Chapter 31 A wise man doesn't fight a losing battle.
Even when Han Xi was in good health, she couldn't withstand him a second time, let alone in her current condition, she'd probably fall apart completely.
Shen Jiheng had already stepped on him, and Han Xi immediately pretended to be pitiful.
“Shen Jiheng, wait a moment. I was woken up by hunger. I didn’t even take my medicine until this late. Professor Yang specifically told me yesterday to take my medicine on time.”
"Then what?"
"My words were a bit harsh just now. I apologize. Please let me eat first before I can take my medicine."
A wise man doesn't fight a losing battle. Apologizing won't hurt him much, but if you continue to provoke him, the consequences could be dire.
Shen Jiheng enjoyed the feeling of taming her and nodded in satisfaction.
"That's a good boy!"
Han Xi smiled, gritted her teeth, pushed his foot down, and pointed to the door: "You go out first, I need to change my clothes."
Shen Jiheng crossed his arms and joked, "I've seen every inch of you, do I really need to go out?"
"That's true, if you like watching it, then go ahead and watch it!"
Han Xi didn't hesitate, enduring the soreness to get out of bed and start changing her clothes in front of him.
Shen Jiheng was initially curious as to why Han Xi was so agreeable today.
However, when he saw the large bruises on Han Xi's back that had not yet faded, as well as the scars left after the surgery, his eyes became bloodshot.
The person who pushed her down the stairs must have been incredibly cruel; they clearly wanted her dead.
When Han Xi finished changing her clothes and turned around, she saw that Shen Jiheng had already turned his face to the other side.
The reason she didn't insist on letting him leave was to let him see what bad things the woman he was protecting had done to him.
"I'm going to the study to take care of something. Remember to take your medicine."
"Don't worry, I also want to get better as soon as possible."
If I don't get better soon, how can I compete with them?
Shen Jiheng could sense her hostility and sighed inwardly as he left.
Qin Chuan was organizing materials in the study, waiting for him to return so he could hand over several important documents.
"President, these are several new projects that have been developed recently, and we need your signature."
Shen Jiheng's eyes were empty and unresponsive.
Qin Chuan whispered, "President, can you hear me?"
Shen Jiheng lifted the curtain and glanced at him, clearly not having heard.
Considering that he had just personally prepared food for his wife, it was likely that the two had argued again.
"President, I think you can explain this to your wife. After all, you are the victim. Now everyone is misunderstanding, which is very bad for you."
Shen Jiheng remained silent. He knew that Han Xi's desire for a divorce was no longer solely due to this matter, but also because of Bo Siye's return.
Back in college, she followed Bo Siyue around all the time, and they were recognized as the most loving couple in the entire school.
He even thought that Han Xi would marry him not only because of their past relationship of mutual benefit, but also because she wanted to find a trace of Bo Siye in him.
"If the president finds it difficult to speak up, I can help you put in a good word."
"Mind your own business!"
"I'm just standing up for you. Your wife's misunderstanding of you will affect your relationship."
"I have no feelings for her!"
Upon hearing this, Han Xi leaned against the wall and took a deep breath. In order to find something on Shen Jiheng, she followed him out.
She was surprised to hear about Gu Hanxi and realized that there seemed to be some secret hidden in it, which made her wonder if she had misunderstood Shen Jiheng.
But when he said he had no feelings for himself, there was no need to trace back any further.
Perhaps there really is some misunderstanding, but the fact that he's unwilling to explain it to her shows that he doesn't care about her.
It is often said that one should not seek answers lightly, for the outcome may be beyond one's capacity to bear.
But why won't he let go?
It's because he's too possessive; he'd rather destroy than give away what he's owned.
Before they knew it, it was Madam Shen's birthday.
Although it was a big birthday celebration, Mrs. Shen preferred quiet, so she didn't hold a large banquet. Her youngest daughter, Shen Mingzhu, also brought her fiancé back from abroad to celebrate her birthday.
The emerald necklace that Han Xi presented pleased Madam Shen greatly, and she took the opportunity to bring up the topic they discussed at their meetings.
"Han Xi, I really like the gift you gave me. I would be even happier if you could give me a grandson sometime."
Grandma Shen chimed in, "That's what I meant too. Han Xi, you've been married for three years, how come you're still not pregnant? Why don't you go get checked out?"
"That's right. Your grandma and I have been worried about it. If all else fails, we'll do IVF."
“Your mother is right. I don’t know how many more years I have left to live at this age. I just want to see my great-grandchild before I lie in my coffin.”
Han Xi was so embarrassed by being surrounded by this mother-in-law and daughter-in-law that she wanted to crawl into a hole. Why were these questions always asked to her, while Shen Jiheng never had to take any responsibility?
Unable to bear this pressure, Han Xi shifted the blame onto Shen Jiheng.
"Grandma, Mom, actually Ji Heng has been making me take medicine. He said he doesn't want children and forbade me to tell you."
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Jiheng, who was leisurely drinking tea across from him, suddenly felt two terrifying gazes burning towards him.
He followed the gaze and saw that the old lady, who usually greeted him with a smile, was now clenching her fists, as if she was about to hit him.
Looking at Han Xi's aggrieved expression with upturned eyes, what's going on?
"You brat, what are you looking at? Get over here right now!" Old Mrs. Shen didn't want to take action on such a fine day, but she couldn't help herself.
Shen Jiheng walked forward, confused, and Old Madam Shen slapped him on the back.
Shen Jiheng staggered back in pain, looking helpless: "Grandma, why did you hit me?"
"Tell me, what have you been doing for the past three years? You've prevented me from having any great-grandchildren to hold."
Han Xi pretended to stand up for him, and said with tears in her eyes, "Grandma, please don't blame Ji Heng. It must be because I didn't do a good enough job that he thinks I'm not fit to be a mother. It's my fault. If you want to hit someone, hit me!"
This added fuel to the fire was very effective, and even Madam Shen stepped in to help clean up the mess.
"Is this how you treat your wife, you brat?"
Shen Jiheng then realized that he had been tricked by Han Xi. She must have said bad things behind his back to make his mother so agitated.
Seeing her sobbing with her head down, she must be secretly laughing.
"It's so lively at home, we're late."
A clear laugh came from outside the door, breaking the noise inside; it was Shen Mingzhu returning.
Madam Shen only let go of her hand when she heard her beloved daughter's voice. The old lady also temporarily forgave the sinner when she saw her granddaughter return, muttering, "I'll settle the score with you later."
Shen Jiheng had a headache. He usually held a very high position at home, but he didn't know what Han Xi had done to cause his image to plummet.
You should know that Han Xi used to put him first in everything, but now she will trample Shen Jiheng underfoot as long as it makes her feel better.
This woman is truly heartless.
Shen Mingzhu led her fiancé forward and said happily, "Mom, happy birthday! This is my boyfriend, Zhou Yiming. He came back with me to celebrate with you."
Upon hearing the name, Han Xi turned around abruptly, attracting the attention of the other party. When they saw Han Xi's face, they were also surprised. Even Shen Jiheng, who was originally preoccupied, became serious.
The couple's expressions were so unusual that it was hard for Shen Mingzhu not to notice.
