Jiang Zhenlin leaned closer, half believing and half doubting. After a careful sniff, he found that it did indeed smell similar to Qionglu Ointment, even stronger, but the aftertaste was noticeably stronger than Qionglu Ointment. They were not the same thing.
The anger that had been building up earlier turned into waves of heat that swept across his face, making it impossible for him to lift his head.
This feeling lasted for a moment, then he snapped, "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
Lin Qingwan smiled helplessly, "It's not something to be proud of, it's not worth bringing it up. Otherwise, some people will think I'm playing the victim."
"You!" Jiang Zhenlin knew he had wronged her, but what kind of attitude was this!
The atmosphere between the two was tense, and Jiang Yanwan's voice slowly entered their ears, "It's good that you've figured it out."
"Ah Lin, say less. Don't let Qingwan suffer any more."
Jiang Yanwan blamed all the responsibility on Jiang Zhenlin with a single sentence. This young master was spoiled and pampered growing up. Even if he knew he was wrong, he would never bow his head in front of so many people.
The word "wronged" instantly reignited the flames in Jiang Zhenlin's eyes. "Fine! I sent the medicine apprentice over yesterday, and you didn't say anything. You had to make such a scene, just to say that I've wronged you!"
Stop with your underhanded tricks!
Jiang Zhenlin's self-righteous demeanor truly surprised Lin Qingwan. He didn't even blink while lying? She had thought he was young, short-tempered, and had a deep relationship with Jiang Yanwan, and that he had kicked her in a moment of panic yesterday.
But it turned out she was dreaming; Jiang Zhenlin was nothing but a wicked and unruly person!
Lin Qingwan's desire to reunite with her family was not seen. She was repeatedly told to be honest and dutiful, and even though she was wronged, she was accused of using underhanded tactics!
Lin Qingwan was furious. "Speaking of which, I also want to know why Young Master Jiang would ask the medicine apprentice to see me out of the blue?"
Jiang Zhenlin choked again. "Fine, they're waiting for me here!"
She's not a kind person. If people knew that she was kicked to the point of vomiting blood as soon as she came back, they would think she was right no matter what she did from now on!
Jiang Zhenlin was furious. "I only regret that I didn't kick you hard enough!"
Lin and Jiang Yanwan were shocked to hear this. He even kicked Lin Qingwan?
After all, she was her own daughter. Lin Shi looked Lin Qingwan over again, her voice a few degrees softer than before, "Where did you kick her?"
But then I thought, Lin Qingwan is just standing here, so it must be nothing serious. Ah Lin isn't someone who doesn't know his place, so maybe Lin Qingwan said something unpleasant that upset Ah Lin.
Therefore, Madam Lin suppressed her intention to invite the family physician, saying, "Why didn't you say so yesterday?"
Even though there was no chance in the front hall, and I later went to Ningsi Courtyard specifically to comfort her, she didn't mention it at all. If she didn't say anything then, why bring it up now?
Lin Qingwan caught her mother's worry, but only for a moment.
Her broken heart felt like it was being pierced by needles, the pleas for redemption only to leave her bleeding.
From beginning to end, regardless of whether she was innocent or not, her mother never paid attention to the frostbite on her hands, and even ignored the injuries on her exposed arms.
Knowing that Jiang Zhenlin had dumped her, she could only blame herself for not mentioning it yesterday.
An old woman and a coachman could accuse her of stealing, and Jiang Zhenlin's harsh words to her were of no consequence.
Lin Qingwan wondered, did she look so cheap?
If she hadn't noticed something amiss and hurriedly laid the groundwork outside, she couldn't imagine how vicious these people's faces would have been right now.
She felt excruciating pain with every breath. "Young Master Jiang thought I had said something to Miss Yan Wan that drove her to attempt suicide by jumping into the water, so he kicked me."
Lin frowned.
"At that time..." Lin Qingwan deliberately dragged out her words, noticing that although Jiang Zhenlin's eyes were filled with a fierce light, he dared not look at her, and his hands were clenched tightly.
"It really hurt at the time."
Hearing her clear voice, Jiang Zhenlin recalled the time she bled...
"After Mu Xue explained things to Young Master Jiang, he sent Yao Tu over, which I took as an apology to him."
Jiang Zhenlin's breath hitched, and he looked over in astonishment, but all he could see was Lin Qingwan's slender and resilient profile.
Lin Qingwan did not mention the incident of vomiting blood.
In her view, even if she spoke out, Lin wouldn't do anything; on the contrary, it would only fuel Jiang Zhenlin's anger and bring her no benefit whatsoever.
Jiang Zhenlin's tightly clenched fist visibly loosened.
Lin remained silent.
Jiang Yanwan said, "It's Alin's fault. I scolded him last night. In the end, it's my fault. I did something wrong yesterday, which made Qingwan suffer."
"Qingwan, blame me if you must, don't be angry with Alin."
Her eyes were filled with tears, and her face was full of self-blame.
Before Lin Qingwan could speak, Madam Lin interjected, "Silly child, it has nothing to do with you."
"Once things are cleared up, let's talk things out in the future. Never shout like this again and make a fool of ourselves." Madam Lin rubbed her temples, feeling somewhat annoyed.
Jiang Yanwan quickly helped her up, saying, "Mother, let me help you back to your room to rest."
Lin smiled and patted her hand affectionately, "Okay."
Lin thought to herself, Ah Lin is reckless, but Yan Wan knows to restrain his temper before talking about anything else. If Lin Qing Wan had spoken better at the door today, Ah Lin wouldn't have lost his temper.
She turned to look at Lin Qingwan, "From now on, if there's anything, have the maid report to me. You should rest well in the manor and not go out and wander around."
“Ah Lin is impulsive. You are the older sister, so speak more gently. He is not unreasonable.”
Lin Qingwan stood there, feeling as if a thousand arrows were piercing her heart. She felt her blood draining away little by little, her body growing cold, and her limbs stiffening unbearably.
Ultimately, it's all her fault.
As she watched Lin's retreating figure, she thought of the fifteen years she had spent in her adoptive mother's care, and how cautious she was in her words and actions, afraid that she might inadvertently displease her adoptive mother and be whipped again.
