"It's just an old wound, it's healed a long time ago, just waiting for the scar to form."
Jiang Zhenlin suppressed his anger, "There's no need to trouble Your Highness to bestow medicine upon me."
After saying that, he hurriedly climbed into the carriage.
Fueled by alcohol, Jiang Zhenlin recalled the day Lin Qingwan wore a bright yellow dress. Under the light, her fair complexion made the scar on the back of her hand stand out.
Yes, the lobby is so big, yet people insist on standing where the light is coming in.
"She did it on purpose!"
In his excitement, Jiang Zhenlin was about to punch the car seat next to him when Gao Peng moved closer and landed a solid punch on his waist. He immediately cried out, "I'm not married yet! You can't hit my waist anywhere!"
Jiang Zhenlin ignored him, then heard Gao Peng, half-drunk, shout, "My beauty, don't go..."
"Ah Lin, how can she wear blue so well? Even the beauties in paintings can't compare to her back view."
Jiang Zhenlin paused, his eyes darkening further.
The beauty he was referring to was Lin Qingwan, whom he had seen at the street stall that day.
Jiang Zhenlin gritted his teeth, "Stop thinking about her!"
Gao Peng was quite drunk, but he chuckled and leaned closer, saying, "You have no idea how miserable the beauty is."
Jiang Zhenlin turned his head, grinding his teeth, "What did you say?"
"I asked the vendor, and the beauty wanted him to fix a bamboo dragonfly that had been trampled on. She brought it all the way back as a gift for her brother whom she had never met, but it got trampled on."
Jiang Zhenlin's eyes flickered, a mixture of confusion and unease in them. "What bamboo dragonfly... when did she give it to me?"
His hands, hanging by his sides, suddenly clenched his robes. He recalled the kick he'd given her on his first day invading Ningsi Courtyard; it felt like something had fallen from her body…
Then what?
Then he pressed forward, completely oblivious to whether there was anything under his feet.
Gao Peng let out a burp, "What a bastard brother! I curse him to never find a wife! He even trampled on something my sister put so much effort into..."
Before he could finish speaking, the carriage lurched, and Jiang Zhenlin pushed him again, causing Gao Peng to crash solidly into the carriage once more. He groaned in pain for a while before falling asleep.
Jiang Zhenlin's mind went blank for a long time before he finally managed a forced smile. "What kind of junk do you have the nerve to give me?"
"Who cares?"
"Young Master, it's time to return to the manor."
Jiang Zhenlin jumped off the carriage, took a few steps, then turned back to look at the servant Caibao, "What does a bamboo dragonfly look like?"
Caibao thought he was still drunk, "Huh?"
"What?!" Jiang Zhenlin said irritably, "I've never seen one before. Go find one and show it to me."
Caibao scratched the back of his head. Was the young master's drunken outburst going too far?
As Jiang Zhenlin walked back, he added, "Have the maid take the Qionglu Ointment to Ningsi Garden and tell her that her hand isn't healed yet, so she shouldn't wander around aimlessly!"
If it weren't for Gao Peng's words, Jiang Zhenlin would have undoubtedly caused trouble for Lin Qingwan again.
Xia Yan had been waiting for him in the front yard. When she heard him instructing someone to send medicine to Lin Qingwan, she immediately came over and said, "Young Master is back. The eldest young lady asked me to make some hangover soup and told you to drink it so you won't have a headache tomorrow."
Jiang Zhenlin smiled upon hearing this, "My older sister still cares about me the most."
Xia Yan added, "Among the medicine that Prince Jing bestowed upon Miss Qingwan last time was a bottle of refreshing and invigorating nectar. The eldest young lady originally intended to give it to the young master, but later learned that it was still in Miss Qingwan's possession. Fearing that she might have some concerns, she didn't mention it."
Jiang Zhenlin asked in confusion, "Weren't all those things given to Father?"
He thought Lin Qingwan was sensible.
Xia Yan feigned panic at having spoken out of turn and shook his head repeatedly.
Jiang Zhenlin grew anxious. "What exactly happened? Tell me quickly!"
After an incense stick had burned, Jiang Zhenlin arrived at Ningsi Garden with a dark face. Seeing that the lights in the room were already off, he surprisingly managed to control his temper and did not go any further.
Caibao wiped away a bead of sweat. "Young Master, shall we still send you the Qionglu Ointment?"
Jiang Zhenlin wasn't afraid of disturbing her, but he remembered Gao Peng's words and his legs felt like lead.
He clenched and unclenched his fist repeatedly. "I won't see you out!"
Then he left with a dark expression.
Huaguang Institute.
Jiang Yanwan was somewhat surprised that Jiang Zhenlin didn't react. After a moment of contemplation, she questioned Xia Yan, "Didn't you explain yourself clearly?"
Xia Yan said urgently, "I've already told you. I said that Miss Qingwan deliberately left the medicine because she was dissatisfied with us, and that she was also trying to gain sympathy in front of Prince Jing that day. Her intentions are not pure."
Jiang Yanwan clicked her tongue lightly, "Then it shouldn't have gotten out of hand."
Xia Yan was afraid of being blamed, "Perhaps the young master is feeling unwell from drinking too much."
"It's precisely because you're uncomfortable that you're more likely to get angry."
Xia Yan was speechless.
Jiang Yanwan didn't press the matter further. "Have you asked Caibao if the Prince mentioned marriage at the banquet today?"
Upon hearing this, Xia Yan became even more nervous, "No, no."
"Did the prince not mention it, or did you not ask about the treasure?" Jiang Yanwan said with dissatisfaction.
“It’s the prince who didn’t say it.” Xia Yan lowered her head. “Caibao said… said… the prince told everyone that Miss Qingwan is beautiful.”
Jiang Yanwan frowned, a chilling aura creeping into her eyes.
*
The next morning, Jiang Yanwan and Jiang Zhenlin had breakfast with Madam Lin at Lan Garden.
Prince Jing returned to the capital, and he might not need to go to his fiefdom again after the New Year. Lady Lin was also thinking about the marriage agreement between the Jiang family and Zhao Yan.
"Ah Lin, did Prince Jing bring any women with him when he returned from Linzhou?" Madam Lin always spoke directly at home.
Jiang Yanwan put down her chopsticks and looked over.
Jiang Zhenlin seemed listless and nodded.
Lin took a breath. Zhao Yan was never short of women around him. However, as a prince, he was known for his indiscriminate indulgence in both meat and vegetables. He had even once favored a courtesan, causing quite a stir.
