Chapter 113 The Final Farewell

Lin's headache flared up again, but Lin Qingwan did not visit her.

Qiu Hong hinted at it several times, but Lin Qingwan only said, "There's nothing to say if I go. I can't do what my mother wants me to do."

"I'm being filial by not provoking her."

The autumn colors have faded.

She knew that Lin Qingwan had longed for the Madam's approval and for integrating into the Prime Minister's residence, but unfortunately, the Prime Minister's residence had disappointed her.

After the meal, Mu Xue sprinkled the medicinal ingredients that Cang Ying had brought and the herbs that had been prepared that day into the bathtub. Lin Qingwan's wounds had completely scabbed over, and she enjoyed a comfortable bath.

"Miss looks much better." Mu Xue helped her dry her hair, staring at the slender and delicate face in the bronze mirror. "On New Year's Eve, Physician Zhu stayed in the room for so long. It seems he really used all his skills."

"The Crown Prince was inside at the time. I was so worried when they didn't come out for a long time."

Lin Qingwan's eyelashes fluttered slightly. "The Crown Prince is here too?"

Mu Xue nodded, "I don't know if it was because I was too nervous, but when Physician Zhu came out, the Crown Prince looked a little pale."

"To be honest, even outside, Eunuch Cang looked very nervous."

Mu Xue joked, "Anyone who didn't know better would think that the Crown Prince had some hidden medical skills."

Lin Qingwan's eyes were like the mist of an autumn night, deep and filled with doubt, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Mu Xue noticed that she looked worried and assumed that she was troubled by the drug-making thread. She glanced at Qiu Hong, who was not in the garden, and comforted her, "Miss, don't worry too much. Maybe the Crown Prince has a way."

“If I can’t get this line back on track, it’s useless to the Crown Prince. He can have someone else do it.”

The Crown Prince is not Prince Jing. If Lin Qingwan wants to rely on him to find a way out, she has to show her abilities.

But now she can't even take the first step; she can't get in touch with the powerful families. They can't find the list of families that used to deal in poisons.

Lin Qingwan rubbed her temples and let out a long sigh.

At this moment, Qiu Hong's voice rang out from outside, "Young Master, Miss is taking a bath and needs to rest! If you have anything important to say, I can pass it on to you."

In the past, Jiang Zhenlin would have just come over and kicked the door open, but today he stopped and saw that the light inside was still on. "I have a couple of questions for her, so get out of the way."

Qiu Hong felt a pang of anxiety; every time the young master came over, he would cause a huge scene.

"Young master, Miss is really tired. Would you like to come again tomorrow?"

Jiang Zhenlin shoved Qiu Hong aside and went up the steps. Just as he was about to push open the door, he cleared his mind and stopped in time, awkwardly asking, "Lin Qingwan, are you asleep?"

"I'm asleep," she answered very quickly.

Jiang Zhenlin...

He retreated to the corridor and saw Mu Xue drying her hair through the window. He thought to himself that it was a good thing he hadn't pushed the door open, otherwise the cold air would have gotten in.

“I’ve already asked at the clinic. If you don’t trust the doctors at the prefectural hospital, I’ll have Manager Tao stay here, and you won’t have to leave.”

"Whatever." Lin Qingwan replied without hesitation.

Jiang Zhenlin was speechless when he heard the agreement so quickly.

"Does your injury still hurt?"

Lin Qingwan glanced at the elongated figure outside the door, her eyes not cold, but also devoid of warmth.

"Young Master Jiang, with your overflowing compassion, could go to the outskirts of the city to care for beggars."

Jiang Zhenlin's eyelids twitched; this tone... he actually found it pleasing to the ear.

"I'm not so bored as to care what other people do."

Lin Qingwan didn't mince words, "Didn't Young Master Jiang see clearly enough outside the flower garden that day? Or is it that now that he knows your older sister isn't a good person, he feels I was wronged in the past and comes over to say something to show his concern?"

Do you think I need this one word of concern from you?

Jiang Zhenlin gritted his teeth, feeling the embarrassment of being slapped across the face. He hadn't cared about many people, and he had taken the initiative to humble himself before her, yet she still took advantage of his kindness?

Despite his thoughts, he swallowed a surge of anger. "I have a quick temper and a bad personality. I didn't do well in the past, but I won't do it again."

"But don't keep picking on me like that. When I get angry, I don't have any nice things to say."

Lin Qingwan scoffed, "Get lost."

Jiang Zhenlin's breath hitched, and he stared intently at the door for a long while before finally turning and leaving.

Qiu Hong rubbed her eyes. Had she seen wrong? The young master slunk away...

Mu Xue couldn't sleep for most of the night, becoming wary at the slightest noise in the courtyard, as she was certain the young master would come back and yell at her!

But Lin Qingwan slept soundly after scolding someone.

The next day, Qiu Hong and Mu Xue both had dark circles under their eyes and became nervous at the slightest noise in the courtyard.

Lin Qingwan knew what they were worried about. "He's the kind of person who kicks down the door yesterday when he's angry. He won't be coming back. Don't be nervous."

Qiu Hong and Mu Xue exchanged glances, deciding it was best to be cautious.

Lin Qingwan added, "He now feels that he wronged me in the past, and that I scolded him a few times as compensation."

Mu Xue blurted out, "Miss has nearly lost her life several times, how will you compensate her?"

She realized it was inappropriate after she said it, but she was telling the truth.

*

Mid-morning, Qiu Hong brought in a letter. "Miss, this is from a Mr. Ruan."

Lin Qingwan paused for a moment, "Isn't Jiang Zhenlin here? How did Mr. Ruan's letter manage to get in?"

Qiu Hong nodded, "Young Master has gone out. The gatekeeper usually doesn't accept letters, but Miss Xia Yan just came back and brought the letter in."

Lin Qingwan shuddered; getting involved with Jiang Yanwan was never a good thing.

"Bring it here."

Qiu Hong watched as she opened the envelope and then discreetly withdrew.

In fact, Lin Qingwan noticed that Ruan Tinghuai was somewhat emotional when she saw him on the street that day, and she had been worried about him for the past two days. However, she didn't want to give Mr. Ruan any hope, and she was also afraid that Jiang Zhenlin might actually do something.

The best approach is to let this matter cool down.

Now, Mr. Ruan seems to have come to his senses. He says he wants to leave the capital and hopes to see me one last time to say goodbye properly.
