Chapter 121 Only I Have No Choice

Back in the tent, Mu Xue burst into tears, crying, "How could the Prime Minister and his wife treat you like this!"

"Can't we not go back?"

Lin Qingwan closed her eyes, a heavy despair pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe along with Tong Di's death.

The memory of Zhao Yan imprisoning her for a day and a night was still vivid in her mind; it was even more terrifying than being bled to death in the flower garden! Lin Qingwan felt as if her heart was being torn apart, and her reason was on the verge of collapse.

Seeing that her face was pale, Mu Xue said again, "This servant will go and beg the Crown Prince!"

Crown Prince?

Lin Qingwan composed herself.

Tong Di's last words resurfaced in her mind. All the kindness Tong Di had shown her in the past was at the behest of the Crown Prince.

"What if the Crown Prince agrees?"

"After all, you were saved by Guard Tong at the cost of his life. If Guard Tong is watching from heaven, he will never let you marry Prince Jing."

Mentioning Tong Di caused Lin Qingwan a pang of pain in her heart.

Tong Di was buried on a small hillside behind the camp, and Zhao Cong brought a pot of wine to pay his respects.

When Lin Qingwan came over, Cang Ying made a silencing gesture to her, and she waited patiently.

Zhao Cong stared silently at the tombstone, his back ramrod straight, but his broad shoulders were filled with loneliness.

He uncorked the wine, spilling the clear liquid onto the grave. He leaned forward, his long index finger touching the cold stone tablet. He said nothing, and the expression in his eyes was unreadable.

But the sadness that isn't shown is bound to be more agonizing than anyone can imagine.

Zhao Cong didn't linger for long. When he walked over, his gaze fell on Lin Qingwan. As if he knew the purpose of her visit, he said indifferently, "I can postpone the matter of the engagement."

"This matter is not over yet."
