Everything went smoothly after that. By the time the two boarded the train, it was almost noon, and with Sheng Yi by their side, they were able to buy sleeper tickets without any problems.
However, when they got into the car, they both noticed that they had run into an acquaintance again—Lu Zheng.
When Lu Zheng saw the two of them, he paused for a moment, then returned to normal and greeted them with a smile.
"Happy New Year to you both, what brings you here?"
Now that they're married, Sheng Yi naturally won't be as jealous as before. Seeing how nice the other person's attitude is, he nodded with a smile.
"Happy New Year, Officer Lu! We're getting ready to go back to the unit. Come with me this time and see what's going on."
Lu Zheng immediately understood what he meant. His smile froze for a moment, but he quickly adjusted his expression.
"So, you two are already married, or is your wedding just around the corner? I wonder if I might have the chance to ask for a piece of wedding candy?"
Zhu Qing glanced at Sheng Yi and immediately picked up the conversation.
"Yes, yes, we absolutely must have it."
As she spoke, she took out a bag of candy from her shoulder bag and handed it to Lu Zheng with a smile.
Sheng Yi watched her actions and explained to Lu Zheng with a smile:
“We did get married not long ago, just before the Lunar New Year, but most people were at home celebrating the New Year at the time, and we were a bit too lazy to have a big banquet.”
Lu Zheng was somewhat surprised by Sheng Yi's explanation.
He then smiled knowingly and took the candy from Zhu Qinghao's hand.
"Then I'll accept these wedding candies. It's a way for me to share in the newlyweds' joy. This is my gift. I wish the newlyweds a long and happy marriage!"
As she spoke, she handed Sheng Yi a dollar, then returned to the crowd to continue her work. Before leaving, she smiled and waved the candy in her hand at the two of them.
Sheng Yi and Zhu Qinghao exchanged a glance, waved to him, and then walked towards their respective carriages.
This time they booked a soft sleeper berth, and since it was still during the Spring Festival, there weren't many people who needed to travel around, so there were only the two of them in the compartment.
Sheng Yi put everything down, checked Zhu Qinghao's eyes again, and only after confirming that there was nothing seriously wrong did he breathe a sigh of relief and sit down on his bunk.
"I didn't expect to run into Officer Lu again so soon."
Zhu Qinghao nodded, and couldn't help but curl the corners of her lips as she thought of those things from back then.
"Yes, Officer Lu... he's a really nice guy."
Sheng Yi felt there was nothing to deny about this, and was about to nod in agreement when he heard a series of chaotic sounds coming from outside.
"Ah—murder! Murder!"
"Help! Help me!"
Screams from adults, cries from children, and calls from train staff trying to maintain order rang out simultaneously, creating chaos throughout the train.
Upon hearing the noise, Sheng Yi was about to open the door to check the situation, but as soon as he stood up, he thought of Zhu Qinghao.
He didn't want to take Zhu Qinghao with him into danger, but he also didn't want to leave her alone. What would he do if something happened to Zhu Qinghao after he left?
However, Zhu Qinghao was faster than him; she had already stood up when she noticed the conflicted look on Sheng Yi's face.
"Ah Yi, shall we go take a look together?"
