Chapter 19 The Past
Lin Qian was eating with her bowl in hand, watching Zhang Yufang teaching Zhao Xiu how to embroider.
"Aunt Zhang, your embroidery is so beautiful! Have you learned it before?" Lin Qian asked curiously.
Zhang Yufang nodded: "Yes, I learned this when I was a maid. I was able to raise Xiao Jing thanks to this skill."
When Zhang Yufang was young, she was sold to a rich family as a maid. Later, when she grew up, her parents redeemed her.
Maybe Zhang Yufang was born with a weak bond with her parents. She was taken home at the age of fourteen, and both her parents died when she was sixteen.
Later, she married Wei Jing's father.
He was a handsome young man, a nice person, and was good to her.
Unfortunately, he listens to his widowed mother very much. In modern terms, he is a mama's boy.
Zhang Yufang is also a person with a strong temper. Usually, her husband listens to his mother-in-law. Although she feels a little uncomfortable, she can't mind it after all because filial piety is the most important thing.
But later, her husband and mother-in-law wanted to strangle her biological son, saying that Wei Jing was the reincarnation of a wandering ghost, and if he lived, the whole family would suffer.
That was the first time Zhang Yufang quarreled with her husband and mother-in-law.
Until the mother-in-law said that if Wei Jing was not killed, both mother and son would be kicked out.
Zhang Yufang didn't say much and immediately took her son and left.
As a maid in someone else's house, she naturally received a monthly salary. She could also embroider and had hidden a lot of her own money.
She used this money and her embroidery skills to raise Wei Jing to this age.
"Since you are so interested, do you want me to teach you?" Zhang Yufang asked as she saw Lin Qian staring at her embroidering.
Lin Qian looked down at her fingers and shook her head.
Although she learns things quickly, she lacks patience and is only interested in learning something for a short period of time. Besides, she wants to study medicine now and has no time to learn embroidery.
Zhao Xiu glanced at Lin Qian and said with a smile, "Sister Zhang, don't worry about her. She is impatient and can't do this kind of delicate work."
"Mom, you still understand me." Lin Qian threw Zhao Xiu a coquettish glance, then turned to look at Lin Shuo and Wei Jing.
There were two people in the room, and no one knew what they were doing.
"What are you two doing?" Lin Qian asked curiously when she saw the two men squatting on the ground.
Wei Jing and Lin Shuo looked up, and then Wei Jing said, "You're back? Why didn't you practice martial arts with us today? Where did you go?"
Lin Qian squeezed over and said, "Oh, isn't Grandpa's old cold legs acting up? I went to town to get him some medicine. What are you two doing?"
Lin Shuo moved aside, and Lin Qian then discovered that there were several traditional Chinese characters on the ground in front of them.
"I asked Shuo Shuo to learn to read. Do you want to learn with me?" Wei Jing said with a smile, and then asked.
Lin Qian nodded, hurriedly finished the rice in the bowl, and then came over to watch Wei Jing write.
What Wei Jing wrote should be the content of the Thousand Character Classic, which is relatively simple. Lin Qian and Lin Shuo are not really illiterate. After Wei Jing wrote it several times, the two of them were able to remember it all.
"Brother Wei Jing, you are a student now, so you should have books, right? Where are your books?" Lin Qian suddenly asked.
If there were books, she would be able to recognize a lot by guessing. If she read more, she should learn faster than Wei Jing teaching her one by one.
"Because I was sick, my mother sold all her books. I don't have any books anymore." Wei Jing said a little depressed.
Lin Qian smiled sheepishly and said, "It's okay. Let's go up the mountain a few more times to find herbs to sell, and your book will be back soon."
Wei Jing nodded, her beautiful eyes curved into a beautiful arc, and her long eyelashes curled up gently.
"Sister, when you went to the town to get medicine today, why didn't you bring those pieces of Poria cocos to sell?" Lin Shuo asked.
Lin Qian then remembered Fuling's story and slapped her head, saying, "Oh! I forgot."
Lin Shuo rolled his eyes.
"Looking at you, let's pick the safflower tomorrow, dry it, and then take it to Renhetang to sell it this afternoon along with the Poria cocos."
"So what do we do now?" Lin Shuo asked.
Lin Qian pulled Wei Jing aside and said, "I have something I want to ask you."
"you say."
Then Lin Qian asked Wei Jing to help copy "A Study of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians".
Wei Jing was very curious about the fact that Lin Qian could recite the entire text but could not write it.
"This is what an old man in the mountains told me. He taught me to memorize a lot, so I can only recite but not write. I don't understand what they mean." Lin Qian could only find an excuse to fool people.
Wei Jing believed it.
Lin Shuo was not interested in such things. After staying in the house bored for a while, he carried his basket and dagger and went up the mountain again.
In the evening, Wei Jing copied three chapters of "A Study of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians", which took up more than ten sheets of paper.
After finishing their meal, the family of four entered the space to practice, and Lin Qian told them about her encounter with the old beggar today.
"I can be sure that he is really a hidden master. Unfortunately, he is unwilling to accept me as his disciple." Lin Qian said with a pursed mouth.
Lin Wu smiled and patted Lin Qian's head, saying, "If you don't want to say it, then don't say it. You are my daughter, the smartest one. I believe you can learn something on your own."
Lin Shuo also nodded and said, "That's right, if I want to learn something, I can learn it very quickly, even without a master."
Knowing that the two were trying to comfort her, Lin Qian smiled, but only she knew that medicine was a difficult subject to understand.
If she relies solely on her own thinking, she can only learn half-baked knowledge and will never achieve anything great.
Zhao Xiu said, "If he really doesn't want to take you as his apprentice, you can still find another master. I think the owner of Renhetang is good, and he seems to like you very much."
Lin Qian thought about it and nodded. There are so many doctors in the world, not just the old beggar.
After figuring it out, Lin Qian went to look for medical books again, but this time she took the introductory book on traditional Chinese medicine, "Tangtou Ge". If she wanted to become an apprentice and learn medicine, she had to show sincerity and lay a solid foundation.
The next day, Lin Qian and the other two went out for a run before dawn, and then came back to practice boxing and sword fighting.
After breakfast, Lin Qian first boiled some medicine for Lin Changshen to drink.
"My leg is fine. It doesn't hurt when the weather is good. Why are you wasting this money?" Lin Changcan looked at Lin Qian who was standing by the small stove and making medicine for him, and blamed her.
"Dad, I gave Qianqian the money to buy the medicine. It's cheap, it won't cost much, and it can cure your leg, isn't it better?"
Lin Wu said after hearing what Lin Changcan said.
After hearing this, Lin Changcan's eyes flashed with tears. He had lived a lonely life for most of his life and was about to be buried, but he was blessed to have such a good son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
"Grandpa, this is the prescription I prescribed for you. You must drink it carefully!" Lin Qian said, turning around.
Lin Changcan didn't take Lin Qian's words to heart at all. He just took out a tael of silver and wanted to hand it to Lin Wu, but Lin Wu confiscated it.
"Dad, we're a family, let's not get into this. Keep this money. If we ever run out of money, we'll definitely ask you for it."
"Okay, I'll keep it. If you run out of money, you'll have to ask for it."
