Chapter 416 Empathy
After a few days of travel, Han Xi had a lot to pack and was busy until the early hours of the morning, completely exhausted.
She lay on the bed staring blankly at the ceiling. She had barely spoken to Shen Jiheng since returning home today, and she didn't know how he was doing at the old house, nor had she heard him say that he would be back tonight.
Judging from the time, he should have gone to bed long ago.
How come I already miss you after being apart for just a short while? Is it because I've gotten used to being inseparable these past few days?
Han Xi yawned and closed her eyes, but then she heard the sound of the doorknob turning. She quickly stood up and hid behind the door. She saw a tall, slender figure enter and immediately pounced on him.
Shen Jiheng was prepared and pulled the person into his arms.
"You're still awake? Are you waiting for me?"
Han Xi hugged his neck and laughed, "I didn't wait for you. Why did you come back so late?"
Shen Jiheng picked her up and said, "I'm not worried that someone won't be able to sleep if I don't come back. After all, she's been falling asleep in my arms these past few days. If I suddenly leave, she'll definitely feel very uncomfortable."
Han Xi wouldn't admit it, turning her head away and saying, "No way."
"It's okay if you don't admit it, anyway, I can't live without you. I was really sleepy and went to bed a long time ago, but for some reason, all I see when I close my eyes is your image, and there's a voice in my head."
Han Xi was used to Shen Jiheng's sweet talk coming out of his mouth.
She asked cooperatively, "What was that sound?"
Shen Jiheng gently placed her on the bed, stroked her face and said, "That voice told me that I missed her very much, so I went to find her, and that's why I came back."
Shen Jiheng looked at her with eyes full of tenderness, his affection completely genuine.
Han Xi wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him directly. She couldn't say it, but she could show how much she missed him with her actions.
Shen Jiheng smiled knowingly; this was also his favorite way...
The next day, in the morning
Shen Jiheng opened his eyes when he heard a noise and saw that Han Xi had changed her clothes and put on light makeup.
He propped himself up and sat up, the blanket slipping off his body and revealing his muscular chest, which made Han Xi so embarrassed that he immediately turned away.
"Are you shy? You weren't like this last night."
Han Xi turned around and rolled her eyes at him.
"I don't have time to banter with you, Xiao Chuang is already waiting for me downstairs."
Upon hearing this, Shen Jiheng remembered that today was the day Han Xi was taking him to visit Ji Qing in prison. He knew that Han Xi had always hated Ji Qing, and that she must be unhappy to have her take Han Chuang there.
"Why don't you take the day off today, and let me take him instead?"
Han Xi smiled and said, "I know you're worried about me, but it's okay. Xiao Chuang is actually not comfortable either. He can only relax when he's with me. Anyway, I appreciate your kindness."
Seeing that she had made up her mind, Shen Jiheng stopped trying to persuade her and simply moved his face closer.
"Shouldn't I give you a good morning kiss?"
Han Xi raised her hand and slapped his face, grinning mischievously, "I think two slaps will wake you up more. I'm heading out now, see you later."
Seeing that Han Xi was in good condition, Shen Jiheng was relieved.
Anyone would be unable to remain calm upon seeing the person who killed their mother. Shen Jiheng didn't know how she managed to convince herself to face it; perhaps it was all for the sake of an innocent Han Chuang.
When Han Xi came downstairs, she saw Han Chuang pacing back and forth in the living room, holding a small rag doll in his hand.
"Xiao Chuang, are you nervous?"
Han Chuang saw her come down and quickly went up to take her hand. He took a deep breath and said, "I'm a little nervous. I thought of a lot to say last night, but now I've forgotten them all. What should I do?"
Han Xi patted his head to comfort him, saying, "People tend to forget a lot of things when they're nervous. Take a deep breath and calm yourself down first."
Han Xi instructed him to place his hands in front of him and then slowly lower them to adjust his breathing.
After his breathing calmed down, Han Xi said, "We still have a lot of time. I'll go get some paper and pen. Tell me what you want to say, and I'll write it down for you so you won't forget it when we meet."
Han Xi empathized deeply, so every time she went to sweep her mother's grave, she would write down a long list, writing down everything she wanted to tell her mother, several long pieces in total.
Even so, she still felt there was still a lot to say, and now she's passing on this clumsy method to her child.
Han Chuang nodded gratefully: "I've remembered a few points now. Could you write them down for me, sister?"
Han Xi nodded gently, took out paper and pen and looked at him: "Go ahead, I'll start writing."
It would be a lie to say that she didn't hate Ji Qing, so naturally she wanted to see him even less.
But from the moment she made up her mind to adopt Han Chuang, she knew that some things were unavoidable and could only be faced.
Ji Qing has already paid the price for her mistakes with a lifetime of imprisonment, and her deceased mother will never come back.
The most hateful person in this tragedy is none other than Han Yue.
And wasn't my neglect of my mother back then also a sin?
She was saddened as she wrote, so she didn't want to deprive Han Chuang of his right to miss his mother and wanted to help them meet.
Before I knew it, I had filled a page. Seeing his current appearance reminded me of my past self.
"Sister, let's think about it on the way. That's all I can remember for now."
"Okay, if you're nervous, we can practice first."
Han Chuang hugged her arm and said, "Sister, it's so good to have you here. As long as you're by my side, I dare to say anything."
Han Xi patted his head to comfort him, saying that it would be fine if things just continued like this, and that no one should disturb their peace.
Upon arriving at the prison, Ji Qing was taken to the visiting room, thanks to prior arrangements.
Ji Qing had been notified three days earlier that Han Chuang was coming to visit, and she was so excited that she couldn't sleep for several days.
She knew her child hadn't had a good life before, and she was worried that he might be bullied in the Gu family.
However, when she saw her son, who looked even more noble and energetic than before, she was so moved that tears welled up in her eyes, and she almost knelt down before Han Xi.
"Mommy~"
Han Chuang choked out a cry, and with Han Xi nodding, he ran forward and hugged her.
Ji Qing never dreamed that one day Han Chuang would come to visit her and even hug her.
"Chuangchuang, my son, Mom misses you so much."
“I miss Mom too. My sister took us on a trip and I brought you a gift, a sleeping doll. You said you weren’t sleeping well before, and now it will be with you, just like I’m by your side.”
Han Chuang handed over the gift, and Ji Qing's hand trembled as she took it.
Tears streamed down her face as she looked at Han Xi, her eyes filled with boundless gratitude. Seeing how well Han Xi had raised the child, she didn't know what to say to her.
Han Xi took out a few pages of paper from her bag and reminded him, "Xiao Chuang, didn't you take a lot of photos to show your mother? Don't forget."
Han Chuang realized what was happening and quickly wiped away his tears, taking out his camera from his small bag.
"Mom, this is a children's camera that my sister bought for me. She taught me how to take a lot of pictures, and she said I have a talent for photography. I want to be a photographer when I grow up."
Han Chuang handed over the camera, but Ji Qing's eyes were full of tears, and the images she saw were all blurry.
Nevertheless, she nodded and praised, knowing that what the child showed her must be the best.
