Chapter 57: Lingering Feelings

Chapter 57 Only Lingering Feelings

Han Xi wondered if it was just her imagination, but when she made eye contact with Shen Jiheng in the elevator just now, she seemed to sense a hint of sadness in his eyes.

How is that possible!

How could someone as cold-blooded and selfish as Shen Jiheng have any worries?

Even if there is any, it's definitely about his nephew's situation, and has nothing to do with him.

She stopped walking because she didn't want to go out with him; perhaps it was better to make things clear here.

"Shen Jiheng, listen to me, I want to ask..."

Before Han Xi could finish speaking, he rushed forward and hugged her from behind, a sudden action that froze her.

Shen Jiheng's hands slowly tightened, greedily inhaling the scent emanating from her body.

He won't give up; this woman can only belong to him.

After regaining her senses, Han Xi struggled to break free and dodge to the side, turning back to see that his eyes were full of longing.

Han Xi sneered, "What's with that expression? Don't tell me you've fallen in love with me."

He used to look down on me, so what does this state of his now matter?

Even though he and Gu Hanxi had no romantic relationship, he still protected that woman and never blamed or punished Gu Hanxi, even when he was injured himself.

Now he's putting on a deeply affectionate act, which Han Xi finds laughable.

Shen Jiheng's gaze instantly turned cold. How hateful! His sincerity had become a joke in front of this woman.

"Han Xi, don't think too highly of yourself. I only have some lingering feelings for you."

"Then please clean up these lingering feelings as soon as possible, and then we'll go our separate ways."

Shen Jiheng's sharp eyes flashed, and a cold smile appeared on his face. No one could remain unscathed even if they made him uncomfortable, not even Han Xi.

Meeting his expression made Han Xi feel uneasy; he was clearly smiling, but there was no warmth in his eyes.

"Han Xi, I am now solemnly warning you that if you say anything that makes me angry again, the consequences will be severe."

Shen Jiheng didn't even seem to be speaking normally; instead, he was spitting out the words in a broken, grating way.

Why is he so angry? He hasn't lacked anything in this marriage.

Han Xi just wants freedom now, so why shouldn't he let go?

"What are you planning to do now?"

Shen Jiheng walked towards her, and Han Xi subconsciously stepped back, feeling that this person had suddenly become somewhat frightening.

Shen Jiheng pinched her face, his tall body leaning closer, the oppressive feeling making it hard to breathe.

"I will make Han Shu Group go bankrupt and disappear within a month, and I will also make it impossible for your law firm to continue operating in Chongqing."

"Shen Jiheng, are you sick...?"

"Um?"

Shen Jiheng's displeased gaze reminded her that he had already said something she didn't want to hear.

Shen Jiheng is a stubborn person; if you really displease him, he's capable of doing anything.

He got so angry just because I brought up divorce, he's insane.

"I'm giving you a chance to speak again. What do you want to say?"

Shen Jiheng didn't want to use this to suppress her, but Han Xi was too disobedient, and he didn't believe that these words wouldn't make her behave.

Han Xi gave a wry smile: "Is conquering me really that interesting?"

Shen Jiheng nodded: "Not bad, I'm happy."

Han Xi gritted her teeth and cursed him in her heart, but the current situation was not suitable for arguing.

A small act of impatience can ruin a great plan; Han Xi will not argue with him today.

"I just want to ask you, was it your order to beat up Liang Dong that day?"

It turns out she was here to investigate Gu Hanxi's case. He had been protecting her before, but now there was no need to.

"Didn't I just say I was thirsty?"

That bastard Shen Jiheng always tries to take advantage of her.

"It's just one sentence, can't you even say it?"

"A cup of coffee can make me talk."

Han Xi dismissed it with disdain. She could have asked the person involved herself; she didn't necessarily need to hear the answer from him.

"I'm sorry, I'm very busy and don't have time to go."

After Han Xi finished speaking, she was about to return to the elevator when Shen Jiheng said casually, "I can provide more clues. Isn't the job of a lawyer to find the truth? You don't seem very professional."

Holding back, Han Xi turned around with a smile and gestured for him to enter.

"Let's go then!"

"They really are flexible and adaptable." In the end, I couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark.

Han Xi took a deep breath to stay calm; solving the case was the key now.

Once the two sat down at the coffee shop, Han Xi realized that in the three years since their marriage, they had never gone out together, not even to a place like a coffee shop.

Shen Jiheng placed the menu in front of her: "This cafe has good pastries, order whatever you like."

Han Xi glanced at the pastries on the table; she had seen them all in Gu Hanxi's hospital room.

During that time, Gu Hanxi always said she had no appetite, and Shen Jiheng put in a lot of effort for the sake of the baby in her belly.

She received cakes and pastries from nearby shops, including this one.

Han Xi felt disgusted and casually ordered a coffee to get to the point.

"Can you answer my question now? Also, tell me about any other clues you mentioned."

Shen Jiheng casually crossed his legs, looking like he had plenty of time, which made Han Xi take a deep breath to stay calm.

When the coffee arrived, he replied, "I didn't give the order."

Lu Chen was indeed suspicious.

"Did you give them the authority to act without orders?"

"No!"

That makes sense. Shen Jiheng is an arrogant person who cannot tolerate others going against him and dislikes others overstepping their bounds. Everything must be done through his orders.

"What did you just say you were going to provide me with?"

Shen Jiheng picked up his coffee, took a small sip, and elegantly put it down, displaying his gentlemanly demeanor.

Han Xi frowned, wondering when this person had become so long-winded.

“Lu Chen explained to me that he was afraid someone would hurt Gu Hanxi. At that time, I was only worried about the child and didn’t think much about it.”

"And now?"

"It's certain that Lu Chen's relationship with her is special, which is why he's protecting her like this."

It turned out that Shen Jiheng had already noticed, but thought he was being kept in the dark.

Shen Jiheng said bluntly, "I don't care what their relationship is. Now that the child is gone, she has lost her usefulness."

Han Xi couldn't help but give him a thumbs up.

"As expected of you, you're truly ruthless. People with no value are worthless to you."

Shen Jiheng's eyes turned cold. Han Xi remembered that he had said there was a reason why he treated Gu Hanxi this way before. This woman had killed someone important to him.

To ease the awkwardness, Han Xi picked up her coffee, took two sips, and forced a smile.

"So this matter has nothing to do with you directly, and I believe you won't be involved in this case anymore."

Han Xi agreed to come with him because she was worried that he would interfere again.

Shen Jiheng understood her thoughts. "Don't worry, I won't interfere anymore."

Han Xi breathed a sigh of relief; he had finally uttered something sensible.

"That's good. I have something to take care of first. I hope you won't make things difficult for me."

After Han Xi finished speaking, she stood up. Shen Jiheng quickly grabbed her wrist and looked up at her intently.

"What exactly do you want in order for you to move back?"

"Let's all calm down first."
