Chapter 68 Good intentions misunderstood
Although Han Xi married Shen Jiheng with a prescription, it was because she truly loved this man.
She had a crush on him for four years in college but failed to win his favor, and that's how she ended up marrying him.
After marriage, Shen Jiheng was cold and indifferent to her. Apart from being enthusiastic in bed, he hardly communicated with her.
Even so, Han Xi still tried her best to be a good wife, obeying him in every way and playing the role of a good daughter-in-law who was filial to the elders, all in the hope that one day Shen Jiheng would see her goodness and change his opinion of her.
Only now does she realize that this man's heart can never be warmed, which makes her determined to divorce him.
Who would have thought that she would find out she was pregnant at this time? She had longed to have his child so much.
Unfortunately, it came at the worst possible time!
"Okay, Xixi, you need to control your emotions now. Let's talk about it when we get home."
Thanks to Zhuo Qingqian's presence by his side, Han Xi felt somewhat comforted.
To take care of Han Xi's feelings, Zhuo Qingqian stayed with her at the apartment tonight.
Thinking about the divorce tomorrow, Han Xi stroked her flat stomach, where a little life was growing.
Should she stay, or...?
Han Xi curled up, unable to find a suitable answer; she simply couldn't bear to part with it.
Zhuo Qingqian hugged her from behind and whispered, "Xi Xi, don't be sad. Whatever decision you make, I will support you."
Han Xi's nose tingled, and she nodded with red eyes.
"Thank you, Qianqian. It's so good to have you here."
This is an issue that definitely needs to be considered carefully. After the divorce, she needs to focus on her work. If she takes a child with her, it will affect her career path.
After years of waiting, can she really let go?
Having not slept all night, Han Xi looked terrible when she woke up in the morning. She made a special effort to put on a tight makeup look and chose a red short skirt that she rarely wore, making her look radiant.
When she appeared at the Civil Affairs Bureau in this state, Shen Jiheng's face darkened.
"You're not even free yet, and you're already letting loose. You seem to be in a great mood."
The smell of alcohol still lingered on Shen Jiheng; he had been drinking for most of the night because he was in a terrible mood.
He was still in a daze when he woke up. How could the woman who used to try so hard to stay by his side now be willing to hurt her body to get a divorce?
In the end, it still couldn't withstand the destructive power of the white moonlight!
"Of course it's good, who doesn't want freedom?"
"It's as if I've imprisoned you all these years. You're the one who's imprisoned yourself. I've never asked anything of you."
Han Xi nodded with a wry smile, realizing that everything she had done was for him.
Well, that's enough, I don't want to argue anymore.
"It's almost time, it's our turn."
Han Xi was about to hand over her documents when Shen Jiheng grabbed her hand.
"Han Xi, I'm asking you one last time, are you really sure about this?"
Han Xi calmly pulled his hand away and handed over the documents without hesitation.
"Let's leave this marriage with some dignity at the end, and be decisive."
How ridiculous!
Feeling resentful that it seemed like he was the one lingering, Shen Jiheng handed over the completed form immediately, even faster than Han Xi.
After reviewing the documents submitted by the two individuals, the staff members asked them questions carefully.
"Are you two really determined to get a divorce? Once I stamp your seal, you will no longer be husband and wife."
Han Xi replied first, "I've thought it through, no need to persuade me anymore."
The staff sighed, noting that there were few couples getting married these days, but divorces were rampant. Looking at the two good-looking couple, they couldn't help but offer a few more words of advice.
"It takes ten years of cultivation to share a boat ride, and a hundred years to share a pillow. Being together is fate, so never break up because of a moment of impulse."
Shen Jiheng said coldly, "If you keep advising like this every day, has the divorce rate decreased?"
Staff member: "......"
It turned out that his words were being ignored. The staff member shook his head with a wry smile and said no more.
Shen Jiheng was simply indignant at Han Xi's firm attitude; why should he have any other lingering feelings?
Just as he was about to urge the phone in his pocket to ring, he picked it up with displeasure and saw that it was the old lady calling.
They kept their divorce a secret from their families, so this phone call must mean something's wrong.
Just as the staff was about to stamp his seal, he coughed lightly.
"Wait a moment, I need to take this call."
Han Xi frowned. This guy was really funny. Why did he have to stop people from working when he was on the phone?
The moment the call was answered, all I heard was a string of curses: "Shen Jiheng, you little bastard, why did you keep Han Xi's pregnancy a secret from me?"
Shen Jiheng was completely confused and subconsciously looked at Han Xi.
Han Xi was confused by his gaze; what had he heard?
Shen Jiheng took a few steps back and asked in surprise, "How did you know about this?"
“If Dr. Li hadn’t called me this morning to congratulate me, I wouldn’t have known. Even if it’s only been a little over three weeks and it’s not appropriate to talk about it everywhere, we’re family, you should have told me.”
Han Xi didn't expect that even though she went to another hospital to avoid the Shen family, they still had acquaintances there who spread the news to Old Madam Shen this morning.
Shen Jiheng's pupils dilated, his eyes filled with confusion. His wife was pregnant, yet he hadn't received a single word of news.
What's even more hateful is that Han Xi kept herself in the dark and came to get a divorce as if nothing had happened.
"It was my oversight."
"You silly boy, you don't know anything. You need to be careful in the early stages of pregnancy. Bring her over later and let us take care of her at the old house."
Shen Jiheng agreed, then turned around and saw Han Xi urging the staff to stamp the documents quickly. He hung up the phone, strode forward, and grabbed all the documents from the table.
Han Xi watched in astonishment as he tore up the documents and the divorce certificate that was about to be stamped. She tried to snatch them back, but it was too late.
"Shen Jiheng, what are you doing? Are you crazy? Didn't we make a promise? Are you going to go back on your word?"
Ignoring her anger, Shen Jiheng pulled her outside.
Han Xi had no idea what had gotten into him; he had just received a phone call and suddenly turned into this.
Shen Jiheng pulled her all the way to the parking lot, but Han Xi couldn't stand it and shook off his hand.
"Just tell me what you want to say and where you want to take me."
Shen Jiheng asked sternly, "Are you pregnant?!"
Han Xi was shocked. How did he know about this? Zhuo Qingqian would never betray him, so where did he get the information?
She forced herself to remain calm and denied it: "That's not true."
Shen Jiheng didn't understand why she was being so stubborn, still pretending even at this point.
He grabbed Han Xi's hand again and opened the car door.
"If you don't want to admit it, then come with me to the hospital for a checkup and you'll find out."
Han Xi tried to break free, but the grip tightened, and her wrist was even squeezed painfully.
"Shen Jiheng, let go, I'm not going."
The more she resisted, the more Shen Jiheng felt something was wrong. Ignoring her struggles, he forcibly shoved her into the car and locked the doors.
Shen Jiheng didn't know what words to use to describe his feelings at this moment. A mix of complex emotions were swirling within him. He was about to become a father.
However, there is still a problem: if Han Xi keeps the child, she will not be able to donate bone marrow to Shen Tongtong.
After all, this surgery needs to be performed multiple times, and anesthesia is required each time, which is naturally not allowed for pregnant women.
