Chapter 57 Who is More Innocent (1/2)

Moreover, the other party clearly recognized her, so from the moment she entered, that focused and restrained gaze was fixed on her.

Zhu Qing looked at herself in her old lady's attire and frowned slightly.

Was my disguise really that bad? It seemed about the same back in Kyoto, so how come I was recognized so quickly here?

But she wasn't one to dwell on things. If she was recognized, she was recognized. After all, everyone was just there to browse the black market. Who was more innocent than whom?

With that thought in mind, she walked over to Sheng Yi, intending to say hello.

As they got closer, they discovered a large pile of wild boar and a roe deer at Sheng Yi's feet. It seemed they were selling them.

"Uh... Dr. Jiang, what a coincidence! You seem to have quite a few ways to make money."

Zhu Qinghao hesitated for a long time, but still called him Dr. Jiang like everyone else in the village.

When Sheng Yi heard this address, he felt something was off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on why. So he forced himself to ignore that slight oddity.

He then looked at Zhu Qinghao, a faint smile appearing in his obsidian-like eyes.

"It's quite a coincidence that you're here to greet me, Comrade Zhu Qing."

Then he looked at the prey on the ground and pried it with his hand.

"You mean this? We just happened to come across it. Anyway, my husband and I can't finish it all, so we brought it over to exchange for some money and coupons so it wouldn't spoil."

Zhu Qinghao didn't ask him why he didn't bring these things when he went into the city, nor did she ask him why he was afraid they would spoil since it was winter. She just nodded knowingly.

How would you like to replace these things? I want them. If possible, could I replace them all?

After speaking, she looked at Sheng Yi, waiting for his reply.

Looking at the face before him, which, though disguised, still couldn't hide its stunning beauty, and those bright, expectant eyes, Sheng Yi felt a momentary urge to lose control.

"Of course you can, but I've already left some for Grandpa Zhu and the others, and for you, so you probably don't need to buy any."

Hearing him say that, Zhu Qinghao was stunned for a moment. He even left some for herself and her family? Is that really so kind of him?

However, she didn't ask any more questions. She was only surprised for a moment before looking at Sheng Yi with certainty again.

"I want it. I promised a friend I would send her some local specialties when I left Beijing."

There aren't many other local specialties this season, so I'll just buy some of this. It'll be perfect for making some jerky or something, which I can send back to her later.

Sheng Yi knew that Zhu Qinghao had a fiancé, so when she heard her say that, she assumed that she was preparing to send the money back to her fiancé's family. Her originally good mood immediately dropped a lot.

"Oh, that's fine too. I'll give you all of them then. How about 80 cents a pound for wild boar? And 50 cents for roe deer meat?"

Zhu Qinghao had some understanding of meat prices. She could tell that Sheng Yi had given her a much better price. After all, meat that didn't require a ration coupon was usually twice as expensive as meat that required one from the supply and marketing cooperative.

When she got to Sheng Yi, it wasn't nearly that bad. Just as she was about to say something, she heard that clear voice coming from there.

"Wild boar meat isn't as plentiful as domestic pig meat, and it has more bones, so it's cheaper. Roe deer meat is tougher and not particularly tasty, so it doesn't fetch a high price."

Everyone else has explained it this way, so what else can Zhu Qinghao do? She has no choice but to comply.

"Okay, then let's do it this way. I'll take them all. I just don't know if Dr. Jiang has any way to help me transport them back without attracting too much attention?"

Sheng Yi smiled, his face beaming, making Zhu Qinghao's heart itch with desire.

Good heavens, I really want to rub it a couple of times.
