Chapter 9: No Divorce, Only Widowhood

“It was my fault for ignoring your birthday, I’ll make it up to you on the lunar calendar. But divorce… Han Xi, stop making a scene.” Shen Jiheng softened his tone, speaking to her gently for once.

"Making a scene?" Han Xi's voice was indifferent. "It seems that after three years of marriage, President Shen not only doesn't know my birthday, but also doesn't know my personality. Does President Shen think that the divorce is a tactic I used to gain your attention?"

Han Xi sneered as he shook the wound on his ribs, causing his face to lose even more color in pain.

Her coldness made Shen Jiheng frown. He took a deep breath, unable to hide his frustration, and pinched his twitching temple, where the veins on his forehead were visibly bulging.

This woman is really planning to divorce him; she wants to do so during the break when Bo Siye is back!

"In my life, Shen Jiheng, I have never been divorced, only widowed!"

He gritted his teeth, uttered those words, slammed the door, and left, giving Han Xi no chance to continue to infuriate him.

Otherwise, he was afraid he would strangle this seemingly weak woman who could always make him furious!

Shen Jiheng stood outside the ward with a grim expression. Qin Chuan, seeing his boss's expression, dared not utter a sound.

The wife never intentionally provokes the boss, but this time she must have been furious.

However, what those nurses said in the hospital would surely unsettle anyone, including Mrs. Shen...

"Go and find out why Madam is hospitalized." Shen Jiheng's voice was cold, but Qin Chuan took the order and immediately left. Every second he spent with his boss was torture; it was better to get to work.

Han Xi's tense body relaxed, the pain in her ribs making her face pale and cold sweat pouring down her forehead.

The pain from the bone injury was the most unbearable. She didn't even dare to breathe. The greater the strength she had used to confront Shen Jiheng, the more excruciating the pain was tormenting her body now.

The pain of a broken bone can rival the pain of a broken heart.

Therefore, not loving Shen Jiheng and leaving him isn't so painful...

Han Xi thought so.

Her eyelashes trembled as she closed her eyes, and she slowed her breathing, but this clearly did little to alleviate the pain in her ribs.

Sensing someone standing in front of him, Han Xi opened his eyes.

Shen Jiheng was holding a hot towel in his hand, and he was about to lift her blanket.

"Get out." The pain made him irritable, and Han Xi slapped his hand away.

Shen Jiheng paused, his tense jawline radiating a hint of coldness, but his voice softened, "A warm compress can help relieve the pain."

Han Xi does want a divorce, that's true, but the pain she's in is also real.

Professor Yang had mentioned that physical pain relief could be used, but Zhuo Qingqian was too busy and embarrassed to have the medical staff lift her clothes...

"I'll give you pain relief first, and once you're asleep, I'll move you to a better room." Shen Jiheng composed himself, his tone carrying a hint of comfort and reassurance.

"Mr. Shen, I thank you in advance for changing the ward, but we can skip physical analgesia. It's really not suitable for us to do that right now."

Han Xi turned her face away; the warmth the man offered at this moment was no longer a timely help.

He wasn't there when we really needed him, so his presence now is meaningless.

"You won't let me touch you, Han Xi. What part of you haven't I seen in these three years? As soon as Bo Siye returned to the country, you made a scene about divorce and acted like you were keeping your chastity intact. Did you think he came back to find you? He came back to get engaged!" Shen Jiheng's face was gloomy.

Han Xi's clear black and white eyes showed confusion, but quickly regained their clarity.

"My decision to divorce is my business, what does it have to do with Bo Siyue?" Besides, she had no idea Bo Siyue was back. "President Shen, don't assume I'm the same kind of person just because you think you are!"

He spoke with such force that his injured ribs ached, and his already pale face turned even paler.

When Shen Jiheng heard these words, he realized that Han Xi was genuinely protecting Bo Siye.

"You'd better remember that until I sign the divorce papers, you are still my wife, Shen Jiheng!"
