Chapter 252 Never Appear Before Me Again!

Chapter 252 Never Appear Before Me Again!

Standing at the doorway, Li Yuzong saw a beautiful figure walking towards him from the end of the road.

With a beaming smile, he strode quickly into the hall: "Your Majesty, Miss Ji has arrived." Li Yuzong said happily.

Emperor Wusu raised his face, his eyes fixed on the palace entrance.

Ji Qingwu walked ahead, followed by a maid carrying a food box. As soon as she entered Zhaoyang Palace, she saw the emperor's gloomy face.

Her steps faltered, and the joy and excitement she had felt on her way here vanished in an instant.

Judging from Emperor Wusu's expression, something big must have happened.

Ji Qingwu first exchanged a glance with Li Yuzong, hoping to get some hints from his trusted eunuch, Li.

She took a few steps forward and said, "Eunuch Li, this is ginseng soup that the Empress Dowager asked me to send."

Ji Qingwu instructed the maids in the Empress Dowager's palace to bring out the soup and food, and first hand it to Li Yuzong for inspection.

She leaned closer and whispered, "Eunuch Li, what's wrong with His Majesty? He doesn't seem very happy. Has something important happened today?"

Li Yuzong put away the silver needles, feeling even more astonished than Ji Qingwu.

He whispered, "Miss Ji, nothing serious happened. It just happened after His Majesty and Lord Duan of the Imperial City Guard returned from their sword duel at Hongsheng Pavilion."

Ji Qingwu pointed at Emperor Wusu, covered his lips with his hand, and asked in a low voice, "You lost?"

Li Yuzong shook his head.

He didn't lose the sword fight either, how is that possible...? Is a man's heart as unfathomable as the bottom of the sea?

Do you take me for a dead man?

Emperor Wusu said in a cold, deep voice, "Such a loud conspiracy, do you think I can't hear it?"

The emperor rarely spoke to her so harshly, and Ji Qingwu's smile immediately vanished.

However, the shock in my heart outweighed the fear.

She quickly picked up the soup bowl and walked lightly to Emperor Wusu's side. Perhaps he was sulking because she hadn't shown him any concern when she came in.

Ji Qingwu said softly, "Your Majesty, please have a bowl of ginseng soup to calm your temper."

As she spoke, she took out the soup bowl from the food box and placed the spoon in place with her fair fingers.

Emperor Wusu's voice remained cold and hard as he asked, "What brings you here?"

The young palace maid sent by the Empress Dowager was still in the hall, and Ji Qingwu glanced at her.

Then, she said softly, "The Empress Dowager cares about you and specially instructed the kitchen to prepare it. It took two hours to cook."

Emperor Wusu said bluntly, "It's neither noon nor evening, so why are you drinking soup?"

Ji Qingwu blinked and tilted her head to observe his reaction.

She asked, "If Your Majesty doesn't want to drink, then so be it. Or should I take it back now?"

Soup was delivered every few days. Ji Qingwu put herself in her shoes and thought that if she drank soup every day, she would also get tired of it.

The emperor's brow furrowed even more.

Ji Qingwu picked up the white porcelain soup bowl from the table, about to put it back into the food box.

Suddenly a strong gust of wind came.

The bowl in Ji Qingwu's hand fell to the ground and shattered, splashing soup everywhere and staining her feet and skirt.

Emperor Wusu's hand had just fallen back down, but his wide robe sleeves were still moving.

He was the one who did it just now.

Ji Qingwu stared at him in astonishment, her hand still stiffly holding the bowl in mid-air.

She lowered her eyes. The floor tiles of Zhaoyang Palace were different from the gold bricks of Qinzheng Palace; they were made of warm white jade.

A splash of splattered soup reminded her of what had happened.

The emperor smashed the bowl, and Li Yuzong and all the palace servants in the hall knelt down, prostrating themselves on the ground, not daring to utter a sound.

Ji Qingwu knew the saying that serving a ruler was like serving a tiger, but one shouldn't lose one's temper for no reason. What had she done to anger him?

She was the only one left standing in the hall.

Ji Qingwu, separated from him by a desk, asked, "Your Majesty, why is Your Majesty displeased? May I ask?"

Emperor Wusu flicked non-existent dust off his robe, leaned back in his chair, and remained expressionless.

"From what stand do you question me?"

Ji Qingwu felt a chill run down his spine.

She felt that his current appearance was very similar to when she first entered the palace and saw him in the west side hall of Cining Palace, with that cold and ruthless demeanor.

She racked her brains to recall what she had done.

Ji Qingwu said cautiously, "Consort Wei came to see me at Boxin Pavilion near Cining Palace today and expressed her concerns about my brother."

Emperor Wusu said coldly, "I am not interested in what you do every day."

Since revealing her feelings a few days ago, Ji Qingwu's heart has been filled with affection, and she is not afraid to back down even when the emperor is angry.

Instead, they tried their best to resolve the problems that arose between them.

Ji Qingwu said, "Then may I suggest we talk about some topics that Your Majesty may be interested in?"

Emperor Wusu turned his head away, looked at another corner of the room, and said, "Wasn't what I said clear enough?"

Ji Qingwu's face turned pale.

She asked, "What exactly does Your Majesty mean? Please explain clearly."

Emperor Wusu's Adam's apple bobbed: "Don't come before me again."

Ji Qingwu's eyelashes trembled: "Why?"

Emperor Wusu clenched his fist under the table, lowered his eyes, and said, "I'm tired of it, I'm weary."

Ji Qingwu stared at his indifferent profile, which refused to look at her, and frowned for a moment before reacting.

Then, her gaze fell on the painted soup bowl in the food box.

He wasn't tired of the soup, but rather of her...

Ji Qingwu reached out and gripped the handle on the food box tightly.

Her eyes were hot and swollen.

With a splash, Ji Qingwu spilled the remaining ginseng soup from the soup bowl onto the floor tiles.

She said decisively, "Since His Majesty doesn't like it, then forget it!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the soup bowl smashed on the ground.

The palace servants kneeling in the hall let out suppressed gasps. Ji Qingwu was probably the first person to dare to throw things in front of the emperor.

After she threw it away, she didn't care how the people inside reacted.

Ji Qingwu bit her lip and quickly walked out of Zhaoyang Palace.

She wandered aimlessly, her heart burning with rage.

They say you don't cherish what you have until it's gone, but it's only been a few days!

Besides, it's not like I've already received him... Didn't we agree to wait until his birthday...?

Ji Qingwu felt increasingly desolate as she thought about it. She had finally given her heart away, only to have it rejected so easily.

She looked up at the starry sky, forcing back the tears that were about to well up. Fortunately, the stars in the sky were there to keep her company and twinkle along with them.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, Ji Qingwu's heartache completely turned into sore feet.

Her calves ached, and she squatted at an unknown crossroads, wondering why the palace was built so grandly.

In front of Ji Qingwu was a patch of grass. She tugged at the flowers and plants within, and her emotions calmed down a bit.

She increasingly felt that she couldn't understand Emperor Wusu.

Earlier, she thought his treatment of Wei Ting was strange, but she never expected that half a day later, it would fall on her own head.

As he tore at the grass, Ji Qingwu muttered under his breath, "That capricious, heartless emperor..."

"What are you doing?"

A face suddenly appeared in front of me.

Ji Qingwu looked up and was startled, falling backward in fright.

How come she looks so much like the person she's cursing?

He reached out his little arm to pull her up, but she pulled him down instead.

Ji Qingwu instinctively protected him and held him in her arms.
