Chapter 146 Life Has a Future (1/2)

Tian Haiying refused to leave.

"That won't do. We're already here, so we have to get this sorted out."

"Since everyone's here, let's take out anything from your family that hasn't been sorted out and divide it up, so we can avoid any future disputes."

After she finished speaking, she stared at the old woman's somewhat guilty face.

"Don't try to talk nonsense with me. Hurry up and distribute the grain your family still has. When the team distributes the new grain, it will be distributed to each family according to their individual circumstances!"

At this point, she turned to look at the captain's expression. Seeing that he nodded slightly, she turned back to continue staring at the old sour woman.

As expected, the old sour woman did not disappoint her, leaving her utterly shocked.

"What?! You're eyeing my grain?!"

Upon hearing this, Tian Haiying rolled up her sleeves and looked at her with an unfriendly expression.

"What did you just say? I didn't quite catch that. Can you say it again? You seem to be saying someone is after your grain?"

The old woman was almost in tears, but she still had to force a smile.

"No, no, the brigade leader is absolutely fair. We had already separated our households, so it's only right that the newly distributed grain should go to them."

If it weren't for the old woman's barely concealed distress as she talked about grain, people would have truly believed her story.

Tian Haiying glanced at her without changing her expression.

"Alright, since that's the case, let's quickly distribute the grain in your house as well. By the way, besides grain, is there anything else in your family that needs to be distributed?"

As Tian Haiying spoke, her gaze fell upon their chicken coop.

As soon as she noticed Tian Haiying's gaze, the old woman yelled and jumped in front of her, blocking her view.

"It's all gone. Everything's gone from the house. All that's left is a little money for my husband and me to live on. What else could we possibly have?"

Tian Haiying didn't respond to her, but instead looked at the three sons and daughters-in-law of the Zhou family who were about to separate their property.

"Is there anything else in your family that your mother hasn't mentioned that needs to be divided?"

Everyone could see that the old woman was reluctant to part with those chickens. The Zhou family's daughters-in-law knew even better that their mother-in-law treasured those chickens terribly, since they were the ones that laid eggs.

But they all shook their heads, not intending to fight the old woman for those chickens.

Seeing their reaction, Tian Haiying sighed slightly, but she could understand their actions.

First, it would be good enough if the family could separate smoothly; second, there's no need to divide everything so clearly, lest things fall apart.

"Okay, that's settled then. Let's divide it up quickly, then we'll all go our separate ways. Oh, and what about you little families? Are you planning to build houses or continue living together?"

The three brothers looked at each other, then whispered a word to their wives before finally making a decision.

"Uncle Brigade Leader, Aunt Haiying, let's build one ourselves. We'll need your help to get the land approved for our house later."

Also, if possible, we don't want to move far away. We'd just build a small yard around my parents' yard, one for each family. That way, it'll be easier for us to take care of them.

The captain nodded after listening and agreed on the spot.

“Okay, there’s not much farmland around here anyway, so it’s perfect for building a house.”

However, you are both parents and still young. If you don't plan to have more children in the future, I wouldn't recommend building a small yard. But it's up to you.
