"Mother!"
Jiang Zhenlin followed behind his father. The butler had already told them about Lin's situation. One of them had a deep and cold expression, while the other was extremely anxious.
Jiang Yanwan's face was blue from the cold, and she couldn't move her body. Her lips trembled several times before she could barely make a sound, "Father, Ah-Lin, you, you're back."
Jiang Zhenlin reacted quickly and stepped forward, letting the swaying Jiang Yanwan lean on his shoulder.
"Sister!"
Seeing that she was wrapped in a fox fur coat and holding a hot water bottle, and was freezing cold, Jiang Zhenlin felt heartbroken. He didn't know how long she had been standing there, and he immediately asked, "Did she make you stand outside in the cold?"
Jiang Yanwan sniffed, as if she was too cold to speak, and deliberately did not answer.
Jiang Su frowned and was about to step into the house.
Jiang Yanwan said anxiously, "Father! Mother's rash is contagious."
Jiang Su's deep gaze tightened, and without stopping, he entered the house, bringing with him a chilling aura.
Inside, mugwort was used for fumigation. Rong Ma covered her face with a towel and used a cloth soaked in mugwort to wipe various places, including Lin Shi's clothes, tea set, etc., which were wrapped in mugwort leaves and stuffed into a bundle to be taken out and burned.
Lin Qingwan sat on the edge of the bed, applying ointment to Lin's arm repeatedly with her fingers. The rash was no longer as sharp as before, but it must have hurt a lot when touched, because Lin was still frowning in her coma.
Lin Qingwan then lightened the pressure of her fingertips and gently blew on the area where the medicine had been applied.
Jiang Su then noticed that she wasn't wearing a face mask!
In an instant, the Prime Minister's tense shoulders relaxed, his steps softened, his heart felt as if it were being gripped tightly, and his gaze remained fixed on Lin Qingwan.
"Prime Minister!" Rong Ma greeted him from afar, "Why have you come in?"
Lin Qingwan slowed her movements and turned to look at her father.
His thin face showed fatigue, his eyes were as black as grapes, and his eyelashes fluttered slightly. "My mother's rash has subsided quite a bit, she should be fine."
"Father can just wait outside. If he gets infected too, Mother will be sad when she wakes up."
The last sentence moved Jiang Su, and his voice was slightly hoarse, "Take care of yourself too."
Lin Qingwan continued applying the ointment with her head down, and gave a faint "hmm".
Jiang Su went to the private room and summoned the imperial physician for questioning. Later, for some reason, he became angry, and the physician was dragged out and beaten several times. He was not allowed to rest and had to continue guarding the Orchid Garden.
Jiang Zhenlin tried to go in, but Jiang Yanwan stopped him.
"Sister, I'm healthy, I'm not afraid."
Jiang Zhenlin's resolute attitude made Jiang Yanwan feel even more distressed. If Ah Lin also went in, it would only make her seem more like a coward who fears death.
She gripped Jiang Zhenlin's arm tightly, her tone almost pleading, "Your mother loves you the most. If you get the rash, she'll worry when she wakes up, and how will she recover?"
Jiang Zhenlin said anxiously, "No, sister, let me go."
"If Lin Qingwan isn't afraid, then I'm not afraid either."
Jiang Yanwan's face was extremely pale, her stiff fingers almost tearing Jiang Zhenlin's sleeve. "We can't take the risk."
"Sister, let go."
"No, you can't get hurt."
"Oh dear, I already told you I'm fine." Jiang Zhenlin was a little annoyed, but he knew his sister was doing it for his own good. "I'll just take a look from the door and won't go inside."
Jiang Yanwan refused to let go.
Inside the house.
Lin Qingwan applied the ointment to Lin Shi four times in two hours. By the end, her neck was so sore that she couldn't lift it. Finally, Lin Shi slowly opened her eyes.
In the few seconds it took for Lin's thoughts to slowly return, her face was no longer serious as usual, and her gaze was as gentle as the spring sunshine shining on Lin Qingwan's face.
Lin watched as she carefully examined her arm, then gently lowered her sleeve. Her long eyelashes drooped, and without that clear and stubborn gaze, Qingwan became very obedient.
Lin spoke weakly, "What if I infect you..."
Lin Qingwan's voice was crisp: "It's not contagious."
Lin's heart softened like a flower that had just opened but was then battered by rain, closing up again. "Then you should wear a face mask, just in case."
“My daughter’s rash leaves scars, but I’m old, so it’s okay.”
Lin Qingwan tidied up the medicine bottles, the intermittent clinking sounds breaking the rare warmth in the room. "I've applied scar-reducing medicine to the areas where the redness has subsided. As long as you don't scratch them, they won't leave scars."
Looking at the bruises under her eyes, Madam Lin choked back a sob. She thought of how the girl had vomited blood, run away, and even encountered the Crown Prince... she wondered...
Lin opened her mouth as if to say something, but then she heard Jiang Zhenlin's voice outside.
Almost instinctively, with burning desire, she called out, "Ah Lin is back!"
The soft, delicate voice, like a flame, touched Jiang Zhenlin's troubled heart. His furrowed brows relaxed, and he forcefully pushed away Jiang Yanwan's hand and ran inside.
"Mother!"
Lin hurriedly tried to stop her, "She's right outside! Don't come in!"
Jiang Zhenlin's eyes reddened. "I'm not afraid. Let me see you."
Lin said with a hint of anger, "If you don't listen, get out! I won't see you!"
Jiang Zhenlin clenched his fist and stood obediently in the outer room. Even through the small door, beaded curtain, and gauze curtain, the mother and son seemed to be able to see the worry on each other's faces.
Lin Qingwan inwardly scoffed. Her mother's behavior towards Jiang Zhenlin was the real sign of her care and concern; her earlier actions towards her were merely polite.
Madam Lin immediately noticed the crack in her son's cloud-shaped collar. "Why did you get into a fight with the Crown Prince's men?"
Jiang Zhenlin also felt wronged. He glanced at Lin Qingwan's reflection on the screen and thought that she was inside accompanying his mother. His anger subsided a lot. "Some vendors saw Lin Qingwan being taken to the inn by a man. I was so anxious that I didn't recognize the guards beside the Crown Prince."
Madam Lin glanced at Lin Qingwan and said, "We could have asked more questions about this. Isn't it because you have a bad temper that you went in and started fighting with people?"
