Jiang Zhenlin learned from the torn letter that Lin Qingwan had come to see Ruan Tinghuai, and he immediately exploded.
When he saw Xia Yan downstairs, his anger suddenly cleared his head for a moment.
Xia Yan naturally saw him too, and his evasive gaze aroused his suspicion. Xia Yan turned to push the door open, but Jiang Zhenlin, for some unknown reason, rushed forward and covered Xia Yan's mouth. Then he heard Jiang Yanwan and Ruan Tinghuai's conversation inside.
He couldn't believe that the person inside was his older sister, the older sister he had loved for fifteen years!
Two days ago, he realized that he had misunderstood Lin Qingwan before, and felt that his sister was involved in everything. But he knew that his sister was afraid of losing them.
But now Lin Qingwan is lying unconscious by the table, like a fish to be slaughtered in Ruan Tinghuai's hands, and her older sister is an accomplice who handed her the knife!
"Ah Lin, what's wrong with you..." Jiang Yanwan trembled all over when he glared at her, unable to manage a smile.
Ruan Tinghuai immediately tried to carry Lin Qingwan away.
Enraged, Jiang Zhenlin kicked over the chair in front of him, yelling, "Don't touch her!"
He vented all his anger on Ruan Tinghuai, his eyes bloodshot as he overturned the table again.
Ruan Tinghuai held Lin Qingwan in his arms, glaring at him fiercely, "Stop pretending! Everyone in your Prime Minister's residence wishes she would disappear!"
Jiang Zhenlin walked over and raised his fist to strike.
Jiang Yanwan realized what was happening, "Ah Lin! Qingwan wants to leave, don't let her hate you anymore!"
"Nonsense!" Jiang Zhenlin suddenly turned around, staring at her with a cold and cruel gaze she had never seen before. "You colluded with this merchant to harm her!"
"It's because you've never been able to tolerate Lin Qingwan!"
Jiang Yanwan was stunned, her eyes filled with tears. "Ah Lin, how could you say such a thing to me! I'm doing this for the good of the Prime Minister's residence, for the good of my mother, and for the good of Qingwan."
"You did it for yourself!" Jiang Zhenlin roared in anguish. How could his beloved and trusted older sister, whom he had trusted most since childhood, have done this!
"You want to be the only eldest daughter of the Jiang family. You're afraid she'll take your place, afraid you'll lose everything. As long as Lin Qingwan isn't around, everything can go back to the way it was!"
Jiang Zhenlin suddenly became terrifyingly lucid. Recalling what happened with Granny Lai, he realized that perhaps his older sister had long wanted to kill Lin Qingwan.
The thought startled even him; he was both surprised and furious. "Sister, how could you be so cruel!"
vicious?
Jiang Yanwan's breath hitched, and she forced herself to calm down.
We can't force it!
"Ah Lin, I didn't..."
"Stop making excuses!" Jiang Zhenlin's eyes were bloodshot. "I heard everything!"
Jiang Yanwan's heart trembled violently, and looking at his hateful gaze, she couldn't utter a single word.
During their argument, Ruan Tinghuai grabbed Lin Qingwan and ran out of the house.
Jiang Zhenlin wanted to chase after him, but Jiang Yanwan stopped him.
He gritted his teeth, "I don't want to lay a hand on you, but Lin Qingwan can't go with him!"
"Ah Lin! Please grant my request just this once," Jiang Yanwan pleaded, her eyes red. "Mr. Ruan likes her and won't mistreat her."
"She won't have a good outcome staying in the Prime Minister's residence."
Jiang Zhenlin brushed her aside, saying, "You don't need to make decisions for the Jiang family and for her."
Jiang Yanwan fell heavily to the ground, watching Jiang Zhenlin chase after her, tears streaming down her face, her heart filled with hatred that she couldn't express.
Ruan Tinghuai could only hear the whistling wind. The person in his arms was as light as a feather, yet it made his heart race, and he dared not stop for a moment.
He knew he couldn't escape, but he didn't want to let go.
Lin Qingwan slowly opened her eyes in his arms, looking at Ruan Tinghuai's stubborn face, slowly washing away the beautiful memories he had left her with.
“Sir, you can’t escape.” She said calmly.
"Yes! I can definitely get you away from here!"
Lin Qingwan lowered her eyelashes. "I could tell there was a sleeping potion in the tea as soon as I smelled it."
Ruan Tinghuai paused, speechless.
She added, "Although you didn't explicitly say last time that you were injured by Jiang Yanwan, you implicitly agreed. But the wound was facing outwards, and the dagger was used to cut from your direction."
Ruan Tinghuai deflated again, her eyes glazed over, and she felt like she was about to run out of energy.
"Today's farewell is also something I deliberately arranged for Jiang Zhenlin to find out that I came to see you. I knew he would definitely come looking for me."
"At the time, I thought, if I'm being petty, I'll let Jiang Zhenlin scold me, and that will force you to leave Beijing."
"If you really join forces with Jiang Yanwan..."
Ruan Tinghuai choked up, "I just want to take you away."
Lin Qingwan said helplessly, "Can't you tell, sir? I really don't want to go with you."
These words became the final straw that broke Ruan Tinghuai's back; he could no longer take a step, and his eyes were red and wet.
Lin Qingwan steadied herself against the wall, her legs still a little weak. "Sir, let's go. If Jiang Zhenlin catches up, you won't be able to escape the charge of harming the Prime Minister's daughter."
Ruan Tinghuai trembled all over, unable to think, and looking at her calm and indifferent expression, he felt an unbearable heartache.
He still lost her in the end, didn't he?
He's been in her heart for so many years, why has it turned out like this?
"Qingwan, I..."
His heart was trembling, and he couldn't speak.
Lin Qingwan turned her back, closed her eyes, and said, "Let's go."
However, instead of footsteps moving away, there was the sound of someone falling to the ground.
Before she could turn around, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck and immediately lost consciousness.
*
When Lin Qingwan woke up again, she found herself in a small, dark room. The strong scent of crabapple blossoms instantly filled her with fear.
"woke up?"
Following the sound, Zhao Yan's handsome yet sickly face slowly emerged from the shadows.
Lin Qingwan's hair stood on end, and her teeth chattered. "Don't come any closer."
Zhao Yan seemed to be wounded by her fear and alienation. He stopped and said with great heartache, "Don't be afraid of me."
"Jianqing, have you forgotten me?"
"I'm not Jianqing." Lin Qingwan quickly glanced around; apart from the door behind Zhao Yan, there wasn't even a window.
Her mood darkened further.
Zhao Yan lowered her eyes sadly, "You must be utterly disappointed in me to refuse to admit it."
Lin Qingwan: ......
"But it's okay, I'll make you remember."
With each step he took closer, Lin Qingwan's heart tightened, until Zhao Yan pulled her into his arms, the scent of dragon scales robbing her of all breath.
She curled up, too afraid to move.
Zhao Yan's hand gently caressed her slender back, his touch a mixture of barely suppressed excitement and cautious caresses.
He gave a sickly smile and rubbed his cheek against Lin Qingwan's forehead. "I saw you drink that cup of tea, how come you didn't faint?"
Lin Qingwan's throat trembled, and she did not intend to answer the question.
Zhao Yan's voice was soft and doting, "Is it because of your blood?"
"Can you tell me why, even after your return, your blood still contains deadly poison?"
Lin Qingwan felt as if a wild beast had seized her by the neck, her life hanging by a thread between its sharp teeth. "I..."
However, Zhao Yan didn't intend for her to say anything, and continued talking to herself, "Was it your mother who forced you, or was it Zhao Cong, that wicked man, who plotted against you?"
"I have already lost once, but this time I will not let anything happen to you."
