Chapter 233 Let's go back to see our daughter together

"Qingwu, what are you doing here...?"

Ji Qingwu pulled the dazed Tao Wanyin to her feet.

They then stuffed a dark, pregnancy-preserving pill into her mouth.

"It will be over in a moment, Your Highness, don't be afraid."

From the moment she saw Ji Qingwu, Tao Wanyin felt less pain in her lower abdomen.

Tao Wanyin still had tears on her face; she looked like a lost child who couldn't find her way home.

"The prince said he wants a divorce from me, so you should stop calling me princess."

Ji Qingwu said, "Even if we want to get a divorce, we have to get along first before we separate."

Since their marriage, the two have never had a single day of true marital bliss, not even the typical scenario of a couple arguing in bed and making up before they get out of bed.

Tao Wanyin said dejectedly, "The prince said that everything is in the past and he will not look back."

At the foot of the wall, Ji Qingwu heard Prince Yong's confession and thought that the misunderstanding between the two was about to be resolved.

Who would have thought that Prince Yong would end up with something so big? He might even regret it and cry again after he sobers up.

Ji Qingwu asked, "Do you believe me, or do you believe Prince Yong?"

Tao Wanyin answered without hesitation, "Of course I believe you."

Thinking that there was a third person present, Ji Qingwu whispered a few words in her ear.

Tao Wanyin said helplessly, "Qingwu, this, this won't do."

Ji Qingwu knew that she was still lacking a reason to convince herself.

Under such circumstances, Tao Wanyin must have felt that she was a burden to Prince Yong.

So Ji Qingwu said decisively, "Even if it's not for yourself, but for the child you've finally conceived, you have to muster up your courage. What does saving face matter? It's not important."

She continued, "It's terrible for a child to be without a father. Trust me, I've been there."

Tao Wanyin had mixed feelings. After hesitating for a moment, she said a brief goodbye to Ji Qingwu and chased after him.

Seeing Princess Yong's hurried figure, Ji Qingwu understood that she wasn't doing it for the child.

It was for her own sake, but she hadn't realized it yet.

How bad was it?

Emperor Wusu's deep, cold voice rang out from behind her.

He overheard everything that followed, and Ji Qingwu's eyes flickered as he tried to bluff his way out of it.

She lamented, "Princess Yong suffered misfortune in her youth, and after marriage, she had a strained relationship with her husband. Now she is to be divorced by Prince Yong, leaving her all alone. It's truly tragic."

Emperor Wusu walked up to her and asked, "What happened between you and Qiuqiu?"

Ji Qingwu lowered her eyelashes and said softly, "It's just the usual gossip and trouble that comes with a widow's house."

There's no point in bringing up or reminiscing about the past, especially the bad things.

"But I—" She managed to return them all.

A loud cracking sound.

The sound was very close to her.

Ji Qingwu felt a chill run down his spine, and his back was covered in sweat from fright.

The roots of the tree where they had just been hiding were severed by someone using internal force, causing it to fall to the ground with a loud thud.

Ji Qingwu stared in shock at the instigator, noticing that Emperor Wusu's expression was extremely grim.

The noise of the tree being felled was so great that it woke up the people sleeping in the backyard. Lights in many rooms slowly came on, and the sound of guards running around the mansion could be heard.

Ji Qingwu grabbed Emperor Wusu's sleeve.

But he remained motionless, looking at her and saying, "Are you still going to run?"

A drunken emperor is too dangerous.

Ji Qingwu coaxed him, "Let's run together this time, okay?"

Emperor Wusu stared at her stubbornly.

Ji Qingwu's hand slid down, then grasped his palm, shaking it as she said, "If we don't leave now, it will be too late."

She continued, "If word were to spread that the Emperor stayed up all night, drank too much, and cut down trees at the Princess's residence to vent his anger, such news would damage His Majesty's reputation."

Emperor Wusu was unmoved and said indifferently, "What's the point of having such illusory things as prestige? I don't want them."

The emperor of Beili didn't even care about his reputation anymore, and Ji Qingwu was so anxious that beads of sweat appeared on the tip of his nose.

From the window of a room not far away, you can see the shadow of someone wearing a coat, about to leave.

She said seriously, "Then I also need a maiden name."

Emperor Wusu remained silent, his dark eyes fixed intently on her.

As a result, Ji Qingwu herself felt that her story was untenable, considering that much of her widely known "reputation" was actually her own doing.

Ji Qingwu thought for a moment and then used his trump card.

She said softly, "Let's go back to see our daughter. Who knows, she might be dreaming about His Majesty right now."

Ji Qingwu's prediction was correct; his words had an immediate effect.

When the guards gathered around the fallen tree, they looked at the clean cut and exchanged bewildered glances.

There was no thunder in the sky, so how could such a thick tree trunk suddenly break?

They didn't even consider that it might be man-made, because they had never seen anyone split a tree with one hand.

Ji Qingwu was on the roof, her calves trembling slightly.

In an instant, they flew to the rooftop. Ji Qingwu, who did not know martial arts, could not withstand the impact, and her head began to spin.

She wrapped her arms around Emperor Wusu's waist, buried her face in his chest, and dared not look down at all.

The wind on the roof was stronger and faster, and Ji Qingwu's hair was blown a little messy.

Suddenly, Emperor Wusu said, "I know."

Ji Qingwu was puzzled by the emperor's seemingly random statement, so she looked up at his chin.

He asked, "What?"

Emperor Wusu looked back at her and said, "Therefore, give me a chance to make up for these debts."

He was referring to the hardships she endured while fleeing with her child, and he knew about the sadness of Qiuqiu growing up without a father.

Ji Qingwu lowered her head, her heart swaying with the wind.

One moment he was jumping extremely fast, the next he was off-beat, making a thumping, clanging sound that was even more chaotic than the footsteps of the guards below.

She opened her mouth and said, "Your Majesty owes me nothing."

From beginning to end, he never owed her anything; everything was her choice.

Emperor Wusu said, "Awu, you are so smart, you must know what I am talking about."

Ji Qingwu's fingers gripped the jade belt around his waist tightly.

It's cold at higher altitudes; the cool breeze blows from all directions.

She had nowhere to hide; only his body was warm.

The palace, like this roof, could collapse if she wasn't careful. If she wanted to survive, she had no choice but to hold on to him and never let go.

Ji Qingwu slowly loosened her grip on his waist.

The tiles underfoot were covered with glazed tiles, making them very slippery.

She moved carefully, trying to stand up straight; without his body heat, she was indeed very cold.

The light in Emperor Wusu's eyes immediately went out, and his aura suddenly darkened, as if the wind itself was avoiding him and instead blowing towards Ji Qingwu.

Her flowing brocade dress billowed and floated between the two, like the Milky Way in the sky.

Ji Qingwu's gaze fell on the corner where the two had been, where they had been intimately close not long ago.

She asked, "Your Majesty, why must I enter the palace?"
