Chapter 4: The brothers heard Li Xingran's true feelings and their hearts shattered.

"Father, Mother, we're back. Where's my sister? Where is she? Quick, let us see her."

When the five sons of the Li family learned that their mother had given birth to a younger sister, they barely made it out of school and ran all the way home.

When they entered, several guys of similar age almost got stuck inside the door.

When Li Ting saw them like this, he swept his stern gaze over them, and his sons knew that their general father was angry.

So they stepped outside and lined up to come in one by one. The five young masters stood in a row in front of Xu Ningyou's bed and greeted her: "Mother, you've worked hard. Are you feeling alright now?"

Xu Ningyou smiled gently and said, "Mother is fine. Go and see your little sister, she's so pretty."

"Father, can we see our sister now?" The five sons asked Li Ting cautiously in a pleading tone, afraid of being scolded by Li Ting again.

"Let your mother rest properly and don't make a sound, or I'll skin you alive," Li Ting said sternly.

"We understand," the five sons replied softly in unison.

Li Ting carefully handed Li Xingran to Li Ruizhang. The other younger brothers secretly envied their eldest brother for being the first to hold his sister; it was so unfair! Their father always insisted on doing things in order!

Li Ruizhang looked at the little girl lying in the swaddling clothes with her big eyes wide open. Her big eyes blinked, and she had a pert little nose and a pink and tender face. The little girl was really beautiful.

Then, Li Ruizhang took something out of his purse—a rattle drum with a jade handle inlaid with gold—and shook it a few times, producing a clear, "dong dong dong" sound.

Li Xingran waved her little hands happily and kicked her feet.

"Father, Mother, my little sister seems to really like this rattle drum!" So Li Ruizhang placed the rattle drum next to Li Xingran.

Li Ting nodded; his eldest brother was always calm and collected. It seemed he had prepared the rattle drum well in advance; it certainly wasn't something he bought on his way home from school today. A hastily bought one wouldn't be this exquisite.

When she saw her older brother and then that rattle drum, Li Xingran was so excited she wanted to scream.

Isn't that gold inlaid with jade? Wow! This guy seems to be quite wealthy!

[Big brother is so handsome! And he's so wealthy; the quality of that jade and the gold jewelry are things most people couldn't afford!]

[Sobbing, what a tragic end for such a good older brother. He was framed by Princess Xiao Yuyan, who falsely accused him of ruining her maid's reputation. He remained steadfast and refused to admit guilt. It's such a pity for this upright and honorable man; he was ultimately castrated, unable to hold his head high in front of the world, and after the Li family was wiped out, he was also beheaded.]

Upon hearing this, Li Ruizhang paused, then looked at his younger brothers, who were also stunned.

Is this...is this what my sister really thinks?

Li Ruizhang's heart was in turmoil: that voice seemed to have foretold his life. Would he really live out his life like that?

How could he be accused of such a crime and suffer such a humiliating disgrace?

The second brother, Li Ruiheng, was about to ask where the voice came from when his eldest brother stopped him.

Seeing this, the other three younger brothers also fell silent. The younger brothers always listened to their eldest brother.

The five brothers observed their parents' expressions, but found nothing unusual! Could it be that only they, the five brothers, could hear their sister's thoughts?

Li Ting remained silent after hearing his daughter's rambling. However, he had already made up his mind to take precautions and protect his family from now on.

Xu Ningyou also formed her own plan in her heart.

The second brother, Li Ruiheng, and the third brother, Li Ruijin, were twin brothers, one year and eight months younger than the eldest brother, Li Ruizhang, and were also fourteen years old at this time.

Looking at his younger sister, Li Ruizhang felt a surge of affection and wanted to hold her a little longer, but it was the other people's turn. So, Li Ruizhang gently placed Li Xingran into the arms of his second brother, Li Ruiheng.

Li Ruiheng was holding his younger sister when Li Ruijin moved closer to him. Both of them were looking at Li Xingran at the same time.

[I'm dizzy. The Li family's genes are amazing! These are simply handsome men! The two older brothers look so alike, are they twins?! Only identical twins look this much alike. I can't tell them apart, I just can't!]

Li Ruiheng and Li Ruijin felt a sweet warmth in their hearts; their little sister really knew how to talk.

But what does "identical twins" mean?

The two took out the gifts they had prepared: a pair of jade ruyi (a type of scepter).

The jade was of similar quality to what Li Ruizhang had prepared, but its superior craftsmanship made it stand out.

When Xu Ningyou saw the gifts her twin sons brought out, she couldn't help but praise them in her heart.

These two sons are natural-born businessmen, with keen eyes and a knack for picking out good deals.

Wow, a jade ruyi! Such a beautiful jade ruyi! I've only ever seen them on TV before. Alas! No matter how many treasures I have, I won't live to enjoy them! I can only live to nine years old—just nine years of life!

However, the two older brothers fared even worse. The second and third brothers were deceived by the second prince and forced into the illegal salt trade. Before the entire Li family was even slaughtered, they lost their lives, and the family's property was confiscated.

Poor second and third sisters-in-law, one threw herself into the river with her newborn baby, and the other hanged herself when she was only six months pregnant.

Everyone in the room who heard Li Xingran's heartfelt words felt as if an invisible net was closing in on the Li family.

But no one showed any shock. The Li family were all intelligent people, and each of them had a plan in mind.

Li Ruiheng and Li Ruijin have already listed the Second Prince as an enemy force and will never have any dealings with him in the future.

The remaining two were twelve and ten years old. Li Ting was worried, so he took his daughter and carried her to the two of them.

“Little sister, I am your fourth brother, Li Ruiqi, and this is your fifth brother, Li Ruiyue.”

"Here, these are the gifts we prepared for you." The two were still children at heart, and what they prepared were small toys, but these were toys that were extremely difficult to buy in the Nan Chen Kingdom.
