Chapter 170: Nothing Has Changed Except for a Change of Heart

Chapter 170: Nothing Has Changed Except for a Change of Heart

Ji Qingwu asked again, "Where exactly are they?"

Wei Ting knew how stubborn this woman was; sometimes she was even more single-minded than an ox.

He reached out and pointed inside the house, giving her his answer.

Ji Qingwu glanced back. The door was tightly closed, and no sound came out. She didn't know what method Wei Ting had used, but they should be safe.

She said, "General Wei barged directly into my courtyard. Isn't that inappropriate?"

Wei Ting countered, "If I send you my calling card, will you see me?"

Ji Qingwu did not answer; his silence spoke volumes.

Wei Ting said, "There's nothing wrong with me coming here. I've been waiting for you here the whole time, and I haven't delayed your important discussions with the Princess."

He hadn't just arrived; he happened to run into Princess Huachang's carriage outside the Ji residence and waited for her for a while in the Wutong Garden.

Ji Qingwu knew he couldn't blame the guards, because with Wei Ting's skills as the General of the North, infiltrating the Ji residence would be a piece of cake.

She said with slight annoyance, "This is the inner quarters of the Ji family. General Wei, is it not an insult to a gentleman to trespass into a woman's private quarters?"

Wei Ting smiled as if he had heard a joke, his smile visibly widening, but he remained unmoved.

He shook his head and said, "Does the Fifth Doctor always think I'm a virtuous gentleman?"

Ji Qingwu did not want to bring up the past again.

Just like I told Mr. Qiao, once it's over, let it be over.

She felt that she had done nothing wrong to Wei Ting in the matter of the strategy going wrong; at most, she had only caused him some annoyance.

Now, regardless of Wei Ting's reasons for wanting to marry her, Ji Qingwu decided to make things clear.

"General Wei, what did you ask about at the morning court session today?"

She said, her eyes bright and alert, "I will not agree."

Although Wei Ting was prepared for her to refuse, he was still surprised to hear her speak so clearly and say that she would not agree to marry him.

His expression darkened, and he said sarcastically, "The Fifth Doctor used to pursue me relentlessly, so why is he avoiding me like the plague now? Women's minds are truly hard to understand. I just wanted to fulfill your wish from five years ago, so why are you rejecting me?"

Ji Qingwu raised his eyebrows and said, "General Wei also said that it was five years ago, and people's hearts are most easily changed then, not to mention that so many days and nights have passed."

Wei Ting rarely saw her sharp-tongued in front of him; in the past, she was always gentle and submissive.

Having served in the military for many years, he had long since developed a fearless and intimidating aura that could deter enemy troops.

He strode over, his imposing manner showing no sign of abating.

Ji Qingwu felt a chill run down her spine and bit her lower lip, but she didn't back down. Instead, she looked straight back at him.

Wei Ting walked up to her and asked coldly, "The Fifth Physician said that people's hearts are fickle. Have you changed your mind? Who have you taken a fancy to?"

Ji Qingwu's bright eyes flickered slightly: "There is nothing. Marriage should be done according to the wishes of the parties involved. I am unwilling, so why should the general make things difficult for me?"

Wei Ting chuckled and moved a little closer to her.

"Five doctors, you haven't changed much, you're still as easy to understand as ever."

Ji Qingwu felt this was not a compliment, and said bluntly, "General Wei has changed a lot, but his thoughts are still so unpredictable."

Wei Ting's voice turned cold: "You're lying."

"You were lying when you said you loved me."

Ji Qingwu looked away first, realizing that Wei Ting had always known that she wasn't being sincere.

But if you pretend too much, who can say for sure whether there's even a trace of sincerity mixed in?

Wei Ting stared at her softly shaped profile and said in a low voice, "You're still lying when you say you don't have anyone you like."

Ji Qingwu's eyelashes trembled. Just now, when he said the words "changed his mind," the image of another person appeared in her mind.

But the more you try to hide your feelings, the more you can't conceal them.

Ji Qingwu's eyes flickered even more intensely, even more so than the shimmering light on the surface of the small pond not far away.

This time, Wei Ting genuinely smiled.

His tone was mocking, and it was unclear who he was mocking: "You really haven't changed anything except your heart."

He lowered his head, getting closer, and saw that her face was even more beautiful than before, like morning dew on flowers, clear and sparkling, beautiful beyond compare.

"This face is still so deceptive."

This distance was far beyond the safe zone, and Ji Qingwu took a step back uncomfortably, his tone containing a threat.

"This is the Ji family residence. General Wei must also consider the Empress Dowager's feelings when making decisions."

Even after she moved out, Wei Ting didn't care.

"Why don't you make a sound? You should shout it out so that the Ji family can come and see, and so that the whole city will know that I'm in your yard."

He completely disregarded the reputation of the Ji family and the Empress Dowager, and didn't care whether she was willing to marry him.

Ji Qingwu lowered her gaze and glanced at the flowers and plants in the fence at her feet. The long, leafy grass had grown to about half her height and was swaying at her waist.

She reiterated, "General Wei, what is the purpose of your visit? If you wish to ask my opinion, I have already clearly told you that I do not wish to marry."

Wei Ting said, "I don't mean to interfere in your affairs. I'm here to confirm two things."

"The first one has already been confirmed."

What did he confirm?

Ji Qingwu looked slightly confused, but his left hand quietly went behind his back and gripped something tightly.

“Now, there’s only one item left,” Wei Ting’s voice rang out again.

What is it?

Wei Ting suddenly reached out and tried to put his arm around her shoulder.

Ji Qingwu sensed his intention and instead moved closer to his embrace.

She spoke words of rejection toward him, yet her body pressed closer to him. Wei Ting looked surprised and stared at her blankly for a moment.

Ji Qingwu tilted her head back, as if to reciprocate his intimate behavior, and raised her fair left hand to gently reach towards his neck.

He felt her cool fingertips touch his skin, trembling slightly, as she gently pressed on the spot where his artery was located.

Wei Ting's arm was initially just outstretched, but now he subconsciously wanted to pull the soft, fragrant woman into his embrace.

Just then, a rustling sound came from the sycamore tree behind them, which provided ample shade.

A man dressed in black, with his face covered, jumped down from the tree.

With a swift movement of his short sword, he separated Wei Ting from Ji Qingwu.

Ji Qingwu knew at a glance that this person was Sihai.

Unlike Sanchuan, Sihai's eyes carried the unique spirit of youth, sharp as a newly sharpened sword.

Upon seeing him appear, Wei Ting involuntarily took two steps back.

The man in black was extremely skilled at concealing his presence; even he couldn't detect the other's location, but a knowing glint flashed in his eyes.

Ji Qingwu had not expected that the secret guards sent to her by the emperor would make their move at this moment.

If it were to really fight Wei Ting, Si Hai would still be too inexperienced. She walked to Si Hai's side.

Wei Ting's eyes had concealed all emotion, and a smile reappeared on his lips.

"At the morning court session, there was a long line of men wanting to marry you. What, are you keeping one at home?"

Ji Qingwu did not refute him, but instead smiled gently in agreement.
