the ginseng?"
Shi Yuan glanced at the red-clad female ghost who was unconsciously following the car, and then met Xiao Wu's gaze.
Xiao Wu was very open and straightforward, taking a few steps forward to reveal his identity.
Shi Yuan smiled and said she would thank He Tian in person when she had the chance, and that she was very familiar with this road. Xiao Wu, understanding her meaning, said that he had some things to do in town and politely said goodbye to Shi Yuan.
Huan Ni clicked her tongue twice: "The black market boss is actually a pretty nice guy."
"He's a kind-hearted person." Shi Yuan nodded in agreement.
"Now that the person is gone, you can throw away the brick."
"Who said the bricks were meant for him?"
"He's the only one who's stayed with us. There's no one else." "Ma Rong left too."
"It will happen." Shi Yuan touched the bundle, her face full of confidence.
Not long after, the female ghost in red floated back. I don't know if that's the right way to describe it, but she seemed somewhat lost and disoriented.
Shi Yuan and Huan Ni exchanged a glance, then turned and walked towards the mountain path beside them.
The sky suddenly darkened, with dark clouds taking up most of the sky.
"Why are we taking the mountain path?" Huan Ni asked, puzzled.
Shi Yuan smiled and replied, "Taking a shortcut will allow me to get home in time for dinner."
Ever since Huan Ni met Shi Yuan, she's been rolling her eyes so hard they're practically overflowing: "Do you think I believe that?"
Shi Yuan smiled and praised, "You understand me, Huan Ni."
Huan Ni tilted her head arrogantly, then suddenly leaned close to Shi Yuan's ear and whispered, "What kind of person is Ma Rong?"
"Um?"
Huan Ni turned around and glanced at the red-clad female ghost: "Look at that ghostly face, it's all pale and bluish, it's terrifying." What did Ma Rong do to her?
"You're not human, I can't scare you," Shi Yuan casually comforted her.
Huan Ni narrowed her eyes: "Are you insulting me?" Her voice was full of threat.
"You're overthinking it. I'm just stating the facts."
"Really?" Huan Ni didn't believe it. "Try licking your own lips. If you're not poisoned, I'll believe you!"
Rumble!
After the thunder, the sky grew even darker, with a heavy rain looming but not yet arriving. The wind rustled the grass and leaves, and occasionally a flash of lightning illuminated one side of the vegetation. It seemed as if something was hiding in the shadows, watching Shi Yuan's movements.
Shi Yuan's lips curled up slightly, and she tightened her pack. She knew that this brick would definitely come in handy.
The moment the raindrops hit, Shi Yuan simultaneously heard a sharp gust of wind behind her head.
"Be careful, Shi Yuan!" Huan Ni's voice was somewhat distorted by the wind and rain.
Shi Yuan dodged to the side, then turned around and returned the kick with a series of punches. The opponent was a trained fighter, and he and Shi Yuan fought back and forth in the heavy rain.
Another bolt of lightning struck, and Shi Yuan saw who it was. She was somewhat surprised; it wasn't Ma Rong.
Immediately, the female ghost in red answered her question: "Ma, Ma Rong is here!" Her voice trembled, filled with obvious fear.
"I never expected that this rural place could produce such a wonderful person as you." Ma Rong's laughter drifted through the wind and rain. "She's really lucky."
"Young comrade, I hope you'll be sensible and not struggle in vain."
Shi Yuan sneered; she still hoped her superpowers would immediately return to their peak state!
But she's not a turtle in a wishing well.
Shi Yuan kicked the burly man, sending him staggering, then chased after him a few steps, picked up the bundle, and smashed it hard against the man's head.
Ma Rong, holding a black umbrella, casually joked, "Ah Da, you're in luck. This bundle contains gold."
Ah's head was buzzing. He only saw Ma Rong's mouth move. He shook his head to clear his mind, then clenched his fist and punched Shi Yuan.
Suddenly, he felt a cold touch on his wrist. He glanced at it and saw that it was a highly poisonous bamboo viper!
Huan Ni flicked her tongue at A Da.
A-Da screamed and flung his hand away, leaving the area wide open. Shi Yuan lunged forward, grabbed the bundle with both hands, and forcefully slammed it repeatedly onto A-Da's forehead.
"Thump!" Ah Da Zu! No, he just fell into the mud.
Ma Rong had a brain fart. Ah Da was his most capable henchman, a former champion in underground boxing matches. Using him to deal with Shi Yuan was, in his opinion, a waste of talent.
Who would have thought he could be knocked unconscious by gold?
Ma Rong couldn't help but complain: "So useless."
Shi Yuan remained noncommittal, weighed the bundle in his hand, and threw it forcefully at Ma Rong's forehead.
Summer showers pass quickly, leaving behind a slightly earthy smell in the air, which is Shi Yuan's favorite.
She was practically humming a song as she waited for Ma Rong to be knocked down.
But just as the brick was millimeters away from Ma Rong's forehead, something unexpected happened!
A branch that appeared out of nowhere struck the brick with lightning speed and swept Ma Rong away from Shi Yuan's sight in the blink of an eye.
Shi Yuan's eyes turned cold: "Keep an eye on Ah Da." Then she chased after him.
Huan Ni spat at Ah Da and placed it on his forehead.
Ah Da slowly woke up, but fainted again as soon as his eyes focused.
About ten minutes later, Shi Yuan returned, and she didn't look too good.
By this time, the rain had stopped, and Huan Ni, transformed into a seven-colored bird, perched on Shi Yuan's shoulder: "Didn't catch up?"
Shi Yuan nodded. She didn't have any special abilities now, and her physical reactions were only slightly more agile than ordinary people. The strange vines were incredibly fast, so it was normal that she couldn't catch up.
What's more normal is that the book she was wearing was originally a supernatural novel. She glanced at the red-clad female ghost with lifeless eyes, floating blankly—that was a spirit; the vines she had just seen were an anomaly. No problem, it's perfectly normal!
Normal my foot!
Ji Ying said that this is a traditional period novel, and the supernatural elements were added later in the story to make the female protagonist's character more well-rounded!
What's the situation now?
She even changed the beginning!
She doesn't like the apocalypse, so why would she like supernatural ghosts? Don't be ridiculous!
Rumble!
The thunder roared again, and the red-clad female ghost was jolted back to her senses. She floated to Shi Yuan's side and said in a low voice, "There are two large yellow croakers buried at the base of the wall of the North Mountain God Temple."
In the darkness of the night, Shi Yuan's eyes brightened.
"I knew you could see me!" The woman in red broke down, floating around and cursing for a while before calming down. "If you take the gold, can you at least go and tell my father?"
"Sure," Shi Yuan readily agreed.
When Shi Yuan got home, Shi Ling scolded her: "You're such a grown-up, and you don't even know how to take shelter from the rain."
"Your clothes are soaked, go take a shower right now!"
Shi Yuan smiled and was pushed into the room by Shi Ling's force.
A detached house in the town
Ma Rong was covered in a mess. He had just been in the mountains, and the branches and vines had dragged him along, so he inevitably bumped and rubbed against them. He had many scratches on his face and hands. Strangely, the wounds were not oozing blood, but an unknown green liquid.
Old house at the foot of Qinglin Bay
Huan Ni was getting irritated by the continuous thunder outside, so she flew over to the red-clad female ghost and started talking to her: "Aren't all ghosts afraid of being struck by lightning? Why don't you feel anything?"
"I'm scared too," the woman in red said, swinging her legs as she sat on the windowsill. "But I know this lightning won't kill me."
"What happened to Ma Rong just now? Your face was as pale as a ghost."
The female ghost in red remained silent.
Shi Yuan pushed the door open and came in at that moment. She locked the door behind her, sat cross-legged on the bed, and couldn't help but rub her hands together: "Huan Ni, give me all the gold."
Huan Ni flew to her side and spat out the gold.
“This piece of gold…” Shi Yuan picked up the gem-encrusted openwork gold ball, but before she could finish speaking, Huan Ni snatched it away: “Mine, mine, I accidentally brought it out.”
"The beauty of this golden ball is secondary; holding it in my hand makes me feel completely comfortable and clear-headed," Shi Yuan exclaimed. "What a wonderful thing!"
Huan Ni raised her head proudly: "Of course, how could something I collect be bad?"
"Don't underestimate this golden ball; these hollowed-out areas subtly contain the five elements of heaven and earth," Huan Ni said with a smug look. "Do you think these are ordinary gemstones?"
"No, these are Five Elements Spirit Stones!"
"Let alone now, even back when spiritual energy was abundant, Five Elements Spirit Stones were extremely rare!"
Shi Yuan nudged Huan Ni's chubby belly, now completely convinced that she wasn't a mutated animal. Such an extraordinary creature was indeed worthy of Huan Ni's status as an ancient divine beast.
Huan Ni held the golden ball for a while, admiring it, and reluctantly handed it to Shi Yuan: "Here you go."
Shi Yuan was surprised: "For me?"
"Such a good thing, how could I bear not to absorb it?"
"Who told you to absorb it?" Huan Ni exclaimed anxiously, "It's for you to keep things under control!"
"You have to return it to me once you regain your powers."
