Chapter Seventeen, Second Plot Unlocked

"What happened?"

Lin Xia, who was taking a nap in the thatched hut, quickly came out of the hut.

"I don't know, it sounded like Dad's voice." Su Tang shook her head.

The mother and daughter looked bewildered and quickly went to look to the south.

When they arrived at the open space, Su Tang saw Su Guodong standing under a tree that had been cut in half, and quickly went over to ask:

"Dad, what happened?"

"Honey, where are you hurt?" Lin Xia asked with concern as she went to check on Su Guodong.

"I'm not injured," Su Guodong shook his head, looking heartbroken.

"Our bone knife is broken, so we can't cut down trees anymore. We have no tools, how are we going to build a wooden house now!"

Su Tang then noticed that he was holding two pieces of yellowish-brown material in his hands. Upon closer inspection, she realized they were bone knives.

Lin Xia understood what had happened and angrily pinched Su Guodong's waist:

"The way she was howling was so scary, I thought something terrible had happened!"

Su Tang quickly comforted him, "It's alright, Dad. Doesn't Big Brother still have a bone knife? Let's use that for now and figure out a solution later."

Just then, Su Shiwei, who had gone outside to cut down trees, returned.

He hoisted a thick log onto the ground with a thud, brandished two bone knives, looked at the three men, and said in a detached voice:

"Now there are none left."

Without a bone knife, the construction of the wooden house came to a standstill.

The four of them stared at each other blankly.

Su Tang thought for a moment and suggested:

"Otherwise, I'll go to the Gray Wolf tribe and see if any orcs are willing to trade bone knives for fruit."

We can't just give up building the cabin because we don't have the tools.

"No need. Bone knives break too easily. Even if we replace them, they won't last long." Su Shiwei shook her head, gently rejecting the suggestion.

"What can we do? We can't just chop it down with our bare hands." Su Guodong felt hopeless; he was still waiting to build the wooden house so he could start farming!

Su Tang blinked and looked at Su Shiwei, who remained completely calm.

"Does Brother have another idea?"

Su Shiwei smiled indulgently and nodded, saying:

“I can try to make a stone knife; I think the stones by the river should be usable.”

"Son, is this going to work? How do you make a knife out of stone? How long would it take to sharpen it?" Lin Xia asked with a puzzled look.

Su Shiwei didn't explain much, and led the group to the riverbank.

The river water was crystal clear, and there were many smooth and translucent stones on the bottom.

Su Shiwei squatted down, picked and chose, picked up a stone slightly larger than the palm of her hand, and smashed it down on the large rock on the riverbank.

The stone, which should have been hard, shattered into pieces in an instant.

He picked up one of the thin stone fragments, one side of which was as sharp as a knife, while the other side was rather blunt.

"This rock has a special structure. When broken, it easily forms a sharp edge, which can be used as a stone knife or stone axe," Su Shiwei explained as he showed it to the group.

By attaching a sharp stone to a wooden stick, you can make a stone axe.

Although it's not as handy as a modern axe, it's still much easier to use than the bone knife from before.

"Big brother, you're amazing." Su Tang gave him a thumbs up without hesitation.

Su Shiwei made several more stone axes and picked out a few handy stone knives for Su Tang and Lin Xia to use as knives, either for cutting things or for self-defense.

With the tool problem solved, Su Guodong could finally cut down trees and build the wooden house with peace of mind.

After all that fuss, Su Tang and Lin Xia lost their appetite for a nap, so they waited by the hourglass to pick the apples.

Bored, Su Tang learned how to weave baskets from Lin Xia, and made more containers to store things in the future.

During the years Lin Xia was a housewife, she was so bored at home that she learned almost everything, from knitting sweaters, sewing shoes, and making clothes to various knitting handicrafts.

Now it's come in handy.

After an afternoon, the two of them had woven eight large baskets from the vines they had collected in the forest.

The farm's apples have been harvested five times. Su Tang went into her spatial dimension to count the quantity. Excluding those taken out at noon, there were a total of sixty-five apples and ten gold coins in the warehouse.

We haven't bought enough corn seeds yet.

After much deliberation, Su Tang decided to sell forty apples first and use fifty gold coins to unlock the second plot of land.

The more land you have, the more you will harvest.

If we plant for another day tomorrow, we can sell the corn seeds.

After eating apples all day, Su Tang's mouth felt bland. Thinking of the fragrant boiled corn and roasted corn, she couldn't help but swallow.

The lives of primitive people were truly incredibly difficult!

After leaving the farm, Su Guodong and Su Shiwei returned. The two had cut down more than a dozen trees that afternoon, and piled up the logs of all sizes on the open ground to dry them for later use. This would prevent the wooden house from becoming damp and infested with insects, and make it more stable and durable.

Su Guodong didn't understand; he just did whatever his son told him to do.

"Son, you've cut down so many trees today, can we start building the log cabin tomorrow?" Su Guodong rubbed his grimy hands together, looking on with anticipation.

“Not enough, Dad. Our house is quite big, and we need a lot of wood.” Su Shiwei quickly dashed Su Guodong’s hopes.

Su Tang found it somewhat amusing to see her father's impatient expression.

"Dad, this is the house we'll live in from now on. We need to build it properly and not rush it. What if my eldest brother builds the house unstable in order to speed things up?"

Upon hearing this, Su Guodong immediately stopped being anxious.

“My daughter is right, Dad is not in a hurry, building a house takes time!” He nodded repeatedly.

I hope that when we're sleeping, the house collapses and the whole family dies together.

While two men were guarding the house, Su Tang and Lin Xia went to the Gray Wolf Tribe together again.

I made an appointment with Lang Nini yesterday to go change her breast milk at the same time today.

Wolf Nini was the first beastman to show kindness and lend a helping hand to Su Tang after she came to this world. Even after discovering that the farm's crops had special effects, she was still willing to trade with them.

When Su Tang arrived at the cave entrance, Lang Nini had already prepared the milk in advance.

"I thought you weren't coming."

Upon seeing Su Tang arrive, Lang Nini revealed a gentle smile.

"How could that be? My baby still needs to drink milk."

Su Tang could tell that she looked better than yesterday, and even her smile was more relaxed.

As soon as he finished speaking, a few short, childish wolf howls echoed from the cave.

Wolf Nini was a little embarrassed. "I don't know why my cub keeps barking today."

Her face was full of love when she spoke of the cubs.

Su Tang recalled that she hadn't heard the cub's voice when she arrived yesterday, so she figured the cub must have eaten an apple and had the energy to make a fuss.

"This is a good thing, it proves that the cub is healthy and in good health." It's always better for the cub to be lively and energetic than sickly.

After Su Tang finished speaking, she couldn't help but think of the five kittens at home.

They also ate apple puree, so why do they just sleep all day long?

Thinking that she hadn't checked on the cubs many times today and avoided going into the straw shed whenever possible, Su Tang suddenly felt a pang of self-reproach.

Will she spoil the cubs?
