Chapter 8 Then I'll apologize to her.

These past two days, the servants have been much more well-behaved around Lin Qingwan.

Everything she needed in her courtyard was delivered promptly, and people would ask her what she wanted for each meal in advance, as if they really treated her like Miss Jiang.

No one bothered Lin Qingwan, and she was happy to have some peace and quiet. After all, she was poisoned and only by keeping her emotions stable could she possibly live for another year or two. There was no reason for her to deliberately walk down a path to her death.

However, there is a problem: the Prime Minister's residence provides food and drink, but she has no money.

She needed to prepare medicine to suppress the toxins in her body, a task that couldn't be delegated to others. Fortunately, she reached a cooperation agreement with the pharmacy owner that day.

Unexpectedly, the first thing she did after becoming the daughter of the Prime Minister was to earn money to buy medicine for herself.

Lin Qingwan regretted coming back.

After two days of peace, Jiang Yanwan came to visit.

She smiled brightly, "Xia Yan, bring the things over here."

She was completely at ease, almost grabbing Lin Qingwan's hand. "I'm sorry. My mother has been having headaches these past two days, and I've been taking care of her at the Orchid Garden, which is why I haven't had a chance to come see you."

Her words subtly mocked Lin Qingwan, the biological daughter, for not caring about her birth mother, while also highlighting Lin Qingwan's indispensable position in the household. Her practiced ease made Lin Qingwan feel increasingly like an outsider.

"These bottles of medicine are for treating frostbite."

After saying that, she added, "My mother had the royal physician prepare it; it's guaranteed not to leave a scar."

Lin Qingwan remained expressionless. "My hand is almost healed, no need to trouble yourself."

Jiang Yanwan's smile vanished. "Are you still blaming Ah Lin?"

“His mother had a difficult time giving birth to him and it was only with great difficulty that she was saved. As a result, the family doted on Ah Lin a lot.”

“He hasn’t left the house these past two days. He knows he wronged you, and he’s upset about it.”

"If you're still angry, I'll have him come over and apologize to you."

Looking at Jiang Yanwan's sensible and articulate manner, Lin Qingwan could easily understand why her mother liked her so much.

If she were truly devoted to the Prime Minister's residence as she claimed, she wouldn't have jumped into the lake just before she entered the house, wouldn't have claimed to be a fake in front of her parents, and wouldn't have discovered that the Qionglu Ointment had triggered Jiang Zhenlin's attack.

She'll try to be a good person again once she has a falling out with her mother and brother.

Her methods weren't particularly clever, but in matters of the heart, Lin Qingwan couldn't compete with her.

Lin Qingwan originally had no feelings for Jiang Yanwan, but now she just couldn't stand seeing her smug. "He's my own brother, the family I've been waiting for for fifteen years. How could I be really angry?"

As expected, Jiang Yanwan couldn't manage a smile and nodded awkwardly, "That's good then."

Lin Qingwan said meaningfully, "I'm worried that the servants in his courtyard may have ulterior motives and corrupt him."

Jiang Yanwan remained calm and said, "Lai Pozi dares to make wild guesses just because she is an old servant in the mansion and is favored by A Lin. I have brought her here, and from now on she will serve in your courtyard. You can do whatever you want with her."

This is clearly an open attempt to place spies around her.

Because of Lin Qingwan's insistence, Granny Lai was fined her monthly allowance, and she must have held a grudge. In the future, if I have any trouble, I can blame it on Granny Lai.

Lin Qingwan knew her purpose and did not refuse, "I only have one maid in my courtyard, so it would be appropriate for her to stay."

"You're so thoughtful."

Jiang Yanwan's eyes crinkled into a smile. "Of course. There's one more thing, I've already discussed it with my mother. From today onwards, Rong Ma will teach you manners."

"Next month is the end of the year. Father holds a high position and will have many social engagements starting from the twelfth lunar month. Everyone in the capital knows that you have returned to the mansion, so you will inevitably have to go out and show your face."

Seeing that she didn't speak, Jiang Yanwan's smile deepened. "Don't worry, it's not hard to learn. Aunt Rong has a very good temper."

Lin Qingwan was very beautiful, with dark and bright eyes. When she stared at someone, she exuded an indescribable pressure, which might also be due to Jiang Yanwan's guilty conscience.

"You don't want to learn the rules?" Jiang Yanwan asked hesitantly. "I know you're used to being free outside. Even though you're well-off in a noble family, you still have to follow the rules."

Lin Qingwan smiled and said, "I didn't say I was unwilling."

"You've arranged everything very well; no wonder Mother likes you."

Jiang Yanwan's heart skipped a beat. She had thought that she would back down, but she didn't expect her to be so calm.

"With loving parents raising her, Yanwan should do her best to help them."

"You can ask me anything you don't understand." Jiang Yanwan was full of enthusiasm, but you could tell that she was emphasizing that she was better than Lin Qingwan at all times.

Lin Qingwan felt that her mother, Lin Shi, did not seem like a scheming person. How could she have raised such a kind-faced but wicked Jiang Yanwan? Or was it that Cheng Shi's bloodline inherited scheming?

Thinking of the Cheng family, she raised an eyebrow. "Don't you want to ask me anything about the Cheng family?"

"For example, why did she refuse to return to the Prime Minister's residence for fifteen years? Why didn't she care about her own daughter...?"

Jiang Yanwan didn't expect her to bring this up, and her expression stiffened. "Qingwan, Mother said that you and I are twins."

“That’s just to fool outsiders,” Lin Qingwan said, emphasizing each word.

Tears welled up in Jiang Yanwan's eyes. "You...are you trying to remind me that I've taken your place?"

Lin Qingwan shook her head. "What I meant was that Cheng's dying wish was to hear you call her 'Mother' once."

"She waited for you for three days, clinging to life."

Jiang Yanwan's lips trembled, and the light in her eyes gradually turned cold. Just as she was about to speak, she heard a servant in the courtyard call out "Young Master."

Jiang Zhenlin has arrived!

She immediately concealed the ruthlessness in her eyes, wiped away her tears, and said, "Qingwan, you don't need to remind me like this. I know my place. I have no right to compete with you for anything."

"I only want to repay my parents for raising me."

"If you don't like me, I won't go out. Just don't upset your mother; she actually wants to make it up to you."

Jiang Yan said a lot in a tearful voice, then turned and left, her eyes blurred with tears as she bumped into Jiang Zhenlin's arms.

"Sister."
