"Hey! What are you doing? Put me down right now, or you'll hurt yourself..."
Su Tang called out softly, afraid of aggravating Hu Shen's wound, and ultimately did not struggle.
Upon entering the two people's room, it was indeed warm and cozy.
Once inside the house, Hu Shen put Su Tang down.
If he doesn't come back to live here soon, his injuries will never heal.
“The babies are still outside, let them in too.” Su Tang gently pushed Hu Shen’s hand.
“I’m not going.” Hu Shen remained motionless like a statue. “They have fur, and they’ll be indoors, so they won’t be cold.”
He slept alone in this room, and Ah Tang didn't even care if he was cold.
Hu Shen wasn't too arrogant after all. Seeing that Su Tang's brows were about to furrow, he added:
“I’ve lit the fireplace outside too. It’ll be warm outside soon. Let them play outside. The cubs don’t need such delicate care, otherwise they’ll grow up to be weak and frail like females.”
After saying this, Su Tang did not refute it further.
Su Tang doesn't really argue with the parenting philosophies of the ancient continent.
After all, this world is different from the place she used to live in.
"How's your injury? Did you hurt yourself while you were tending the fire?" Su Tang turned around to look at Hu Shen's injury.
He was still bandaged, mostly on his chest, arms, and thighs. Some of the less serious injuries had already scabbed over, so the bandages were removed.
The large area of scabs looked shocking.
Seeing the worry in Su Tang's eyes, Hu Shen knew that she was worried about scarring from the wound. These past few days, she had been constantly talking about finding herbs to remove scars.
He initially wanted to say that it wasn't a big deal for a male to have a few scars, but then he thought about it again and lowered his eyes.
"I didn't touch it, but the wound has been hurting at night these past few days, so I haven't been sleeping well."
"It hurts at night? I change your dressing every night before bed. Has the injury worsened and the medicine isn't working anymore...?"
That medicine was for pain relief, and she specially changed it for Hu Shen before bed so that he could sleep well.
"The medicine works, but the night is too long, and the effect wears off in the latter half of the night," Hu Shen replied without batting an eye, while casually brushing aside Su Tang's small hand that was trying to check her wound.
"Why didn't you call me?" Su Tang stared at him with wide eyes.
“I’m afraid of disturbing your sleep.” Hu Shen paused, then got to the point, “Why don’t you come back to sleep tonight?”
"You won't feel pain anymore now that I'm back?" Su Tang looked at him amusedly, finally understanding what he wanted to say.
Hu Shen seemed not to understand her expression and said in a serious tone:
"If you come back, you'll know if I'm in pain at night, and you can help me change my dressings."
That makes some sense. After thinking for a moment, Su Tang nodded.
"Okay, I'll go back to sleep then."
Before Hu Shen could even be happy, he saw Su Tang take out an animal skin from the cabinet, fold it into a long strip, and place it on the kang (a heated brick bed), which just separated the two areas.
"Luckily, this kang is big. You can sleep inside today, and I'll sleep outside. You're not allowed to say no. If you don't agree, I'll go sleep with the kids."
Su Tang sat in the smaller area outside.
She was a restless sleeper, but she knew that Hu Shen was even more restless, and she didn't want to wake up to find Hu Shen injured again.
Hu Shen looked resentful. After thinking for a moment, he realized that sleeping in the same bed was better than not being in the same room.
He nodded reluctantly, "You can sleep here."
He couldn't hug Ah Tang, nor could he let those kids have it.
The room was warm, and Su Tang even broke out in a sweat after a while, so she quickly took off her mink coat.
Before long, the fireplace warmed the whole house.
Once the coal was burned, the stone house seemed to become isolated from the outside world.
Su Tang came out, took a few sweet potatoes from the kitchen, and buried them under the fireplace. The five little ones stuck their bottoms out and stood guard in front of the fireplace.
I was thinking of going to check on my parents and brother, but before I even left the house, Su Jianyuan came to knock on the door.
"Brother, what brings you here?"
Su Tang opened the door, and Su Jianyuan took off his cloak and hat, shook them outside, and the unmelted snow fell down.
He took out the large basket he had been holding close to his chest and placed it on the ground.
It was covered with a thick animal hide, and when it was lifted, steaming heat and a delicious aroma wafted out.
"Mom roasted sweet potatoes and corn. Knowing you're lazy, she specially asked me to bring them over."
After saying that, she continued, "Oh, right, Mother also told you not to worry about Ying Liuer. Last night, as soon as it snowed, she had Daqing bring Liuer over to stay with us."
There are five rooms over there; that should be enough for Ying Liuer to stay in.
Su Tang nodded and was about to pull Su Jianyuan inside to warm up when she saw Su Jianyuan wave his hand, put on his cloak, and walk out.
"I'm going back. My mother told you not to come over unless necessary, just come over for dinner tonight. It's snowing heavily outside and it's inconvenient to walk."
After saying that, he turned back and gave Hu Shen an ambiguous look.
Before Su Tang could say a word, Su Jianyuan left in a hurry.
She looked helpless, and it really did feel like she was getting married.
Even though she has a partner now, her mother still worries about her.
The five children saw snow for the first time and curiously gathered at the door, wanting to go out with Su Jianyuan.
The cold air couldn't dampen their burning curiosity.
Before he could even peek out, Hu Shen slammed the door shut.
The cubs blinked and looked at Su Tang, their meaning clear: they wanted to go out and play.
Before Su Tang could speak, Hu Shen said:
"You can't go out, it's freezing cold outside. You can go out if you want, but you can't come back in. You'll have to sleep in the snow tonight."
What if I bring in the cold air and then hug Ah Tang, making her cold?
