Prince Jing was so accommodating that it could even be described as soliciting a request, but the old lady felt as if a venomous snake had crawled into her back, and she trembled all over, subconsciously looking at Jiang Su.
When she was criticizing the Lin family and scolding Lin Qingwan, she didn't think about Jiang Su. Now she remembers that the Jiang family still needs her son.
Jiang Su's expression was gloomy and his emotions were unreadable. "It is not enough to convict Qingwan based on the servant's one-sided statement. Even if she is suspected, there is no need to rush to force a confession."
These words disrespected the old lady, and she was angry, but she couldn't vent her anger because Prince Jing was there.
Jiang Mingting was stupid and convinced from the beginning that it was Lin Qingwan's doing. He thought that his uncle had called Prince Jing to protect Lin Qingwan and was deliberately trying to make things difficult for Yun'er.
But he wasn't stupid, and dared not be presumptuous in front of Prince Jing. He only said softly, "The servant couldn't stand it and risked her life to testify. Your Highness and Uncle, don't be fooled by her."
"She's very cunning!"
These words were spoken through gritted teeth, revealing obvious hatred.
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt an immense gaze pressing down on her head. Madam He hurriedly covered her son's mouth. Seeing the dangerous glint in Prince Jing's narrowed eyes, she immediately apologized, "Your Highness, please spare me! Mingting is talking nonsense."
Prince Jing smiled mockingly and said nothing. He raised his finger at the guard, and the next second a cold light flashed, and the servant coughed up blood from his neck and fell to the ground.
Several old women around her let out broken, trembling gasps.
King Jing smiled nonchalantly, "Alright, now no one can testify against us."
"The problem is solved."
Everyone except Jiang Su felt their breath catch in their throats, and half of their scalps went numb. The surroundings were so quiet that Lin Qingwan could hear her teeth chattering.
Zhao Yan was next to her, and that warmth was still there, but the blood spreading on the ground made her feel cold.
Zhao Yan took half a step forward, blocking Lin Qingwan's view, his jet-black hair brushing against the corner of her eye.
He said, "Since the old lady doesn't speak, I will take that as your agreement."
The old lady stared in disbelief, her hands, which were gripping her cane, were sweating profusely, and she couldn't even manage a stiff smile.
Zhao Yan glanced at He Shi and Jiang Mingting again. Although Jiang Mingting was afraid, he felt that he had a clear conscience, and his feelings were written all over his face.
Zhao Yan raised an eyebrow. "Prime Minister Jiang, if you don't mind, I'll borrow some Jingbei troops from the Crown Prince right now and interrogate everyone in the manor. I don't believe we won't get clues about the drug."
Jiang Su frowned. "I wouldn't dare trouble Your Highness. It's just a small misunderstanding between the sisters; it can be resolved privately."
What a joke! If the Jingbei army surrounds the manor, Jiang Su won't need to attend court tomorrow.
The old lady was still unwilling, but when she heard that the soldiers were coming, she completely gave up that idea and hurriedly said, "It is already a sin to disturb the prince, how dare I let the prince suffer any more."
"He Shi, take Mingting back now!"
The old lady was quick-witted, and so was Jiang Mingting.
The He family couldn't be happier. It was obvious that Prince Jing wanted to protect Lin Qingwan. If the investigation really went on, even if it wasn't them, it would become them.
It's too late to regret it now; we can only accept our fate.
Jiang Su had someone escort the old lady back to her room to rest, and said he would send someone to repair the ancestral hall as soon as possible.
Jiang Yanwan had Xia Yan bring over ginger soup at some point, and Yingying stepped forward, saying, "Your Highness, please have some ginger soup."
"Qingwan didn't mean to grab your clothes when she was unconscious. If it caused you to catch a cold, I would be truly sorry."
Jiang Yanwan's gaze never left Prince Jing after he appeared.
She was clearly the future princess consort of Prince Jing, so why was the prince with Lin Qingwan?
First, he carefully took off his outer garment and let the unconscious Lin Qingwan hold it in her hand. Now, he domineeringly protected Lin Qingwan in front of everyone.
He didn't even glance at her from beginning to end.
Jiang Yanwan was heartbroken, but she still had to put on a generous and dignified smile.
But Zhao Yan didn't even lift his eyelids. "No need."
Jiang Yanwan had an idea. "You saved Qingwan from being punished. Yanwan thanks Your Highness for your great kindness on behalf of my sister. The night is cold, so please don't be careless."
Zhao Yan replied, "She kicked the person away herself and threw away the cane, so it can't be considered that I saved her."
"I just see that there are many loopholes, but no one speaks up for Miss Qingwan. I really can't bear it."
He sighed, which made Lin look ashamed.
Jiang Su spoke up promptly, "Please, Your Highness, come to the main hall for tea."
Zhao Yan didn't move, turning to look at Lin Qingwan. He had already noticed that her forehead was covered in cold sweat and the back of her clothes was covered in dust. "Were you injured in the plum grove?"
Lin Qingwan was still stunned by the warmth of being protected for no reason, her bright eyes meeting Zhao Yan's dazzling peach blossom eyes.
Zhao Yan's serious and determined expression made her heart beat slightly faster.
“No,” she explained.
Zhao Yan frowned. "Then why are you sweating profusely from the pain and unable to stand up straight?"
He saw it.
Of all those eyes here, only Zhao Yan saw it.
Lin Qingwan's throat tightened, and an indescribable emotion welled up inside her. "I..."
Zhao Yan immediately ordered his guards, "Summon the military doctor."
Jiang Su felt this was inappropriate and interjected, "There is a doctor on the estate."
Zhao Yan seemed not to hear and insisted, "Have the military doctor hurry up."
Lin Qingwan had never been cared for like this before. While feeling warm, she also felt uneasy. "Your Highness, actually I..."
Before she could finish speaking, Zhao Yan's gaze fell on the back of her hand. "Your old wounds are all healed? It seems the people below didn't fool me; those medicines were somewhat effective."
Lin Qingwan hurriedly bowed again, "Thank you for your generous gift, Your Highness."
Zhao Yan chuckled, "I have no use for him."
His nonchalant expression reminded Lin Qingwan not to overthink it, but the feeling of being cared for spread throughout her body like a poison.
Jiang Yanwan didn't miss a single word or glance between them. Her fingers were almost crushing the ginger soup bowl, and she couldn't hide the grievance in her eyes. She quietly retreated back to Lin's side.
