Chapter 015 Orchid's Independent Side Story - A Joke (Part Two)

"Would you like to buy some flowers? Sir, madam, why not buy one for someone you love? Look at these flowers, how beautiful they are!"

The little child weaved through the crowd, everyone around him hurrying along, the chaotic footsteps echoing in his ears, but it seemed no one was willing to stop for this insignificant call.

The child was not discouraged; he kept his innocent smiling face upturned as he watched the hurried figures.

"Want to buy flowers?"

After what seemed like the umpteenth time it was repeated, an unexpected reply suddenly rang out from nearby.

"I'll buy it," a deep, magnetic voice said, sounding particularly captivating in the twilight.

The child looked up at the sound and saw a well-dressed man leaning down to look at him, seemingly genuinely interested in buying flowers. His smile brightened even more: "Thank you very much, esteemed sir. How many would you like to buy?"

"Well... I can buy as many as you have." The man smiled slightly, his jewel-like eyes curving into a beautiful arc as he looked at the child with certainty.

"all?"

"all."

The child hesitated at first, but became overjoyed after receiving an affirmative answer.

—Because finishing work early means I can go back to my beloved brother sooner.

He immediately picked up a large bouquet of bright red roses and presented it to the other person with both hands. The man took the flowers and then took out a thick wad of banknotes from his wallet and handed them directly to the child.

The child took the money, carefully counted out some, and then stuffed most of it back into the man's hand.

Just as he was packing his things to leave, the man suddenly called out to him.

"How about I take care of you?" It was a rather sudden question.

Considering the man's sophisticated attire and bulging wallet, if this is true, it might be a good choice.

But the child shook his head almost without hesitation and then earnestly refused, saying, "Thank you for your kindness, sir, but I already have an older brother."

To everyone's surprise, the man who was firmly rejected was not angry at all. Instead, he smiled and continued to ask, "What about your brother? Is someone taking care of him?"

Upon hearing this, the child's expression showed a moment of conflict.

"Actually, I can..."

He muttered to himself, but before he could finish, his eyes lit up, and he called out "Brother!" in a clear voice in a certain direction, then ran off towards it.

Yu Qingzhou reached out and took the child who happily rushed into her arms.

Why that expression?

He stared into the child's eyes, his brows furrowing involuntarily: "Did someone bully you?"

The child shook his head like a drumbeat, then suddenly turned around to look behind him as if he had remembered something.

Yu Qingzhou followed the child's gaze and saw a man slowly walking towards them. A bright red rose bloomed in the man's hand, like fire and blood.

...

"So after seven years, you still won't forgive me?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Yu Qingzhou closed the door and expressionlessly placed the roses into the vase.

The man suddenly hugged him from behind, pressing his chin against the latter's shoulder tightly, his low voice trembling slightly like a child who had done something wrong: "I was wrong, I really know I was wrong."

"The girl and he both had beautiful green eyes."

Yu Qingzhou muttered to herself, while feeling the weight on her shoulders seem to have increased.

A man's coquettish murmur came from behind: "I know, I know, you've always liked those kinds of eyes, but I don't like them... I don't like the way you look at those people."

She paused, then added, "Mingming only needs to look after me."

“That disappearance back then wasn’t an accident,” Yu Qingzhou suddenly said. As he spoke, the young man accidentally plucked a rose petal, and the red sap immediately stained his slender fingers.

The man paused slightly upon hearing this, then gently took the other person's fingers, which were stained red with juice, and kissed them reverently to his lips.

Sensing the other person's uncontrollable tremor in their shoulders, the man suddenly smiled with pleasure.

“That girl isn’t it either,” he whispered in the young man’s ear, like a devil’s whisper.

A theater late at night appears before my eyes.

—Let's go back to that night.

Lan leaned back in the seat in front of her, resting her chin on her hand as she looked at the stage.

His cat-like eyes sparkled with interest, like a child watching the circus for the first time.

Whenever Yu Qingzhou saw that kind of gaze, she would think of her childhood, the age when she would stare greedily at the performances on stage, unable to take her eyes off them.

Yu Qingzhou bent down to pick up the hat that had fallen to the ground. To his surprise, there was something extra inside the hat. He was slightly taken aback, looked around, and finally his gaze fell on a seat in the front row.

On the way to the lounge, Yu Qingzhou encountered a strange girl who was looking around as if she was looking for someone.

Seeing this, Yu Qingzhou took the initiative to step forward and greet her: "Hi, is there anything I can help you with?"

The girl was clearly startled by him, which was understandable, as Yu Qingzhou was still wearing exaggerated clown makeup, and his bright red lips looked like they were about to bleed.

“…Someone like that? I don’t remember.” Yu Qingzhou shook her head.

Disappointment flashed in the girl's deep green eyes as she turned and walked away dejectedly.

Yu Qingzhou gently called her from behind.

A red rose tied with a blue bow was gently placed in the girl's hand, and she looked at the unfamiliar clown with a puzzled expression.

“Red complements the color of your eyes very well,” the latter said softly, her tone friendly and sincere.

The girl smiled gratefully upon hearing this.

Yu Qingzhou watched the girl's figure disappear into the distance... just like many years ago, when he watched his young lover walk towards a door, then suddenly turn back, smile, and wave goodbye, her green eyes more precious than the most precious jade in the world.

Unfortunately, his lover did not make it out of that door.

They ultimately failed to recover.
