Chapter 477 Sharing a room is the rule; I like to sleep cuddling with someone.

Chenning Palace is the closest palace to Zhaoyang Palace.

As evening approached, Xiao Dongzi came twice more.

One time they sent dinner, and another time they sent bath oil, saying it was a new tribute from the south.

Ji Qingwu told him to put it down, but didn't say anything more. Xiao Dongzi could only walk away, looking back every few steps.

Fanghua saw this and used some of it on Ji Qingwu while she was bathing, and also said many kind words to her.

Ji Qingwu also praised the perfume, saying it was nice and had a fresh and pleasant scent, leaving the skin moisturized and smooth after use, but he didn't mention the person who gave it to him at all.

In the evening, Ji Qingwu, dressed in a light red undergarment, lay on her back with her long hair spread out on the side of the bed, while Lanzhi held a hand warmer to dry her hair.

As she listened to Fanghua recount what items had been brought into the inner treasury that day, she slowly closed her eyes.

Fanghua paused for a moment, then continued slowly.

Ji Qingwu felt her scalp burning. She closed her eyes, tilted her head, and said, "Lanzhi, move it further away, or you'll burn me bald."

Her half-dry long hair was lifted up and placed in a higher position. Warm air flowed over her, and Ji Qingwu sighed comfortably.

After Fanghua finished reading the gift list, she said in a low voice, "This servant will take her leave now."

Ji Qingwu's eyelids were heavy. He closed his eyes and nodded, saying, "Auntie has also worked hard all day. Get some rest."

As I shook my head, my hair naturally fell out, and in just a short while, it was completely dry, much faster than usual.

Ji Qingwu said, "Lanzhi, you should go and rest too."

But before Lanzhi could answer, Ji Qingwu spoke again: "Wait, Lanzhi."

Her white, jade-like eyelids fluttered, and her lips, moist and pink after her bath, parted and opened.

"Go to the gate now, close and lock the palace gate, and don't let anyone in. I'm going to sleep."

Lanzhi sat motionless by the bed.

Ji Qingwu tilted her head upwards, opened her eyes, and squinted to adjust to the light. She saw a hand with distinct knuckles twirling her black hair.

Without even looking up, Ji Qingwu knew who had arrived silently.

She snorted and retreated to the inside of the bed, trying to keep her distance from him.

Zhao Mingyan's face was shrouded in shadow as he looked at the person huddled at the innermost part of the bed and said in a cool tone, "The Empress has quite a temper; she even wants to lock me out."

Ji Qingwu simply rolled over, turning her backside towards him.

The gazes behind her made her back tense. She looked at the wall and asked, "Why is Your Majesty here?"

Zhao Mingyan coughed and said, "It is customary for the newlyweds to share a bed for the first three days of their marriage."

Ji Qingwu said coldly, "So that's why His Majesty came."

Emperor Wusu did not deny it.

He heard a rustling sound behind him; it was him undressing. Ji Qingwu moved further in, as if he wanted to stick his whole body to the wall.

The candles in the hall were blown out, plunging her into darkness.

The bedding beside him collapsed as Emperor Wusu lay down, with a distance of eight zhang between them.

Ji Qingwu couldn't help but recall what happened last night. The emperor was incredibly good at pretending to be angry. The more she thought about it, the more excited she became, her eyes widening like copper bells.

After a quarter of an hour, probably thinking she had fallen asleep, he put an arm around her waist, but Ji Qingwu immediately shook off his hand.

"I'm going to sleep, don't disturb me."

In the darkness, Zhao Mingyan's eyes gleamed, a smile playing on his lips, as he asked, "Does A-Wu like to sleep with his eyes open?"

Ji Qingwu said arrogantly, "Is that not allowed?"

Zhao Mingyan smiled and said, "Okay, A-Wu can do whatever she wants."

A heavy arm came up to her again. Ji Qingwu tried to shake it off, but he hooked her wrist instead. Then, her back pressed against his warm chest, which carried the same fragrance as hers.

Zhao Mingyan said, "Awu likes to sleep with her eyes open, while I like to sleep while holding someone."

The cold, hard wall was nowhere near as cozy as a human-shaped fireplace, so Ji Qingwu struggled a little.

She said sarcastically, "Did His Majesty sleep with the concubines in his arms like this before?"

The fingers on her waist stiffened. Zhao Mingyan said, "Hasn't Awu already read the daily records? Why would you ask such a question?"

Ji Qingwu said, "Things can be faked, but sincerity cannot. I still want to hear His Majesty say it himself."

Zhao Mingyan tightened his arms around her, his palm pressed against her soft belly, and said, "I've been sleeping alone while A-Wu is away."

Ji Qingwu had rested and recovered in the afternoon, and her mind was now very clear. She continued to interrogate him: "Then His Majesty also said that he likes to hold people while sleeping. When did he develop this habit?"

Zhao Mingyan whispered in her ear, "It's been just recently."

Upon hearing this, Ji Qingwu's eyes flickered. She jumped out of bed and stared intently at his blurry silhouette in the night.

"But His Majesty didn't hold me while I slept last night, which shows that habits can be changed."

Zhao Mingyan's smile froze.

He did lose control last night.

He didn't care about any special abilities; he already knew she was special.

However, when he learned that Ji Qingwu's intimacy with him was not entirely genuine and that his motives were impure, he could not suppress his anger.

But no matter what happened, he went to great lengths to bring her back to the palace, and their wedding night should not be interrupted.

The anger that had been building up in his chest was unleashed on her, and he attacked her relentlessly.

He admitted that he was excessively possessive, to the point of being pathological, when it came to her.

As Ji Qingwu lay beneath him, her eyes moist, she called his name repeatedly, as if begging for mercy, or as if she were sinking into a pitiful state.

He felt that it wasn't entirely unacceptable...

As long as she's still by his side, that's enough.

However, when he came to his senses and saw the marks all over her body, he felt a mix of heartache, annoyance, and a bit of guilt.

All that reading of the yellow book was for nothing; it was him who caused her the greatest pain, and he practically fled from Chenning Palace.

During the day, Zhao Mingyan felt like he was sitting on pins and needles in Zhaoyang Palace. He sent two trusted eunuchs to Chenning Palace several times, just to see if she was alright, what she was doing, and whether she wanted to see him.

He waited until evening, but finally couldn't wait any longer and came to Chenning Palace to find her.

When he first heard her instruct the maid to lock the door, he thought she was already disappointed in him and would be angry for a while.

But Ji Qingwu was easy to coax, and he would openly express his emotions.

At this moment, her lips were pouting like a little duck, and her eyes were flashing with grievance.

Zhao Mingyan said in a low, hoarse voice, "...It was my fault."

Ji Qingwu sensed the change in his attitude, sat cross-legged on the bed, put her hands on her hips and said, "I have special abilities, is that my fault?"

Zhao Mingyan shook his head.

Ji Qingwu bent down, getting close to his face, trying to see his expression, and said, "I didn't want you to get hurt, is that my fault?"

Zhao Mingyan shook his head sincerely.

Ji Qingwu became even more aggressive. She grabbed his ear and said angrily, "I told you the truth, is it really my fault?"

The familiar three-question sequence left Zhao Mingyan speechless once again.

He opened his arms and wrapped them around her waist, pulling her onto his body.
