Chapter 47 Does Mother Want Me to Pay with My Life?

"Who taught her to use such methods to gain the elders' attention?" The worry that had just surfaced in Madam Lin's eyes immediately disappeared. She glanced at her husband beside her and said, "Aunt Rong is old and confused. Where did she learn the proper etiquette?"

Jiang Su seemed tired, closed his eyes and leaned against the carriage to rest, without responding.

Jiang Yanwan said, "Mother, you are being too cruel to Qingwan. Although it is for Qingwan's future, she has only just returned and has no experience in many things, so it is inevitable that she will make mistakes."

"Furthermore, even sages make mistakes, let alone ordinary people."

She herself felt extremely wronged, yet she still spoke up for Lin Qingwan.

Lin felt a pang of jealousy and couldn't help but compare herself to Lin Qingwan. Then she thought about how Lin Qingwan not only talked back to the old lady, but also dared to snatch the scepter and kick the servants. She was simply... unbearably barbaric!

"She deliberately wanted to make everyone suffer."

By the time they returned to the Prime Minister's residence, it was already quite late.

Lin Qingwan lifted the carriage curtain and saw Jiang Yanwan had come over early and reached out to help her.

She coldly withdrew her hand, thinking to herself that she could not accept such a blessing.

Jiang Yanwan bluntly asked, "Does Qingwan really hate me that much?"

"I know you're blaming me for not protecting you properly at the old house."

She lowered her eyes guiltily, "It's my fault for not doing a good job."

Lin Qingwan's pale face was full of speechlessness. "I didn't say that."

She frowned. "I didn't even open my mouth."

Miss, please let me go.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yanwan lowered her head and wiped away her tears.

Jiang Su and Madam Lin looked over. Madam Lin suppressed her displeasure and said, "Yan Wan, go back to Huaguang Courtyard first and have the imperial physician examine your brow bone again. Don't be careless."

"Qingwan, come to my room, I have something to tell you."

Lin Qingwan just wants to go back to her room and sleep!

Qin Ma reached out to her, "Miss Qingwan, let this old servant help you."

Helpless, Lin Qingwan leaned on Qin Ma to get out of the car, her head covered in sweat from the pain.

As Qin Ma helped her up the steps, she said, "If you were willing to let the army doctor check your pulse, you might not be in so much pain."

"Now you're the one suffering."

With each step Lin Qingwan took, her back ached, and she had no energy to retort.

When passing by Jiang Su, she was quite obedient and gritted her teeth to bow.

Jiang Su promptly replied, "No need."

"Speak nicely to your mother, and don't make her angry."

Just as Lin Qingwan was about to speak, she heard him say, "After your mother finishes giving her instructions, I also have something to say to you."

A light shone in Lin Qingwan's eyes. "Yes."

The father did not embarrass the mother, but instead used this as a reminder not to keep her for too long.

Lin Qingwan was very grateful and found that being in the same room with her mother was not so unbearable.

Orchid Garden.

After returning to her room, Madam Lin washed her hands and face, changed her clothes, and had tea. Qin Ma and Rong Ma served her inside, while Shuang Hong went in and out to serve tea and water. Lin Qingwan stood in the front hall.

Knowing she was injured, the fact that she was deliberately left unattended could only mean that her mother had given orders not to allow the servants to take care of her.

After about half a cup of tea's time, Qin Ma came out and looked at her, "Miss Qingwan, will you faint later? Don't let people misunderstand that Madam is treating you poorly."

"Madam will be ready soon."

Lin Qingwan's thin face was completely bloodless. "I didn't faint at the old house, so how could I just happen to faint in my mother's room?"

Since her father had given the order, her mother wouldn't keep her there for long, so Lin Qingwan wasn't too worried.

Soon, there was movement inside.

Just as she thought her mother had come out, she saw Rong Ma walk to the porch outside the door with her head down and kneel down with a thud.

Shuanghong was startled. "Aunt Rong, what are you doing?"

Rong Ma had served Madam Lin for many years and was in charge of the rules and regulations in the inner quarters. Her status was even higher than Qin Ma's, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she was in charge of all the maids in the inner courtyard. Moreover, Madam Lin respected her, and even if she did something wrong, she would never embarrass her in front of others.

This kneeling was nothing short of earth-shattering.

Rong Ma pursed her lips, "Madam is punishing me to kneel for an hour."

Shuanghong was dumbfounded. How could this be? What mistake could warrant such a severe punishment?

No, how could Rong Ma make a mistake!

"Go ahead and get busy," said Rong's mother.

Shuanghong's face was filled with complex and unspeakable emotions.

Lin Qingwan turned around with difficulty, looking at Rong Ma's slightly sunken and bluish eyes, which revealed Rong Ma's fatigue.

Lin Qingwan had a gut feeling that Rong Ma's punishment was related to her.

Before she could react, Madam Lin came out from the inner room. "Your manners were taught by Rong Ma. She praised you for being clever and quick-witted and for learning well. Yet you disgraced the Prime Minister's residence at the old house."

"You are injured, so I cannot punish you."

"This time, let Rong Ma take the blame for you."

Lin Qingwan couldn't help but show her indignation, her anger rising. "Letting others throw mud at you, refusing to accept your fate and punishment is also a disgrace to the Prime Minister's Mansion?"

Lin knew she would react this way, and said calmly, "There are countless ways to clear your name, but you insist on choosing a lose-lose situation. Learn from this experience and know that you are incompetent, so be more obedient."

If her mother treated her the same way she protected Jiang Yanwan, why would she have to go through all that trouble to stand up for herself?

Lin's eyes darkened, and she said in a heavy tone, "Also, let me remind you one more time: stay away from Prince Jing."

Lin Qingwan thought to herself, this is what truly displeases her mother.

"What ability do you think I have to influence the Prince's thoughts?" she countered.

Lin had anticipated that talking to her would be irritating, so she frowned and said, "Yan Wan truly treats you like a younger sister. Everyone knows she is the future Princess Consort of Jing. You can't control the Prince, but at least control yourself."

“If you are truly intelligent and quick-witted, you should stay away from the prince and advise him to get closer to Yan Wan.”

Lin Qingwan smiled bitterly, "The young lady has no ability herself and yet she blames others."
