Chapter 9 Digging for Ginseng
Shi Yuan mustered his strength, stomped his feet to gain momentum, and imagined leaping into the air like in the apocalypse.
She did jump, but only within the range of a normal person's high jump.
"Shi Yuan, come and catch me!" Huan Ni flapped her wings and flew closer to Shi Yuan. "Weren't you going to roast me? Come on!"
Shi Yuan's eyes flickered, ignoring Huan Ni's provocation, and she went off to look for ginseng on her own.
Huan Ni scratched her head and cheeks, feeling extremely uncomfortable. How could she amuse Shi Yuan if Shi Yuan didn't come to grab her?
Thinking of this, she unconsciously moved a little closer to Shi Yuan.
Shi Yuan smirked, then suddenly grabbed Huan Ni's long tail feathers, saying in a sinister tone, "Gotcha! Time to make a fire and roast the bird!"
"Oh my god, help!" Huan Ni tried her best to flap her wings to break free but couldn't. She hurriedly flattered, "I'm willing when I'm happy, I'm willing when I'm beautiful, please don't roast me, I don't taste good."
"I'm not lying to you, that 'Heavenly Root' is truly a top-grade tonic. Except for the unpleasant taste, it's good in every way!" Is this ruthless woman really going to roast her?
Shi Yuan certainly wouldn't actually roast Huan Ni. She smiled gently at Huan Ni, who thought things had taken a turn for the better. Huan Ni grinned foolishly, about to say something nice, when a mouthful of shit was stuffed into her mouth! Oh no, a giant dung bean!
"Ugh!" Huan Ni was completely disoriented, her body contorting from bird to snake to butterfly. "Ugh! Shi Yuan, I'll fight you to the death!"
The woman in red was dumbfounded; neither of these two wicked people were normal!
Amidst their playful banter, the human, the beast, and the ghost arrived at the edge of the cliff. Huan Ni, flying at a moderate height with the widest view, suddenly pointed to a spot on the cliff and shouted, "Ginseng!"
Shi Yuan looked at several angles, and finally, lying on the edge of the cliff, he saw: "Genuine wild ginseng, it can probably be exchanged for a lot of gold."
"You should dig it up first," Huan Ni said irritably.
Shi Yuan just looked at her.
"Why are you looking at me like that!" Huan Ni snapped. "I've already found you ginseng, figure out how to dig it yourself!"
“I can’t dig it down.” Shi Yuan gestured to the distance. “The cliff is too steep, there’s no foothold, I can’t get down.”
"Okay, Huanni, you go ahead."
Huan Ni exploded again: "How do we get there?"
“Fly over there and slowly dig with your claws,” Shi Yuan suggested.
Huan Ni glanced at her little paws: "No way!" The soil looked so thick that she might not be able to dig out the ginseng even if she broke her paws!
"Why don't you become an eagle?" Shi Yuan suggested again. "You can just pry it open a couple of times and you'll have one."
Huan Ni jumped up and down: "If I could turn into an eagle, I'd peck you out, you heartless bastard!"
Oh, I can't turn into an eagle~
"What kind of look is that?" Huan Ni snapped. "If you're so capable, why don't you come at me!"
Shi Yuan sighed, "People can't risk their lives for gold, can they?"
Shi Yuan tightened the vine, glanced at the cliff, and clicked her tongue: "If I fall off, I'll probably be smashed to pieces." After saying that, she tightened the vine again and pretended to climb down the cliff.
"Ugh!" Huan Ni stomped her foot. "Alright, alright, stop pretending! I'll go, I'll go, okay?"
"Good Huan Ni, I knew you were the most reliable!" Shi Yuan immediately untied the vines and gave Huan Ni a massage. "My future depends on you!"
Huan Ni was very pleased, and with a haughty "humph," she flapped her wings and flew down the cliff to painstakingly dig up the ginseng.
The soil on the cliff was indeed very hard, with solid rocks in between. I wonder how this ginseng grew here.
Huan Ni dug out the ginseng root after her colorful feathers had faded.
"You stinky ginseng, if I were in my prime, I could have easily stored you in my storage world with a wave of my hand." Huan Ni muttered to herself, sitting down on the ground and finally pulling the ginseng out with all her might. "Done!"
"Here you go!" Huan Ni raised her head high and threw the ginseng into Shi Yuan's arms, her face full of "I'm awesome, right?" "Come and praise me!"
Upon receiving the ginseng, Shi Yuan immediately showered Huan Ni with compliments, making Huan Ni extremely proud.
"Hmm!" She crossed her arms over her chest. "Although this ginseng isn't as good as the ones in my storage world, it's enough for you to exchange for gold."
Realizing what she had said, Huan Ni clutched her chest: "I can dig up ginseng for you, but don't even think about coveting my collection!" Her storage world is full of top-grade, exquisite items!
Shi Yuan: ...
"Don't worry, I have no interest in other people's property."
Actually, there are some. In the apocalypse, no matter whose resources they are, they all end up with the strongest fighters. But Huan Ni is her own beast, and since this is a peaceful era, Shi Yuan is actively changing her values every day.
The woman in red: ...Is this something she can hear? Huh? Can you two keep your secrets to yourself, away from ghosts? If you hear too much, even ghosts will feel a chill down their necks!
Shi Yuan and Huan Ni were naturally unaware of the desolate inner world of the red-clad female ghost. They were looking forward to a bright future and planning to go to the black market tomorrow to exchange ginseng for gold.
“Leave the black market to me. I’ll scout ahead tonight, and we’ll storm over there tomorrow!” Huan Ni was very curious about Shi Yuan’s superpower.
From the source, she should belong to the immortal and god system, while Shi Yuan's superpower should belong to another system. I don't know how powerful it is, or how it compares to the immortal and god system.
"Bang!" The man and the beast stopped talking at the same time and listened carefully. The red-clothed female ghost was very perceptive and floated towards the direction from which the sound came.
She floated back shortly afterward: "It's a man, and he seems to be dying."
Shi Yuan and Huan Ni exchanged a glance, pretended not to hear, and quickened their pace as they walked down the mountain.
Red-clad female ghost: ...No, she's still breathing!
I wish I could walk even faster!
Don't pick up the man's trash on the street!
The man lying on the ground, waiting to die, heard the commotion and his strongest will to live surged forth as he crawled toward Shi Yuan, crying out, "Help! Help me!"
The mountain wind was too strong, and Shi Yuan didn't hear anything!
The phantom wings created a double image.
"Trust, listen attentively..."
Shi Yuan slammed on the brakes, turned around without hesitation, ran a few steps, and squatted down in front of the man.
The man, clutching the letter, completely fainted.
Shi Yuan pulled out the bloodstained letter, which was indeed addressed to "Shi Ling" and had the address of the Beicheng Military Region on the envelope.
North City~
"It must have been attacked by a wild beast." Huan Ni stopped on Shi Yuan's shoulder, her tone icy. "The injuries are so severe, it's no use."
“Unless…” she looked at the ginseng in Shi Yuan’s arms.
Shi Yuan hugged the ginseng tightly: "Don't test people's humanity." She replied in the same cool tone, "I don't have that kind of thing!"
The female ghost in red drifted away silently.
"Shall we go?"
Shi Yuan shook his head.
"We need to save them." Huan Ni clicked her tongue and muttered under her breath, "Who are they that we need to save?"
"I didn't realize you were such a saint."
"I'll help you dig up ginseng, and I'll do a handstand..."
Shi Yuan pulled out the "Fan Tian Gen" from his pocket and asked Huan Ni seriously, "You just said this thing is a great tonic, are you serious?"
Huan Ni was taken aback, but Dou Dou's eyes flashed with excitement as she nodded vigorously: "It's wrapped!"
The next moment, Shi Yuan shoved the rest of the Heaven-Turning Roots into the man's mouth.
Wu Xingzhou could clearly sense his life force gradually draining from his body, but he was powerless to do anything about it. Just as he was feeling desperate, something was suddenly stuffed into his mouth.
He smiled bitterly, knowing that without potent tonics like ginseng and lingzhi, his injuries would likely not be enough to save his life.
He vaguely smelled ginseng on the comrade he had called out to!
The next instant, Wu Xingzhou was jolted awake by the overwhelming stench of excrement bursting from his mouth.
He was so weak he was gagging, thinking he'd met a kind person, but damn it! He'd run into a necrophiliac!
He glared at Shi Yuan with hatred, then suddenly froze, and then fainted, but his breathing became much more stable.
“He won’t die.” Huan Ni said softly, “But the Heaven-Turning Root isn’t a magic pill, and he still needs to see a doctor to check his injuries.”
"Otherwise, it's still uncertain."
Just as Shi Yuan was about to nod, his ears twitched as he heard a noise not far away.
It was Wu Xinghe's voice and a man's voice.
She glanced at the unconscious man; he was very tall and strong, and must be very heavy.
Shi Yuan nudged Huan Ni and whispered, "You're a member of the Onomatopoeia Society, right? Shout for help!"
Huan Ni understood in a second, and with her beak agape she let out a scream: "Help!" Her voice was very similar to that of the unconscious man.
"Did you hear someone shouting for help?" Wu Xinghe's panting voice rang out.
"No, never mind that, just give me two kisses, I've missed you so much!"
"Stop kidding, I really heard someone scream for help!"
If a murder occurs, they might get implicated since they're not far from the scene. Her good days are just around the corner, and they can't afford to have them ruined at this time!
"Two kisses are enough, go check on her quickly!"
The man reluctantly followed the sound and jumped up in shock when he saw a bloodied body lying on the ground. "There really is someone!" he exclaimed. He then checked the man's breath. "He's still breathing."
Wu Xinghe straightened her clothes and came out from behind the rocks. She glanced at the man's clothes and shoes, rolled her eyes, and said, "You should carry him down the mountain and find the captain right away."
“Okay, you can lend a hand.” The man had no objection and continued down the mountain without stopping.
Once she could no longer see anyone, Wu Xinghe took another mountain path and descended the mountain.
Shi Yuan stepped out from behind the tree, gazing thoughtfully at Wu Xinghe's retreating figure.
"You just gave away the life-saving grace to someone else like that?" Huan Ni circled over.
I almost forgot about the time this guy used to pretend to be a fish and live in the reeds.
"Are the rumors about her and those men in the village true?"
Huan Ni's eyes lit up: "You're actually interested in this?"
"Let me explain in detail!"
"Speaking of Wu Xinghe, she really isn't picky. She eats everything, and sometimes it even makes my eyes water."
"Let me tell you, once, she actually tried to pull a male educated youth into the house!"
Shi Yuan couldn't help but ask, "Did he give in?"
“No way, he broke free and ran away.” Huan Ni praised, “That’s just how innocent he is.”
"What did you just ask? Oh, it's true, of course!" She clicked her tongue. "Being a bride every night!"
"Tell me, did Wu Xinghe become Sun Guangyao's bride first, or Yang Fuguo's bride first?"
Huan Ni was taken aback, then quickly sorted out the relationship between the three: "You mean, Sun Guangyao hooked up with Wu Xinghe to make it easier to monitor you and Shi Ling, and Wu Xinghe simply hooked up with Yang Fuguo to take advantage of their proximity?"
Shi Yuan nodded, which meant that Xie Minyin indirectly ruined Shi Ling's second marriage.
She frowned, recalling Shi Ling's evasive manner towards Xie Minyin, and wondered if her first marriage had also been ruined by Xie Minyin.
