Zhao Cong put down his work and went outside to see Consort Su. His usually calm face showed an even calmer expression.
"I heard that Your Highness cried for a long time, so I cooked ginseng soup for you and Your Highness." Su Yun bowed gracefully, her eyes filled with shyness and timidity.
Zhao Cong said calmly, "Your information is outdated; Feng'er is already asleep."
Su Yun's smile froze, and a look of panic flashed in her eyes. "I didn't ask anyone to find out, but the Crown Prince's Palace knows that His Highness is crying so hard."
"I was truly worried, that's why..."
Zhao Cong interrupted her, "I told you not to send me anything. As a concubine, the most important thing you should remember is to avoid appearing in front of me as much as possible."
"I haven't settled the score with you yet for having someone send things to Chaoning Street last time."
"Do you feel like you're living too leisurely a life?"
Su Yun felt a chill run down her spine, and her heart ached terribly. "I dare not. It's my fault."
"Your Highness, please calm down."
Zhao Cong frowned slightly. "Get out of here."
Zhao Cong walked hurriedly and soon disappeared into the night.
Su Yun clenched her clasped hands tightly. "Cui'er, go and find out what the Crown Prince is doing leaving the palace so late at night?"
"The matter between Consort Ning and the Jiang family has been settled. What else could possibly make the Crown Prince so anxious?"
Cui'er's eyes darted around. "Consort, that Lin Qingwan was also burned to death. Perhaps the Crown Prince went to pay his respects to her."
Su Yun raised an eyebrow. "With the Jiang family all in prison, who can help Lin Qingwan with her funeral arrangements?"
Cui'er advised, "I think you don't need to be nervous. Anyway, she's already dead. Even if the young prince liked her, and the crown prince has fallen for her, what can you do?"
"You are the only mistress of this Eastern Palace."
Su Yun shook her head. "You're wrong. His Majesty ordered the Crown Prince to make the eldest daughter of the Vice Minister of War his principal wife. I've heard that Miss Tang has an extremely strong personality and knows some martial arts."
"She's much more troublesome than Lin Qingwan."
Lin Qingwan was at least not well-liked by her family, but Miss Tang was different.
*
Zhao Cong rushed to the small courtyard in the east of the city without stopping, taking off his cloak as he entered the house.
The room reeked of medicine. Through the screen, he saw Lin Qingwan lying quietly on the bed. In an instant, the howling wind in his ears, the anxiety in his heart, and even his chaotic thoughts all quieted down.
It feels like we've gone back to New Year's Eve.
Feng'er chased after him, playing and occasionally threatening, "Father is so fierce, be careful she won't let you be her princess."
"Qingwan, your father is older than you, but look at him, he's in good health. He's run for so long and he's not even out of breath."
Later, when they were having too much fun, the boy jumped into her arms and shouted, "Qingwan, be my mother!"
"Qingwan, don't be angry. Today is New Year's Day, and I want to call you Mother."
Zhao Cong couldn't stand it anymore. "Go back to sleep, or you won't get your red envelope tomorrow."
Feng'er wasn't afraid at all, but seeing that Lin Qingwan didn't respond for a long time, the expectation in her eyes turned into loneliness, and she dragged her shoes back into the house.
When Zhu An entered, he saw that the Crown Prince had already taken off his shirt and was lying on the couch. He even patted the veins in his arm, a gesture so practiced that Zhu An could hardly believe it.
"Would you like to eat something first?" Zhu An asked.
Zhao Cong: "He's been unconscious for so long, and you want me to eat now?"
Zhu An stepped forward and said softly, "You are even more anxious than I am."
Zhao Cong was taken aback. "Didn't you tell Shen Xu to frantically summon me here?"
Zhu An calmly replied, "Your Majesty, I only asked Guard Shen to inform you, but I did not say that you had to come over tonight."
"What, did I arrive too early?" Zhao Cong raised an eyebrow. "Unconscious and suffering from poisoning, how could you wait?"
Zhu Anfei inserted the needle into the acupoint and said directly, "Your Highness, please calm down. When you get angry, your blood becomes poisonous. Even if you administer the blood transfusion, it may not be able to save you."
"You may scold me after Miss Qingwan wakes up."
Zhao Cong choked for a moment, then tapped Zhu An's brow twice with his slender fingers.
Zhu An comforted her, "Calm down, calm down."
Zhao Cong closed his eyes. Hey, this bastard is actually getting on his nerves.
Not long after, Lin Qingwan regained consciousness.
In fact, her thoughts had been clear intermittently over the past two days. She knew she was in the courtyard and could sometimes hear Mu Xue and Yuan Yuan talking to her.
She was very anxious, but she just couldn't open her eyes and wake up.
My body felt like a barren wasteland without water; the vegetation withered and died, and my blood dried up.
Suddenly, a continuous stream of water gushed in, irrigating the cracked earth along her limbs and bones. She breathed in fresh air again and felt her body slowly regain... at least enough to lift her eyelids.
Vision quickly cleared, and the dim light shone on the thin tube inserted into my arm, which contained dark red blood.
The other side of the syringe was in Zhao Cong's armpit.
Lin Qingwan's eyes flickered, and it took her a while to find her voice, "Crown Prince?"
The hoarse, dry voice made Zhao Cong's heart tighten. "Mmm."
"This is···"
"I'll give you a blood transfusion," he said calmly. "Doctor Zhu's method is good. As long as I live, you won't have to suffer from the poison."
Lin Qingwan blinked, making sure she wasn't dreaming.
Cangying had told her about blood transfusions, but she couldn't imagine it.
As she watched the crimson blood being drawn from his body and into her own, her heart raced, her breathing became erratic, and she was at a loss for words.
After staring at the ceiling for a while, she said, "Thank you, Your Highness."
"Actually... the entire Jiang family was executed, and I..."
She choked up.
Zhao Cong interrupted her, "I thought you didn't want to walk the same path to the underworld as them, so I brought you out."
Lin Qingwan asked in confusion, "Is there a second road to the underworld?"
