Chapter 007 A Secluded Side Story - Half-Awake (Part Two)
Knock knock.
A soft knock on the door interrupted Yu Qingzhou's reading.
He put down his manuscript and saw Shen Yun push the door open and enter.
"How are you feeling?" Shen Yun asked routinely.
Yu Qingzhou smiled, swallowing back the "godfather" that was about to come out, and instead smiled and said, "I'm fine, thanks to Dr. Shen."
Shen Yun chuckled softly upon hearing this, her gaze falling on the stack of manuscripts on Yu Qingzhou's lap. She raised her eyebrows slightly and asked, "What, are you reviewing manuscripts so early in the morning?"
"Just taking a look." Yu Qingzhou chuckled and moved the manuscript to the table. Seeing that Shen Yun didn't seem to care, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"so……"
Shen Yun nodded and gently pushed up her glasses: "Actually, you've almost recovered, but it's best not to overexert yourself to avoid a relapse."
Whether it was Yu Qingzhou's imagination or not, Shen Yun's expression seemed somewhat subtle when she said the last sentence.
The scene before her eyes overlapped with the plot of the novel she had just read, and Yu Qingzhou was momentarily dazed.
He repeatedly told himself that this man was not his "godfather".
He was Dr. Shen, his attending physician; they had only known each other for a few weeks. In fact, for most of that time, he was in a state of [disorientation].
—But he is indeed 'deeply charming'.
At the same time, another voice whispered something furtively in his ear.
"Mr. Yu doesn't seem very happy?" Shen Yun suddenly said.
Yu Qingzhou immediately shook her head, trying to shake all the previous sounds out of her mind.
Although she was quite reluctant to leave Dr. Shen in front of her, there were still piles of unread manuscripts waiting there. If she didn't go back soon, Sister Xun might kill her.
A month ago, Yu Qingzhou was involved in a traffic accident.
His vehicle skidded off the median strip and crashed into a plane tree on the roadside.
Fortunately, apart from minor abrasions and a mild concussion, Yu Qingzhou was unharmed.
After that, Yu Qingzhou slept for a full day and night, and when she woke up, she was still in a daze.
According to the hospital's diagnosis, he has no major health problems. He just needs to continue to rest and be observed for a short period of time before he can be discharged.
However, after resting for two days, Yu Qingzhou's symptoms progressed—one day, he suddenly hugged the young Dr. Shen in the corridor and started calling him "Dad".
The scene was quite chaotic at one point.
After a brief pause, Shen Yun, one of the parties involved, quickly got into character and naturally calmed the emotionally agitated patient, his technique as skillful as that of a dedicated stay-at-home dad.
Meanwhile, a nurse who was watching quietly took out her phone and turned on the camera...
Later, under the coaxing of that young nurse, Yu Qingzhou witnessed his own 'publicly recognizing relatives' feat, and his face immediately turned red and white in a rather strange way.
"You've really hit the jackpot."
The nurse teased him with a grin, "Many people here have all sorts of crushes on Dr. Shen, but they haven't even held hands with him. Unlike you, who was practically clinging to him the moment you met him."
As she said this, she looked up and saw Shen Yun coming towards the information desk. She immediately stuck out her tongue and continued to work on the paperwork.
Yu Qingzhou immediately stood up straight: "What brings Dr. Chen here?"
"You're being discharged from the hospital today, so I came to see if there's anything I can help you with."
Shen Yun spoke these words with a completely calm expression, as if they had been agreed upon beforehand.
Yu Qingzhou didn't recall this incident, but since the other party had said so, she naturally felt it was her duty to comply. So she smiled and said, "It's truly my honor."
Before leaving, the nurse winked at Yu Qingzhou, her smile full of meaning.
Yu Qingzhou ignored the girl and instead subtly observed Shen Yun today. She wasn't wearing a white lab coat, but rather a set of casual black clothes. This color might have seemed a bit somber on someone else, but Shen Yun's fair skin and natural clothes hanger made her look pleasing to the eye.
Yu Qingzhou was also somewhat lost in thought, but he looked at the other person as if he were looking at someone else, someone who didn't exist...
Did you write that story?
While driving, Shen Yun suddenly spoke.
Yu Qingzhou was stunned for a moment before realizing what the other person was asking. He stared nervously at Shen Yun in the rearview mirror, but Shen Yun's expression remained normal, as if it were just a casual question.
"I flipped through a few pages because I saw the name, sorry," the young man then added.
"nothing."
Yu Qingzhou managed to utter a sentence; he wasn't angry, just a little ashamed.
Because the protagonist of that novel not only coincidentally shared the same name as the two of them, but also revealed subtle hints of ambiguous feelings between the lines.
The nurse's teasing words echoed in her mind, and Yu Qingzhou couldn't help but start having difficulty breathing again.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Shen Yun asked with concern.
"It's an old problem; I easily get short of breath when I feel stuffy," Yu Qingzhou said with a smile.
Shen Yun then lowered the car window.
A gust of wind blew in through the window. Yu Qingzhou took a deep breath, feeling her mind clearer, and explained, "It was delivered along with my personal belongings. I don't know how it ended up—"
That person knows what happened back then...
Thinking of this, Yu Qingzhou unconsciously clenched her fists tighter and tighter on her knees.
Noticing that Shen Yun was observing her out of the corner of her eye, Yu Qingzhou was taken aback at first, then smiled casually and said, "Well, I was really startled by this coincidence."
"What if it's not a coincidence?" Shen Yun said softly.
Yu Qingzhou's eyelids twitched: "What do you mean?"
"Art originates from life," Shen Yun replied with a slight smile.
Yu Qingzhou frowned.
He and Shen Yun had only known each other for a short time. If there really was someone who was familiar with both of them and seemed to know the inside story from back then, who could it be, and what would that person's purpose be?
"Think about it carefully. Maybe the answer is right here."
As they parted, Shen Yun said this, and he gently tapped Yu Qingzhou's forehead with his index finger. Yu Qingzhou touched that spot of skin and felt a burning sensation.
* Home invasion robbery, shooting.
Yu Qingzhou found a yellowed old newspaper and used a marker to underline the information she thought was important.
The scene from that day kept replaying in my mind.
A man lying in a pool of blood, a half-open wardrobe, a round bullet hole, a ringing bell, a warm hand, a scent—
Suddenly his eyes widened. Yes, the smell!
His wrist began to tremble.
After a long pause, he finally managed an extremely difficult smile.
So that's how it is...
Yu Qingzhou murmured.
The cabinet door behind him suddenly clicked softly. He nervously turned around, his eyes fixed on what was behind him—was that his dead father's approving remark? (Excerpt from p15)
